Flooring options.

So my manche didn't come with carpet or anything except for a drivers one size fits all rubber mat. I want something that I can take out and wash but also to protect and cover up all the ugly exposed floor pans. (I'm fully aware its a you can't have your cake and eat it to situation) What has worked for yall in your trucks

Vinyl floor was an option for our trucks if you want to try to find an OEM one.

I have the vinyl in my truck and actually prefer it to carpet.  When it gets dirty I just wash it down with a rag.  No muss no fuss!

Lots of XJ guys think the best solution to the floor pan being "waterproof" and easy to clean is to put truck bedliner on the floor.   If applied correctly, it certainly is very durable.  

 

Of course, the downside is that it makes the vehicle have no insulation against heat/cold on the floor, and no soundproofing.  That's OK for a trail rig, but if it's also a daily driver, it might get kinda old to hear all that road noise when traveling at any speed.

I do believe that ACC makes a plain vinyl flooring option.

I put sound deadening material in my MJ then sprayed bedliner over it, it's easy to clean and still helps keep heat and sound out of the cab.

There’s also spray-on sound deadening products that would work quite nicely under a bedliner.

I’ve got what I’m pretty sure is factory vinyl floor in my short bed. It still has the jute underneath it so it didn’t stop the floorboards from rusting out. Interestingly if I’m driving through puddles now I find it somehow accumulates puddle water on top of the vinyl. But I do for sure not care as much if a drink gets spilled... and they do because no cup holders.

yeah I Kinda like the vinyl though because if push comes to shove I can take it out. Idk

I don’t mind it either. Definitely prefer it in the work trucks, carpet cakes full of dirt pretty quick. There’s also no reason you can’t put it down over something more durable than paint, and it’s also possible to use something other than the jute that isn’t as bad a sponge if you still want the sound deadening.

I saw a great floor spray on Pirate done by USMCDOC14 using this, and adding extra crumb rubber and glass microspheres. Kind of the direction I am planning on going, then adding the vinyl floor mats over it. Coats and waterproofs, helps reduce road noise, then hide the ribs and parking brake cable.

This is just one product as an example, I’m sure there’s others out there. I’ve never used any so I can’t make recommendations as to what might be better, I just know they exist.

Every example of the factory vinyl flooring I've seen, even the very well preserved one in my 91, crumbled to dust the second you tried to remove it from the truck. That may or may not be due to the climate where I live. The factory carpets in these trucks fit very well, but you will probably have trouble finding one in good shape.

 

All aftermarket carpet/vinyl flooring for the MJ is made by a company called ACC, regardless of where you buy it from. Do not expect it to drop in. You will need to carefully cut it for anything that comes through the floor and trim the excess. To get it right for me took a couple days of off and on work, but I was and still am satisfied with the result.

 

The leaky nature of the MJ's cab combined with the way it's designed makes me cautious about applying anything directly to the floor without doing some homework first unless you want any floor rot you have to come back with a vengeance. I'd limit any application of sound deadening mats such as Dynamat to places where water can't pool. I'd also say to throw any jute padding away as it will turn into a moldy sponge if exposed to water. I don't have any opinion on those spray on coatings. Never driven around in a vehicle with it applied, and I've not used it myself.

 

My advice for dealing with any rust you have (and believe me, even if you don't see it, it's almost certain to be there), as always, is to get a spot weld drill set and go to town separating each layer of the floor so you can be sure that any rust is gone, properly prep both sides of the floor braces, apply *insert coating of choice here* to everywhere except the immediate welding area and plug weld it back together.

I used this in my truck. No carpet, no vinyl, no padding, nothing besides multiple coats of lizardskin. Works well for me. Been daily driving it like that for ~4 years. Its definitely not quiet, and some heat gets through to my legs in the summer. But overall it was worth it and I would do it again.

Heat and noise come through the factory carpet too... guess it just comes down to how much is tolerable.

yeah good point. I mean I drove it a good 20 miles home with nothing it wasn't quite by any stretch of the imagination but it was not to bad
