eaglescout526 Posted August 14, 2021 Author Posted August 14, 2021 This connector is cheese. Damn you non existent Pack-Cons!!
eaglescout526 Posted August 18, 2021 Author Posted August 18, 2021 New female connector is in with brand new terminals Plan to do the other one tonight and the placement of this connector is the worst, I can’t even test the terminals to make sure they all have power. Guess we will have trial by fire. The old connector melted at what looks like the headlamp power and fog lamp power wires.
eaglescout526 Posted August 19, 2021 Author Posted August 19, 2021 New male connector in and we have, drum roll please! FOG LAMPPPSSS! Woohoo! Male connector has been replaced and it was wayyy worse off than the other. Ignore the pan I need to put the screws back in the grill since I solved my problem.
eaglescout526 Posted August 19, 2021 Author Posted August 19, 2021 Now I just need a new bulb for the other lamp and we will have some Marchals.
Minuit Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 How is the light pattern of the Marchals? I've just realized that despite owning several of them I've never actually turned one on.

Indeed! 45 minutes ago, Minuit said: How is the light pattern of the Marchals? I've just realized that despite owning several of them I've never actually turned one on. Hmm. I don't know. I guess I didn’t pay enough attention with the excitement I had for the fog lamps working. I’ll have to take a look and see.
eaglescout526 Posted August 22, 2021 Author Posted August 22, 2021 So the Marchal 750's I have provide basically the same beam spread as the headlamps but a bit wider range.
eaglescout526 Posted September 1, 2021 Author Posted September 1, 2021 Still waiting on the NOS bulbs for the Marchals. While I’m waiting my girlfriend and I went up to Prescott for the weekend and we hit a junkyard on the way home yesterday. So I went in thanks to @88mjsally for the lead. The yard has 3 85 XJs and one 86. Two of which were 2.5Ls but I couldn’t get much from them due to lack of proper tools and the floor boards being covered in rodent $#!&. Which sucked. But I snagged what I could that was easy and I managed to get a full cluster of the older style. Now I’m doing a complete resto on it and so far so good. The contact sheet is in great shape! But I discovered this: There’s a blue film behind the gauges and I’m very intrigued by it. So far most the gauges work and I assume the lights do too. The cluster housing has the part number sticker and says made in USA on it which kinda faded away after washing away the layers of dirt on the cluster. I also managed to snag some turbine hub caps, remote control honey mirror bezels, honey visor mirror assembly and some other goodies as well. Hopefully this cluster pans out with the resto.
eaglescout526 Posted September 3, 2021 Author Posted September 3, 2021 Got the cluster assembled, havent test anything yet, gonna have to take the speedo out and match the miles on Chunk. Also took Chunk right to the corner to get half a tank of gas so I can start him up every once in a while. And yesterday I took a pic of both marchals assembled and hopefully aligned right. Now I need to start doing things. Ill have to update the homestead with the new look of the garage.
eaglescout526 Posted September 4, 2021 Author Posted September 4, 2021 Took a fun pic after organizing the garage last night.
MiNi Beast Posted September 4, 2021 Posted September 4, 2021 No work space, remove boxes or build bigger shop immediately 🤔

eaglescout526 Posted September 4, 2021 Author Posted September 4, 2021 Lol. My neighbors are a couple of old folk who come and go really fast so I rarely see them leave or come home. So they probably won’t mind the annex.
eaglescout526 Posted September 4, 2021 Author Posted September 4, 2021 Got the new cluster restored and tested and every gauge works as it should. Also installed a NOS tach. I’m gonna rebuild the old one and see if I can get 2 for 2 on rebuilds. Now I'm fighting with the speedo. 84-86 speedos are wayyyy different than the later ones I have taken the needle and face off to try to match the miles of the old speedo. We shall see if it works out.
eaglescout526 Posted September 5, 2021 Author Posted September 5, 2021 So Chunk was hiding away this gem on the cluster he came with when I got him No he was never a diesel engine. But this makes me think the PO found a cluster with this info center panel or bought a new one.
89 MJ Posted September 5, 2021 Posted September 5, 2021 I’d bet a diesel XJ or MJ guy would pay good money for that.
eaglescout526 Posted September 5, 2021 Author Posted September 5, 2021 Probably would bring in a decent buck. I also never paid attention to the oil pressure gauge until last night when I saw it said 60 in the middle and 120 for the high. I’m wondering what kind of Frankenstein cluster this is. I mean I’ll hang on to it unless someone needs it.
