Truck starts up, runs for 10 seconds, dies

... and yes ive tried the fuel ballast, fuel relay, and tps...

 

88, 4.0L, 5spd, 2wd - occasionally started, but has not been

driven in 10+ years. 135k

 

I can hear the pump prime (and i get a spray out of the valve

though i don't have a tester) but it sounds horrible. I'm trying 

to avoid dropping the tank, so I'm curious if anyone has any

ideas on what else it could be?

Check vacuum tubing.

Check MAP hose. Can you keep engine running with a spray can of starting fluid?

If you have to to remove the fuel pump, dropping the tank is not necessary.

The vacuum tubing is mostly new and i don't see any breaks or dangling lines.

 

I can keep the motor running a few seconds longer with starter fluid.

 

If i turn the key off and start it fires right up. If i leave the key in the on

position and try to start it again, it will not start.

If you give it gas, does it continue running? or does it die whether or not you give it gas?

Doesnt change the stall, but if i press the pedal down while

cranking, it will not start.

sounds like its priming, I would see if ecu is providing ground to fuel pump relay terminal 85 at relay and power at 86 ign.

The truck in question has 5 relays, theyre all hot when i turn the ignition

on...

fuel pump relay needs to be hot at 30 from fusible link most likely at starter relay and 86 from ign. 85 is grnd. from ecu, so you need b+ at two places, and  87 with relay powered up

Good chance the rubber hose inside the tank from the fuel pump to the pickup pipe is trash.

It looks original, feels original, but for the life of me i

What are you trying to call out?

 

I see at least two butt splices in that photo that definitely didn't come from the factory.

I'm not sure what you mean by "trying to call out."

 

There are splices and cuts all over this harness, but the relay

connections travel directly into the loom, the splicing is (mostly)

connected to the starter relay and some kind of jumper harness.

 

It rained today, but ill try to get better pics tomorrow...

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge?

Ive tried randomly swapping relays, but i havent had time to 

figure out which one is the fuel pump on the 5bank setup.
