dustyinthedirt Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 I am getting ready to build jack stands to set the truck on while I am doing the axle swap. Any ideas? 25” or better
Alexia Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 6 or 12 ton jack stands from Harbor Freight. The cradle grabs the frame nicely and I used them for my entire build.
dustyinthedirt Posted April 5, 2019 Author Posted April 5, 2019 I had thought about cribbing it up. My cousin owns a small mill and I had thought about solid 10” x 10” x 27” pieces with a notch in the top. I went and looked at harbor freight jackstands, they are not bad. $100 a piece is the only thing stopping me.
Pete M Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 100! holy moley they've gone up in price since I bought mine (but don't forget to add in a 20% off coupon!) edit: found some for under $50 each: https://www.ebay.com/itm/12-Ton-Heavy-Steel-Jack-Stands-2-Pack-24-000-lb-Weight-Capacity-By-Big-Red/173860317464?epid=1878913694&hash=item287ae1e918:g:ykIAAOSwBmJco4wL similar deals on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Torin-Big-Steel-Jack-Stands/dp/B0002H335A/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=12+ton+jack+stands&qid=1554467131&s=gateway&sr=8-3
MJXJjeepguy Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Craigslist or letgo for used in ur local? It just idea!
dustyinthedirt Posted April 5, 2019 Author Posted April 5, 2019 I ended up finding a 30% off coupon from harbor freight ant got the 12 ton stands. They will let you use the coupon more then once so I made two purchases of the stands and got 60% off... sorta
Me&my86MJ Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 I just got email coupons for harbor freight 34.99 for 6 tons jack stands(pair) but max height is only 23 3/4 inches. So those might not be the solution for you.
Jeep Driver Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Check around construction sites, you will find LVL drops. Couple of pieces say 16x16 stacked will gain you another 3+ inches. LVL material is more than acceptable for cribbing/dunnage/padding under a well made jack stand.
dustyinthedirt Posted April 6, 2019 Author Posted April 6, 2019 Thanks for the ideas I always forget about construction sites just throwing that stuff away. the Pittsburg stands are pretty nice from harbor freight. The truck feels really secure and I was kinda rough with the axle removale
Nashmanche Posted April 6, 2019 Posted April 6, 2019 Just for future reference, here are some 6 ton, double locking stands from Northern Tool. A pair shipped to your door for $58.00. Max height is just under 25 inches. https://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200717287_200717287

Yeah, I bought a pair some months back to work on my Tundra and they seem well made and had pretty good reviews. I like the double locking pin for added safety, or at least I feel safer when under the truck. I plan on buying a couple more pairs to work on the Comanche.
JMO413 Posted April 6, 2019 Posted April 6, 2019 I have two pair of AcDelco 6 ton I bought from O'Reilly's. I believe they were about $60. They are about 24" or so.
1989commanche Posted April 13, 2019 Posted April 13, 2019 I have 4 of these big red ones. Pipe jacks for welding pipe. They go from about 24” up to about 3 feet. The nice thing about them is the screw jack end makes them very adjustable. Especially when you are trying to level something out. I also have 3 pair of the hf style 6 ton jack stands. They get the most use.
dustyinthedirt Posted April 13, 2019 Author Posted April 13, 2019 I’ve learned that jack stands are like clamps. You can’t have to many

I have 4 small, 6 6 ton normal jack stands, and 6 pipe jacks at least. don't get me started on clamps and magnets. But I’ve been collecting them for over 40 years. You never complain that you have too many but I hate being short.
