Well today I experience something new. I received a call from my fiancé saying that her car was really loud and smell like exhaust inside and so what popped into my head first was the muffler or catalytic converter had a leak. She had been working from 7 to 4 at the hospital and during that time somebody was in the employee parking lot and cut her Catalytic converter out from under her car. That was the second one reported today at the hospital. So we called security and a police report hoping to find these people who are scrapping catalytic converter's for the platinum. I Couldn't believe it.

The same people were stealing manhole covers and copper from empty houses when scrap prices were high.  No real surprise here, some people will just take what ever they can convert quickly to what they need at the moment.

Started to say druggies, but I'm not sure they would understand how much a CC was worth or be willing to work that hard for their next fix.

Still don't know why people will work hard to steal something but not just get a job.

TWEAKERS! They can't pass a drug test or hold down a real job.

Wow, I would think high clearance vehicles would be more suceptible to this kind of thing but OP's vehicle sits pretty darn low. Doubt it's some random tweaker, these thiefs had hacksaws AND jacks.

Can't believe people are still stealing them. Scrap is low and most places take a picture of you and have to put down where it came from

Perhaps I am jaded by my personal observations, and my location: My personal opinion is that tweakers are clever enough to get the greatest yield for the time invested, to get their next high. All other "needs" come in second.

If that pessimism offends you, I apologize.

It depends. Many of the tweakers know the difference between a cat with cheap grid catalyst that aren't worth much and the more expensive ones. I cleaned out my garage and took all the cores to the buyer, he sorted through the cats by price everything else was just x number of these. Funniest part to me was that a stock AMC cat from a FSJ was worth $95, baby Jeep cats were $25 at the time.

Mr. Coors lives in your location, and that's all good.

We moved here after living in a "not so nice" area.

Lord, I've lived in some sketchy places before, but I've never had to feel worried that my exhaust is going to get stolen. I feel for you man.

Although if thieves want my catalytic converter, I won't cry over it. Damn thing has enough platinum chips rolling around as it is.
