Short Conversation with a Comanche seller on CL

He posted a single pic on the Albuquerque CL.  I asked if he had anymore pics he could send and he sends me a few.  I thanked him, and since he didn't include an engine bay shot or a clear interior shot, asked if the truck had AC.

Him:  I don't think any comanches came with a/c

Me:  Actually quite a few did.  I've been looking for the "right one" for a while now.  Only a hand full I've looked at don't have it, or do have it but it doesn't work, LOL

Him:  Well I have tons of friends with them n kno alot of guys with them from jeep meets n non did...  Thanx for your time.

I guess that means, he's done talking with me, LOL  By how easily he seemed to get defensive when I responded with my AC comment, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say he is probably pretty young.  I don't know, was there "tone" in my response?

Oh, and why do some sellers leave all sorts of crap in the interior when they take their pics?  Do people really want to sell?

Sometimes people are just dicks on CL for no reason. I used to work with a guy who tried to buy stuff off of there all the time and he would NEVER offer them close to what they were asking and then when they wouldnt take his offer he would be a smartass and say well since you won't take my bid i hope you  enjoy trading it for some crap on here.

People i have delt with are usually already defensive when you text them. and sounds to me like the seller was kinda young and didnt know as much as he thought. I'm sure we all have had a moment when we got defensive when somebody told us we were wrong. And we got a little pissy about it haha

Maybe the LOL pissed him off...

But yes he is done talking to you lol

Honestly theres lot of guys that do know jeeps and some blabber to know jeeps...

Some are actually willing to learn but he is closed minded obviously...maybe his model is a factory no a/c model

As far as the interior pics go...some just expect the interior to be clean with stuff in it or still currently daily driving it...

Or just too lazy to do a decent job to make a sell...

By the way he "talked" and by the BS he's got ingrained into his head, I can only assume you've encountered the relatively common moronicus maximus in its home territory. Members of this species are known for poorly maintaining vehicles, communicating in a nigh indecipherable language known as "txt-speek" and holding on to incorrect information despite being corrected, bcuz he has tuns of frends and nun have ac on there commanchies. It is strongly recommended you back away slowly from members of this species as some specimens can be quick to anger.

I see 4 Comanche trucks on Albq. CL right now.  Which ad was it?     Bet it was this one just from the tone of the ad:

http://albuquerque.craigslist.org/cto/5695943053.html

You must have been wasting his time to say that  "You are looking for the right one",  Clearly he figured his was not the "right one", since his did not have A/C.

BTW, lots of Comanche trucks came with Air - mine included and it was a base truck with a bench seat and rubber floors.

Yeah, he figured you were going to be like 90% of CL buyers, ask a bunch of random things and then say "I'll think about it" and never reply again, or "I'll meet you at ...." and not show up and never reply again.

Edit, reason I got my XJ for $100 was because I realized the guy was sick of regular CL buyers that don't show up.  Let's just say he had a bad attitude about everything to do with trying to sell it.  Once I clued into that I just said "I have a car trailer and I will bring it with me when I come to look at it.  Does it work if I'm there in an hour?"  Suddenly he got real nice. :rotfl2:

I've never seen an MJ without AC in person. Working AC? That's a different story. But set up for AC none-the-less.

Mine doesn't have AC. It is a Canadian truck though. Also came with a block warmer.

My '88 came without, my '90 came with. Removed it from the '90 to simplify the mess under the hood, it wasnt working anyway. Swapped in all non AC parts, including HVAC box. The only way you can tell it had it is by the drain hole still being open in the firewall.

All the ones I've had 'up here' were without A/C.  But I've seen a couple with it.  Definitely much rarer in Canada.

Around here a majority of MJs I come across and 99% of XJs have A/C, but it's practically a requirement for half the year around here. 94*F feels like 100 today and that's not particularly out of the ordinary recently.

I agree in texas it is a requirement for a/c. So since I bought a mj from canada with no a/c, I have two choices....... move to Canada and leave the truck how it is, or install A/C into it. I'm leaning towards the moving to Canada option.

Yeah, it probably is easier to just drive the truck back up here with all your worldly possessions in the back. :rotf:

Funny thing is I'm having a hard time finding a Renix anything without A/C to steal the delete idler off of for my ugly XJ.  Seems like everything that is Renix and base model enough to not have A/C has long been crushed out, save for the MJ in my driveway (and I can't steal that one).

Mine has factory A/C... and it works a treat. Pretty sure it still has R12 in it too. I bought a friend a DQ ice cream cake not long ago, and it's a 100km drive to the nearest DQ so I cranked the a/c all the way up for the drive there and back. Fortunately I thought ahead and brought my winter jacket... Got some weird looks getting out into the 30 degree heat, but the cake did not melt.

Back on topic though, last fall when I was trying to part out my donor XJ, despite the fact I included the axle specs in the ad and also "front axle not for sale" (plan is to rebuild eventually for the MJ), someone contacted me wanting the XJ front d44. I got the worst piece of language back from him after I told him such a thing didn't exist, cause he knew they did and I was hiding it from him.

  • 3 weeks later...

My 88 Pioneer long bed has no AC. The idler is just a casting to duplicate the compressor , with an idler. Great place to put an air compressor or a 200A alternator for charging a camper battery.

If you just want to ditch AC,  leave the old compressor there.

Or relocate the existing alternator to the Compressor location, and get it out of it's low, easy to submerge and jam with mud location, and put it way up high in the engine bay.
