sr20det swap

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. So I did a burnout and I think I blew up the diff. Obviously time for a motor swap right?

I've already purchased an sr20det, tranny and ecu. It's about 90 percent complete. My buddy and I were building it from the block up for his d21 so I know it's done right and should run.

I plan to turn it into a track truck. 4wd to 2wd conversion lol. If anyone wants to swap front ends let me know! Located in ohio.

Does anyone know the weight distribution of a jeep comanche? 86 2.8 4x4 5 speed. Also has anybody ever heard of this swap actually being done? I've seen the rat rod style one. Lol

Not sure what a blown rear has to do with a engine swap, whatever.

It was a joke lol. Honestly though at first I thought I @#$%ed the transmission then I thought it was the clutch. Now I'm thinking diff. I bought the motor when I thought I was going to have to remove the transmission. I figured if it's coming g out better is going in. Lol. Out with the old in with the new.

Dude, 99% of us have no idea what that is and 0% interest in finding out,to be blunt. All I am picturing is a giant ricer wing stolen off of a civic and mounted on the roof while a fart can the size of a 2-liter bottle hangs under the rear bumper. There is like zero flat-biller interest here. Just say in'.

If that's the first though that comes to your head then your clearly an idiot. Not worried about if yall know what it is wanted to know about the weight distribution. Thanks for your contribution.

why not get some scales if your into track racing or maybe know some one that has some... as far as the other guy goes, didn't have to be so blunt, but it would of been nice if you told us all what the motor for and all that info.. I am all up for swaps and new idea, would be a neat thread to follow

Calling people idiots isn't going to get you very far in this forum. But just to give you the benefit of the doubt, in the 7 Years I've been on this forum I've never seen any talk of weight distribution. Its not an issue for wheelin or daily driver use. But if its like most pickups' it's biased toward the front for load carrying ability.

The SR20DET is a SICK mill! I don't think I can be of much help as far as specs go, but I'm very interested in seeing how this turns out. As far as front end swaps, go to your nearest pick and pulls and grab you a beam off of a WJ. Look for the ones with Akebono calipers. Free twin piston brake upgrade!

I'm not following lol. What do you mean get some scales? Are there literal scales I can buy? Lol. Or can a t r ask have the scale I need? I'm new to the track scene.

Maybe I should have been a little more clear. Lol. My bad dude.

The sr20det is 2.0l motor with a garret t25 turbo o attached to it. It came out of a nissan s14 or 240sx in America.it made about 200 hp and tq from the factory.

I'm shooting for 300 horse this summer. Yall have any questions let me know.

P.s. thanks for your guys help. Will look into wj front ends.

I thought I'd already posted this, but I guess my phone failed, so I'll post it again.

A couple years back, I rolled my '91 lwb 4.0 aw4 4x4 across a scale, and IIRC I had 1100kg on the front axle and 700kg on the rear. Including myself, I probably had 300 to 350 lbs in the cab, and then maybe another 100 lbs in the bed, up against the back of the cab. Likely around a half-tank of fuel. I'm a little foggy on those numbers, and even for a truck, that seems pretty nose-heavy to me, so you might want to double check. Around where I live, there are lots of unmanned scales scattered around the highways, presumably for farmers, etc, to use. Surely there's something similar you can find where you live? You could also try to find a set of wheel scales. If you're really getting into track racing, you'll find they're very useful for setting your crossweights, in addition to finding centres of mass, etc. You may even be able to borrow someone else's if you ask nicely. Any serious racer with their own shop will have a set.

So far as this swap is concerned, yes, you're getting into uncharted territory. There are far easier ways of putting 300 hp into an MJ, although given you've got a 2.8, it makes it harder for you to just drop in a stroker. I say ignore the grumpy old men (man?) on here. It's your truck, do what you want with it. This motor frankly makes as much sense as any other... and hey, you've already got it.

You can get an axle out of any 2wd MJ or XJ.....with all the upgrades to 4x4 on this site someone should have one out there.

A load scale like mentioned above might give you a rough idea but if you want to dial it in you need to find your local dirt track and talk to some of the guys running super stock or open wheeled modified. They will have a set of scales (one goes under each wheel) that will allow you to dial it is right were you want it.

While you are there take a look at the suspension set ups and ask some questions on how they set up the cars......some guys come up with some very unique ways of tuning the suspensions so that you get the power to the track were you want it.

You can also talk to any good drag racer for scales. There are ways to do it using bathroom scales and wood. I'll let you google that. You don't want to start messing with weight distribution until your truck is almost ready for the track. Depending on which series you are running will dictate how you set the truck up. Your cage, battery, fuel tank and motor placement will all effect the weight bias.

A WJ axle is not a bolt in. The control arm mounts are in different locations and will not work without modifying either the truck or the axle. You're better off just swapping a beam from a 2WD X/MJ in there and then doing the WJ knuckle swap for the bigger brakes.

Most sanctioning bodies will not allow any type of wheel spacer on the track. DON'T USE THEM! They are not designed for the side loads a track can induce and will shear off.
