Who has classic or Antique plates on their MJ

I decided to apply for mine this week since I do not drive it much and never in the winter. Was wondering who else has them?

I have them on my '88 XJ and I'll be converting at least one of the MJs to them in the near future.

have em on ny project truck. Couldn't pass emissions and I don't drive it often and It never has to be renewed here in TN. No brainer. Picked up a 88 plate off eBay, here u have to use the year before the model year of you use a custom plate.

North Carolina are money-hungry thieves.  Vehicles have to 35 years old or older to qualify and you still have to have be registered.

There sure are, in PA classic is 15 years and a one time fee of $75.00 plus $50.00 for the title fee and then never again. It does have to be inspected each year still. All of PA fees are going to double next year from what I have been told thats what started me switching insurance is WAY cheaper also.

That's the way it is here in TN.

 

I was told at the DMV that if I'm caught using the truck for 'daily' activities it will be the officer's discretion to cite me.

 

Also, if insured as antique and used for any other purpose, insurance will reject claim.

if in the state of colorado for me to get collector/classic/antique plates I would. The .gov stopped the 25yr old rolling timeline around 5+ years ago, I can only get those plates if I have a '75 and older vehicle.

I'm in TN as well and I'm planning to finally register my truck on Friday and was debating this same thing. It's an '89 which puts at 25 years old but, unless I'm misremembering, I believe I saw the build date on the door sticker as late 1988. Do you reckon they'd let that pass as being 'more than 25 years old? Also, are you saying I don't have to pass emissions if I register it as antique?

I'll have my "QQ" plates next year. I'm taking it through its last inspection ever this month, hopefully it passes. With all the new and refurbished stuff on it, my Jeep is getting younger by the day.

Going to be getting "Historic" plates for my 92MJ next week.

 

Vehicles need to be 20+ years old and it gets you exempt from MDs strict emissions/safety inspections.  Still need to pay for two-year registration, but the cost is cut from $135 to $51.  The rules for a historic vehicle are as follows:

 

A vehicle registered as historic cannot be used for general daily transportation, or primarily for the transportation of passengers or property on highways.  It can only be used in exhibitions, club activities, parades, tours, occasional transportation and similar uses.

 

 Where I live it's pretty common for daily drivers to be tagged historic.  Don't think I've ever seen or heard of anyone getting pulled over for it, but I suppose if the 5-0 decided they needed some revenue, they could enforce the law...

Antique Vehicle License Plates are issued for a five year registration period expiring Dec. 31, 2014. To qualify for Antique Plates, motor vehicles, including motorcycles, must be more than 25 years old. Firefighting vehicles must be at least 20 years old.

 

Vehicles displaying these plates may only be driven to and from an antique auto show or exhibition, service station or demonstration. The mechanical and physical condition of the vehicle, including brakes, lights, glass and appearance, must be the same or as safe as originally equipped. An antique vehicle may be a "bona fide replica" - an exact copy of the original in design, frame and mechanical operation. "Facsimiles" - close, but not exact, reproductions of the original - do not qualify for Antique Vehicle plates.

 

Vanity Antique License Plates

• First-time issuance in 2010 - $124 ($30 Antique Vehicle license plates fee + $94 Vanity fee)
• Current plates expire in December 31, 2009 - $153 ($30 Antique Vehicle license plates fee + $94 Vanity Fee + $29 replacement fee)
• Current plates valid until December 31, 2014 - $123 ($94 Vanity Fee + $29 replacement fee)
• Current non-antique plates expire within 1 year - $153 ($30 Antique Vehicle license plates fee + $94 Vanity Fee + $29 replacement fee)
• Renewal Fee - $43 ($30 Antique Vehicle license plates fee + $13 Vanity fee)
• Newly purchased vehicles will have a $95 title fee

Ive had Classic tags on Walker for a few years now.

I've had historical vehicle plates on my trail rig since 2012. Normaly pickup truck plates are ~$55/year. These plates cost me $27 and don't have to be renewed until 2050.

In NJ vehicle must be 25 years or older to qualify for the QQ tags. One time fee ( was it 75.00?) and no more state inspection. You are restricted in terms of use for other than parades, club meetings, car shows, cruises etc. I have on only one of my 86 Comanche Custom. That one gets shown a lot. May apply for the diesel soon.

Pa is 75.00 plus 50.00 for the title fee both one time never again limited to shows parades etc and one day a week can't haul with it. I know other people who have them on  trucks and haul sometimes.  Mine never leaves the garage 5-6 months out of the year since restoration.
