Time Capsule

It's that time again. The time of year where I have some time off from work. In the past, I used to fill this time with fun things like throwing large amounts of time at cool projects and pounding them out quickly. For the last couple years, it has been filled with house work... this year keeps the theme going. While it's nowhere near as much work as last year's renovation that included a larger garage, this year's project is just about as important! This year I'm being required to hook up to city sewer.

So today was all kinds of fun. Next week is the start of the digging outside so that means I need to make room in the basement for the new plumbing. Just like any other project, there's a few things that I'm doing in the basement... while I'm in there. Going to stub in for a bathroom, and I'm doing drain tile along the back wall. It all starts with this:

Which leads me to my question for everyone. I'm one that likes to find things hidden away like treasures that were intentionally placed there. It's kind of lame, but anytime I start into a project like this, I like the idea of stumbling on something that was put under a floor or stuffed in a wall. Today was no different. With ever scoop of the shovel and every smack of the hammer, I was just waiting to find something... anything!... under the floor. Hmm... no dice.

Being that the floor is open, I think it's the perfect time to make up a time capsule! So? What should I put in there? Or, if you had the opportunity, what would you put in one?

LOL the opportunity here... set it up so when the Time Capsule is 'discovered', the discoverer will think they stumbled on to something they shouldn't have inside of it [.50 cal ammo can containing a picture of random woman with a big X over the pic (or torn in half), bag of ashes (from a campfire for example), angry notes [b**** had it coming! style], a house key you don't use (a screwed up duplicate key from a hardware shop will work), an old chef knife, a few used shotgun shells, half roll of duct tape, a broken/smashed cell phone, etc.]. That should get minds going when it is discovered and make the local news 20 or 30 years from now... only to be a cleverly pulled off hoax.

Me too, except for one addition: Obama and his wife.

I second that!

haha,

How about some newspapers or magazines with milestone headlines, baseball cards, coins, love letters (cheesy but they mean a lot 40-50 years from now), freeze dried or canned food like spam or sardines - just to see if its still good when opened up later, and of course a singing frog like on the bugs bunny show that was put in a corner stone.  Youngins probably won't remember this...

:agree:

Time capsules are supposed to keep treasures from the past, to educate the future. You guys are thinking of a coffin. Bury it once and forget about it after a generation.

I :agree: But...it would be education for the future...on who NOT to elect!

Let's make that a bottom line of legal u.s. citizens actually being a requirement, rather than becoming optional.
