I was bored, and searching for information on the actual comanche tribes, and i have a few small recommendations. I don't necissarily think these changes will happen, but i figured it was worth a shot. Baisically the changes are just terms we use, and why not try to use some actual comanche terms, could be fun right?

1. change "the pub" to "the smoke lodge"

"Old men who no longer went on the war path had a special tipi called the Smoke Lodge, where they gathered each day. A man typically joined when he became more interested in the past than the future." If you consider all the research, part finding/selling, jeep mods, and offroading as being the "warpath" of a comanche jeeper, then the smoke lodge would be the place to debate other things... (ie the purpose of our pub)

2. refer to moderators as "council members"

"Comanche groups did not have a single acknowledged leader. Instead, a small number of generally recognized leaders acted as counsel and advisors to the group as a whole." seems like the role of our form moderators.

3. "Wheeling and other trips" would seem more bad @$$ if referred to as "the war path"

Just an idea, if u can think of other appropriate terms for our forum feel free to post them here. These changes will in no way affect how jeepers use the forum, it would only change our sense of community and moral.

Hmmmmm......... :smart: As being an enrolled Northern Cheyenne, our tribe went threw something similar many years ago with the Chevy Cheyenne package. We got over it. Actually I think it's a little Korney ,but WTH.I'd suggest a few small changes

like moderators should be "chiefs", and a get together is a "pow- wow".Only thing that I feel is a little touchy about is the "smoke lodge" thing. too many people have misconceptions about our native spirituality, mainly about smoking (P....E) in our sweat lodges, we don't do that. we don't smoke (P....E)in any kind of lodge, ever! How about council lodge or something like that.Actually I like it, with a few small changes it would be great! Matter of fact,if anybody runs across any of those Cheyenne badges I'd be interested in making a deal for them.

Or forget everything I've said, as my Indian name means "White Magpie", not "Stick in the mud" :rotf: LOL

Well, maybe you Cheyennes don't smoke "that stuff whose name begins with 'P'," but there are sects within some of the southwestern tribes that do. "That stuff" is specifically exempted from Federal and state drug laws when used for ceremonial purposes for a reason.

The notion that there is ONE flavor of "Native American spirituality" when there are (or were) something like 385 distinct tribal groups in the continental United States alone is sort of silly.

I think that was some great out of the box thinking I've seen in a long time.. I think its pretty cool.. I wouldnt be offended at all. I have some Cherokee blood in me, not enough to even matter though..

And about the spiritual drug thing.. I good friend of mine in the Army was from the Navajo tribe, she had a card that let her use Peyote for Religious purposes...

Pretty cool the stories she and another guy, (also Navajo) had about witch doctors and shape-shifters.. Very cool and interesting to me.

I think its a neat idea, and I don't find it at all offensive. Why would it be offensive to use historical terms on forum about a truck with a historical Indian name? I think its actually giving props to the Comanche Nation for us to do a little research about their culture and encorporate some of it into this board.

On another note, does anyone find it really really odd that Jeep named a trim package on the Comanche after the Pioneers? Weren't those two groups rather unfriendly towards each other? Chief I get, but Pioneer????

Comanches were the greatest fighting horseman in N. America, and their heritage and history is amazing. Not always peaceful,,,,there's a reason most of the early and major settlements in TX were limited to the SE side of the Balcones Escarpment, its because the Comanches owned the hill country and beyond. Draw a line from Dallas down to Waco through Austin to San Antonio.

My great great grandmother was a Comanche, she died of a nose bleed in an horse drawn wagon. My Grandfather was really the last with obvious Indian features, and I'm just an American mutt. I was invited to join the nation, but declined, not sure if I'm Comanche enough??? I am a little thankful for some of the residual features though, I should die with a head full of hair. jamminz.gif Thus the logon name - my parents and most of the kin folk still live in Comanche County, TX around Proctor, Dublin, Deleon and Comanche, TX.

Bottom Line: There's never been another truck worthy of the name!

It's a cute idea, but is it a bit too cutesy? :dunno:

What?! You don't think we should rename the site Comancheria (Home territory of the Comanche from early 1700's to mid 1800's)?

Me neither, I voted: No, I like our forum the way it is.
