My MJ will never be wheeled in the sense that most of us usually do, my reasons for this being 1. it's my DD and something that has been in the family since the showroom, 2. it's the only surviving one like it in the world to my knowledge, and 3. the general condition of everything is very good. If I ever want to thrash something I'll get an XJ.

Wait! If it sounds anything like a rod knock, check your flexplate-torque converter bolts first. There is an inspection cover at the front of the transmission. Under that is the engine's flexplate which is held to the torque converter by several bolts. These have a habit of backing out over the years and making a sound very much like a bottom end knock. Turn the engine by hand and tighten these, and you may just save yourself a lot of heartache. If you need pics, I can get some for you later today. Beautiful truck, by the way.

I got pretty lucky with the lighting for these: I like taking pictures

You're right. There is a plastic piece going across the top of that space under the window. The OEM jack is in the driver's side rear corner of the cab by the speaker mount. If it's not clear I can supply pics tomorrow.

Original/aftermarket Mud Flaps

:thwak: -
Mine's quite young. 148,803 as of this evening, at least 75% of that highway miles. Hoping to at least double that.

That's an awful lot of stupid packed into one little video.

Installed my headliner and visors this weekend and it looks fantastic. Very happy with the service and product.

Dunno if this is what you're talking about, but a lot of the time the forum won't make my post unless I use the 'more reply options' page.

That reminds me... does anyone know if it's possible to fit a full size spare under the bed where the factory spare is?

'89 Underdash Electrical Problems...stumped
Minuit replied to CRF136N's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The dash electronics (on my 91, at least) are grounded by a little tab attached to the metal part of the upper dash panel. Is that the one you checked? If not, that's where I would start. The leaky master cylinder is a major issue that you should solve before it leads to bigger problems, and it might even be the cause of the gremlins you speak of. -
 About time someone set some people straight.

These Accident Recreation Guys Really Hate Jeeps...
Minuit replied to Automan2164's topic in The Pub
I knew old minivans were deathtraps, but dang. -
Fix things right. You don't want your axle coming apart on the highway causing you even more grief and work, do you?

I just went outside and I learned something... that's unusual. The biggest source of passenger side water (I've identified the drivers side leak as being the junction block grommet) looks like a screw hole on the lower 'dash' that had a long 8mm bolt in it. I've stuck a pipecleaner up there and I can't get it all the way in but it came out pretty dirty. Here's a horribly low quality phone picture of what I'm talking about. The hole in question is close to the middle of the pic on the black box. Would I be correct in assuming this has to do with a drain system of sorts?

Can I Tell If My Cat. Converter Is Good By Sight??
Minuit replied to ParadiseMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I don't really imagine you can tell much from looking at the outside (unless something really major happened to it.) Unless your performance starts to drop off because it's restricting exhaust flow I wouldn't worry about it. -
While I have my interior stripped, I'm working on fixing the water leaks that caused my floorboard rust. It turns out that my MJ is leaking like a sieve into both the driver and passenger side floor wells, obviously not ideal. I'm figuring it's leaking from at least two places: 1. The driver's side leak I've pinpointed to the area around the hood release cable and where the wiring harness plugs into the fuse box. I haven't been able to find the exact source of this leak. 2. The passenger's side seems to me like it's coming through the cowl area (where the wiper blades are.) but several tests have shown that it doesn't matter exactly where I spray from. I've tried clearing the only thing that looks like a drain hose I can find (a small piece of rubber pipe by the blower motor) with no results. I've also heard that this leak can be caused by worn seals in the A/C system, but everything I have read has to do with 97+ XJs. It's definitely not coolant but that is the area that I would associate with a dead heater core. I've checked and I'm pretty sure the windshield is not the problem with either of these leaks. Any advice? I don't need the truck drivable for the next month or so so throwing a quick fix together isn't a priority. Thanks for any help as usual!

Yeah I certainly wouldn't want to stress that truck too badly lest it fold in half. I doubt the guy realized that, though considering his record.

Definitely not in the case of someone cutting up a perfectly straight and untouched MJ cab. Now if it's been damaged like in Dirteatr's case, I think it would be perfectly justified and very cool.

Great idea.

Driveway Ornament To Daily Driver: 7 Years!
Minuit replied to Minuit's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Made some progress today! I didn't get as much done as I wanted to today, but that's alright. I typically quit fairly early in the day before it gets too hot to work comfortably (the high today is 90 degrees) I did the first sanding pass on the floors today. This is how the passenger side looks after about half an hour of work with a grinder. Obviously, I'm not finished. I'll probably finish this side tomorrow. And the driver's side. This is going to take a lot more work to get right, but none of the rust looks terminal so far. After I got the rest of the interior apart, Dad pushed the big dents behind the doors out.
