Have you looked at the instrument cluster ground under the dash? -

Quick question: does anyone know what oil pressure level the idiot light turns on and off at? '91 4.0 with the basic idiot light cluster.

Driveway Ornament To Daily Driver: 7 Years!
Minuit replied to Minuit's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
 It ran last night! More details later. I pulled a very long night last night and got it back together enough to run. I could only run it for a short period at a time because the serpentine belt was off, but it ran! The only oil leak was at the very rear corner of the oil pan - that bolt was looser than the others. I have not run it since but we could very well be driving it next weekend. The RMS area and the chip in the block was completely dry after about a minute in a half total of running. Here's a list of parts that have been installed since it's been parked: 28mm front sway bar with new endlinks and bushings Passenger side window regulator Passenger side door glass (don't ask) Rear main seal Front main seal and timing cover gasket Timing set Valve cover gasket Oil pan and gasket Oil pump (standard volume) Water pump Thermostat and gasket All coolant hoses Heater control valve eliminated All door weatherstripping XJ style side mirrors with remote manual control Laredo interior door panels ..and I'm probably forgetting some. Needless to say I have a lot of updating to do. The semester is coming to an end and finals are 2 weeks from now so there will probably not be any serious updates until the second week of May. But it's alive again! -
Weekdays: go to class work study work work work study more work go to class work study study take exam go home. Sleep not required Weekend: Fix truck and/or daily driver, sleep enough to last me the rest of the week. Repeat. :D

If he's not sure he's going to sell, why the hell does he have an ad on craigslist? I think this one's even more into "cut up chopped up POS" territory - and it has a D30 front end on 37s? That seems like it's pushing it a little bit to me. EDIT: I stand corrected. Even though it's ugly, according to the members below it's built with high quality parts including the front axle shafts. To answer an earlier question you had - the 4.0 is indeed the AMC inline six. 1987-1990 and 1991-1992 had a few differences, but both are bulletproof. The drivetrains on these things as a whole are pretty much unkillable.
-
Understandable. Its only function is to turn on a warning light, so you won't hurt anything by taking it out.
-
Since they called it a Cherokee in the ad, I'd wonder what other areas their attention to detail is lacking in. Like the lift. Although I'm ALWAYS wary of previous owner modifications. Not worth 9k even in the seller's most fantastic dreams. I always get a chuckle out of people saying "I've got 13k in it, it's a steal at this price!"

MJ emblems. decals and stuff for the '89 project

JeepstickER.com - no s at the end. -
It either has a new/remanufactured motor or one from a junkyard(probably a new/reman). In either case if it drives ok and sounds ok it wouldn't be anything I would be worried about. What year is it?
-
Now this is interesting.
-
So, the MJ is about an afternoon from being roadworthy, if all goes well. However, it turns out that a friend of mine accidentally broke the plastic heater control valve in the process of helping me replace heater hoses. Should I bother to replace it or just bypass it, and if I do bypass it, will it make any real difference?

If there aren't any cracks or other damage, wetsand and clearcoat your tail lights. If you do a good job they'll look great for 10% or less of the cost of these.

How does this main bearing look?
Minuit replied to Minuit's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That's why he had that cap off to begin with. I think he is just buttoning it up again. "Oh, it'll all be apart to fix the oil pan anyway. Might as well do the RMS while I'm in there! It should only take an extra couple of hours!" - Said on January 14th, 2015. -

Nothing's set in stone. I may very well do that. I was kind of wanting the stroker to be built from the original engine (for the sake of "originality" if that makes any sense) but building a used motor on the side is a perfectly valid option too. -

I'm with you there - I'm thinking it should be fine since everything that's missing is "behind" the RMS. My wallet and my schedule both hope so too. My original plan was to take it off the road at 200,000 miles (at the rate I'm driving it, it will be many years) and build the original engine into a 4.6 stroker. That may or may not still happen. If the block does turn out to be screwed, I'll probably try to find a low miles engine to run for a while then rebuild. -
Making The Thunderbird Great Again
Minuit replied to Minuit's topic in Member Projects: Other Cool Stuff
Ever since I put new shocks on it's been riding and driving like a dream. Haven't had a chance to do any other fixes yet (and likely won't for some time - The MJ is getting all my attention this weekend). I did notice a big puff of blue smoke on start-up one time, but I haven't noticed it doing it since. Valve stem seals, maybe? I almost feel like I'm neglecting the thing. It's due for an oil change already and it needs several other things fixed, but I just don't have the time with my schedule. -
Hey, quick question. There's a definite possibility that my truck will be drivable again this weekend. I very much want to drive it, but I wanted to know (just at a glance) how the #7 main bearing looks. I know that one bearing isn't a big sample size, but what conclusions can you guys draw? This is of course my '91 engine with 156k. It ran perfectly fine when parked with no bad noises of any description. I didn't notice any pits, but that scratch in the lower bearing has me worried.

This is the damaged area. Believe me when I say I really don't want to put an engine in it - and the more I look at it the more I think it may be ok. The only way to know for sure will be to put it back together and see how it does, which I want to do this weekend. Here is the #7 main bearing. -
No, it clearly says on the side of the vehicle it's a Commanche. It even has the inline v6 in it, too. that hurt to type
