  1. This one has been for sale for about half a year now, can't understand why no one wants to buy it? :dunno: Image Not Found
  2. Go for it, you won't regret it. Well, maybe in the middle of the swap, but not when youre done! And the amc20 is supposed to be equal to or slightly stronger than the famous d44 from what i have heard.
  3. I have a rusty and beaten up 86 MJ with the 2.1L renault turbodiesel, and my parents have a 00 XJ with the 2.5L VM motori turbodiesel. Here are some short facts (just what i remeber out of my head..) and my own personal opnions about them. 2.1 renault: Offered form the start off untill 94 (in europe). Good old fashion mechanic prechamber injection with turbo and intercooler, puts out some 86ish hp and i don't remeber how much torque. Since my MJ is without a title (PO said this truck should NEVER see the road again and refused to fill out the papers..) i have only used it as a trailbeater and can't tell you how it performes on the road. But I must say I'm very impressed with this engine, it can take some serious abuse and is very fun to wheel with. They are easy to tweak a little bit to get that extra grunt (and some black smoke..) and when you do that it doesnt feel so poor compared to a 4.0L. Exept from the turbo-lag off course, nothing happends before 1500rpm. When it comes to gas milage all i know is that last winter i went for a weekeend of snow-offroading. One of my buddies with a v8 in his rig consumed 80liters of petrol during thoose 2 days, i filled my tank with 40 liters of diesel as i started and have not refueled yet! I don't use it very often but you get my point... Some people say these engines have a problem with the pushrods, aparently they can jump out of position. Never heppend to me, yet... 2.5 VM motori: Offered from 95 (or late 94) untill the end (again in eureope, don't know about the rest of the world) A more modern, electricaly controlled engine. Puts out 115ish HP i think, again i don't remeber the exact torque but it is much more than the 2.1. When i drive my parents XJ (bone stock w/5speed) i keep getting an average fuel consuption of 9L/100km (please convert to MPG thoose who know how to) Can tow my MJ on a trailer with ease and maintan 70km/h when going uphill. I think this engine fits a car like the XJ well, and if my current DD breakes down i will look for one myself! Sad thing is, they have a bad reputation for overheating and cracking the cylinder heads. I say heads because they use one head per cylinder. When towing with one of these you should always keep an eye on the water temp and stop with once of it starts to overheat, then if youre lucky you only need to replace one head instead of all 4! Using a block heater during the winter, letting the engine cool down after heavy use and following the maintendance scheduel is a always a good way to prevent this. My parents XJ had 2 heads replaced just before they bought it. Diesel power
  4. no, but i know it reads 5-6mph under. :smart: Unless your speedometer is broken it will not read 5-6mph or whatever under, it will read a certain percentage under(or over) your real speed! Just to keep it simple, lets say you measure with GPS your speed to be 50mph and your speedo shows 45mph, then accelerate until your GPS shows 100, at that speed your speedometer should show 90mph. This means your real speed are 10% faster than what your speedometer shows! The same comes to your odometer, quite important when you measure youre gas milage. And I have heard that you get the best gas milage at peak torque rpm...theoreticaly! It makes sense but peak torque are, from what i know, only measured at full throttle and who measure they mpg at full throttle?? There must be something more to it, I don't hestitate that my MJ would get great mpg around 2400rpm (peak torque rpm with a renix), but no way that i would run my volvo at 4800rpm (peak torque rpm with my swedish brick DD) for more than a few seconds!!
  5. Evolution. Simply because it makes perfect sense to me! I belive that every living object on this planet have evolved from that single seed of life, in whatever shape and form it had, millions of years ago. I also belive that when I die, thats it! Game over, system shutdown, format c: etc etc... And thats the driving force in my life, the fact that i belive there is no heaven or hell, no life after death, no God that watches us from above. Thats what get me up from bed in the morning, I want to live my life to the max, experience nature in all its beauty, do a good job, make people around me happy, and do my very best to make shure the generations that follow me will get theyr chance to live theyr life as good, hopefully better, then I have. I guess thats what we all want to do no matter what we belive in?
  6. We have 2 of these little rats at work, and even if I really try, I can't find anything positive to say about them, neither will any of my co-workers! The price and fuel economy might be good, but I don't pay for them I just drive them som I don't care  On the other hand, with low roof and some 17"/18" ish rims they actually look pretty good (as long as you don't see the ford badge...)
  7. I just don't get it, maybe because I'm from the other side of the atlantic, but no matter how much I try to look at it from this side or the other side I simply can not understand the purpose of a program like the CFC????? No one on this planet can convince me that its better for the enviroment/economy to destroy a car that might have 10-20 years left compared to the total cost of producing, distributing and selling a brand new car (that would probably last only half as long as the jeep's we like) I'm getting a little worried at the moment, for the past few months I have have read in the newspapers how "great success" the CFS program have been in the US and how the politicans wants to do something similar over here :fs1: Rant off and sorry for the :hijack:
  8. Someone should write a DIY about putting a 4.0 into a 2.5/2.8. Not necessarily a step-by-step write up, but atleast cover all the problems you would run into, what parts you need and some possible solutions to the most difficult problems. I have thought about writing one myself a couple of times but it would take too long time for me. My english just isnt that good (see my "location") Best way is to jump into it, get a complete donor truck and start from scratch, by the time you are finished you will know your truck inside out

    any fishermen?

Oh yeah I'm an angler  Started the season this week and so far I have been out in the local rivers 3 times. Only one small trout so far, but that doesnt matter. Its great fun anyways! Trout is my favorite, but I like fishing for pike and salmon every now and then too. And if i could only afford that boat i've been dreaming about I would be out on the sea looking for the really big ones.

    Is this a jeep?

    A russian GAZ-66 :dunno:
  11. Have you rebored and honed the cylinders? If not it could be that the new rings get stuck when they reach the ridges in the cylinder made by the old rings at TDC.
  12. A pulling fan is the most effective. Go for that design if you can.
  13. Tricky one, especially without oil... Just done replacing a 60HP 8cylinder daikin compressor that suffered the same problem. It finally died when the main relay jammed in ON position and keept the darn ting running even if all safety devices (oil pressure swith, motor thermal switch etc) was triggered. This is what we found when we dropped the oil pan... Thats the remains of 8 rods and a piston... :ack:
  14. on that one Pete! Wikipedia says: 1994–2001 Jeep Cherokee (power: 118 hp (88 kW) @ 4000 rpm; torque: 221 ft•lbf (300 N m) @ 2000 rpm) Definetly not a 4.0 but it gets the job done! Looks like I will have to crawl under the car once we get it here and snap some pictures of the transmission, otherwise it will be just guessing.
  15. Are you shure about that? :???: Thats not what I have read on other websites, but again :dunno:
  16. My parents are looking for a new nr.2 car and yesterday I looked at a 2000 XJ 2.5TDI they found interresting. Car was in excelent shape, rust free, nice paint, engine driven only 80km after a complete top-end rebuild (Those VM motori diesels are extremly sensitive to overheating and notorious for cracking the heads) Only thing that bothers me is a whining noise from the transmission, it sounded pretty much like i was driving in low-range when i actually was keeping higway speed in 2wd. 99% shure its a ax5/np231 combo. How bad is this? Seller said it was a common problem on these cars and nothing to worry about, but i don't trust him on that one.... Despite this they eventually decided to purchase it and they're going to pick it up early next week
  17. Sounds like my average day at work! I get paid to fix "POS" systems like that, and I actually enjoy it  Guess I have inhaled to much refigerant-gas and become addicted to it.... Seriously, I would have loved to bee there and helped you out, nothing like a challenging job that really lets me use all my knowledge! I know that the customers who have to pay for service people and loose money while the system is down probably see it the other way... So, what was the problem? What compressors are you running? What refrigerant? What supervision system are you running on the PC? Is it for cooling, freezing or AC? Whats this, whats that????? Sorry for the questions, I just find this very interesting!!
  18. Talked to my dad on the phone about 10min ago. He's is in desperate need of a new car and had found a good looking 2001 XJ 2.5turbodiesel for cheap and wantet my "expert" opinion. Off course I was more than happy to take a good'ole jeep-talk with the old man "real 4wheel drive, check for rust here and there, easy to work on, 75% of the MJ parts in the barn would probably fit, engine MUST get routine maintendance or it WILL fail, .." I think my Jeep passion has infected him a little too, its only a few months ago since he missed out a killer deal on a 92 MJ 4.0 5speed and I can't remember seeing him so sad before. I hope he get to buy this one, because I think a XJ would fit there needs better. (and mine too, would make a good tow rig for my manches and its only 2 seat so i can sleep in the cargo area :brows: )
  19. Hood vents and/or bigger fans... :dunno: Just as a cheap 10min experiment you could make yourself some 1" spacers and put between the rear of the hood and the hinges, and see if that helps. Theoreticly it would give you more air flow trough the radiator and better cooling. If it works you might wanna consider doing this: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=7696

    Pirates

:agree: I have been following the storys about thoose pirates in the newspapers, and i can't see what the problem is? EU, USA, norway, china, japan, russia, we all have navy ships patroling the area and they can't do anything about it?? :???: I say shot first, ask later!
  21. :ack:
  22. Wow! That looks just perfect, now i want to do the same myself... What engine do you have? I just imagine that rig with a nasty stroker doing 4wd burnouts
  23. Welded the rear on the diesel MJ, and broke off the muffler when i testet it in the snow/mud  At least i know what to do tomorrow...
  24. Congrats with your new ride, thats gotta the cleanest looking 740 i have ever seen!! Been DD a 850 with the 170hp NA engine for the last 4 years, and i don't think i will ever consider anything else. 335000km and it looks, sounds and feels like new. Take good care of it, and it will probably serve you well for a long time! Note: taking good care of a old volvo does not rule out some engine tweeking :brows:
  25. I removed the bottom weatherstriping (is that the correct name?) on the driver side door, that gave me enough opening between the glass and the metal to see the locking mechanism and use the previously removed weatherstriping to unlock it. Off course I broke off the ignition key in the door lock and trashed it completely with a screwdriver before did this :wall:
