  1. Thought about volvo "whiteblock's"?? The 960 i6 use a AW30-40 transmission that is basicly a rearwheel drive AW4. This means that it should be possible to match up any volvo aluminium 4, 5 or 6 cylinder to a AW4 using the bellhousing, converter etc of a AW30-40. don't know anything about the volvo 4bangers, but the N/A i5's range is from 2.0 126hp to 2.5 170hp. Turbos goes from 2.0 180hp to the latest models, (including ford focus) with 2.5 over 300hp. I6 models has a power range pretty much the same as the i5, but probably a little more torque because of more dispacement. My 850 have rolled 361000km at the moment, and it still purrs like a cat. During the 62000km I have driven it I have never had any trouble at all. Did a compression test a month ago and it was well within factory specs. In my opinion theres not many, if any, engine makers out the that makes longer lasting engines than volvo. Did a lot of research about this some time ago, simply because I am as much a volvofreak as I am a jeep addict and maybe someday, if I ever get too much time and money, Ill put a T6 or T5 in a XJ/MJ just for the fun of it. :dunce:
  2. Been fooling around with the idea of making a doubler t-case for my diesel out of a spare 207 i have. I have pulled it apart and taken some measurements, and so far i can't see why it won't work. New splines have to be machined on the output shaft of the front case, and an adaptor plate has to be made, but I know people who do that for a living. Anyone done something similar? Just looking for ideas and inspiration here.. I know there are better options out there, but one of my goals with this build is to see how much fun I can get out of the parts I already have laying around. (read: I'm broke :grrrr: ...)
  3. Works just fine offroad, once you get used to the total lack of power before the turbo spools up. And they are easy to tune up a bit for that little extra omph, don't know if they can take it in the long run. Time will show..... :shake:
  4. Do they sell parts for 97+ XJ as we know them as well? I'm looking all over scandinavia for a clean parts-truck to do the conversion, but if I can get new chinese parts cheaper its a no-brainer for me.
  5. Got any more of car nr2 from left in the last pic? Remember that one from eurotrial 2008. Awesome rig
  6. Just mailed zack to tell him I need a pair of cab corners. I also asked how big they planned on making them. Got this reply Jo, I would look to the Comanche people to give me their input on how high up to make them. We can only do so much, but I would like to hear input and see some pictures of what people need. Also, it would help it people bought the other Comanche parts I already sell. Thanks, Zack Heisey Z&M Jeeps Ltd. zack@zmjeeps.com http://www.zmjeeps.com 419.893.4JEEP (4533)
  7. Great info! I am definetly in for a pair of cab corners. Going to send him a mail asap!
  8. Some updates! Removed the doors, fender and front axle 3 coatings of POR-15 on the new frontaxle and 4 new balljoints Bought myself one of these and startet doing this The cheap made-in-china cabinet leaks sand and dust all over the place, and it is extremly boring and time consuming work, but it is worth it when you see the result! Shiny, rust free metal  Right now I'm trying to decide between just getting new doors and fenders or going full 97+ :hmm: I have always thought that the moder look was best suited for SWB "street" MJ's, but recently I have changed my mind. If I find a complete donor I'm most likely gonna do it! Also scored a deal from the guy in the garage next door, he was getting rid of his XJ so i bought all the parts i might need. 4 2doors bushwackers, a complete 4.5" rustys :ack: suspension kit and some other stuff. Bushwackers will go on this truck, lift kit is for the dieselMJ.
  9. It CAN and WILL happend on fuel injected engines as well. Happend just a few hours ago when i was out with the volvo. -20*C, moist coastal climate and open air filter makes this a usual problem. Yeah, I know, stupid me for hacking up that intake tube, definetly not worth it  It has also happend a few times with my 4.0L. Funny thing is, theyre both MPI engines... I guess its just pure fysics, air can only hold a certain amount of water at a certain temperature. That amount drops as the temperature drops. A the air passes trought the carb, or throttle body in this certain scenario, the pressure in the air drops, making the temperature of the air to drop as well. Wich again leads to water drops being formed since the air can't hold as much water as it did before. These water drops freeze to the cold metal surfaces, and might cause the throttle flap to get stuck in whatever position it might be in. But I have to admit, didnt know he had a TBI engine, I just read 86 and my mind automaticly went into 2.8-rochester- :ack: mode.
  10. There should be a vacuum operated valve in the intake tube that is controlled by some sort of temperature sensor, its function is to draw fresh outside air trough the intake at hot days and on cold days it redirects the air to be drawn from around the hot exhaust headers. They often fail, making your engine suck hot air all the time = poor performance and gas milage, or cold air all the time = carb freeze over during extreme winter, makes your engine stall or even worse it gets stuck at full throttle
  11. They are russian made UAZ 469. Ohhh i have wanted one for many years, but they are even harder to find than MJ's.... One day, maybe :brows:
  12. Tried to remove the wiper arms today, well...after half an hour of :hmm: :huh???: and  they are still there. Pulled the clip seen in the picture below, that loosend them up a little but i still couldnt get them off. Is there some magic trick that i don't know?

    Who would win?

That what i like. Hornbrod have dyno tested the steps of his engine build! Give me the specs of that honda??????
  14. "...exhaust fan... " WTF? thats what us local hillbilly/rednecks/farmers around here call a turbo!
  15. Joop

    Who would win?

So? When are you gonna race him? I see a lot of people talking about 2-3-4-500 hp hondas in this thread, but where are the 4wd stroker jeeps? I can't live with this forever, someone need to make a statement!!! Hornbrod? Can I make a bet on you??
  16. Joop

    Who would win?

I hate to say this, but I guess the honda would win! You're driving a pickup built to haul stuff around, he's got a streetcar. If he knows what he's doing, well.. I hope you don't bet money on this race! And if you race him, remember that it is 375903 times better to loose with style, than to win driving some jap-crap that looks more like a bondo-commercial than a real car  But idk, I would beat both of you with my VOLVO!! :clapping:
  17. Thats how my rig was when i bought it. 33 - 12,5 tires at stock height. I did put some 30 - 9,5 on it when my dad used for hunting season, other than that i have driven it and wheeled it like this since i bought it. PO has done some minor fender trimming, and i put in 2" coil spacer last year. Rubs like :ack: but I'm kinda used to it now . Since I like to play around in the snow, I would rather have this setup than smaller tires and a lift. 33" is just enough to stay on top of the snow.
  18. Got the engine hooked up, and it fired at the first attempt!!!!! Let it idle untill it reached normal operating temp and checked everything. Oil in water.. :( No need to be sad. Removed the head, resurfaced it, cleaned it up and installed with new gasket and valve stem seals. Also added some bling to the head and some of the accessories... Bling engine almost ready to rumble: Lesson learned.... Why the f*** won't the last pushrod fall into place??? Because there's a zip tie squeezed in there!! :fs1: Not a big setback. Got it running just a few hours later. First road test was a blast! Everything worked like it was supposed to. At that time i had both a 3" lift kit and a rear locker ready to be installed, but everything went straight into the toilet. Had to move out of the garage i hired, plus i was kinda sick of wrenching. Whit the new engine, I just wanted to drive it as much as i could! And I became familliar to the art of abstract body damage... Used and abused it just like that for about a year or so, untill I parked it at my parents place. Just couldnt beat it up anymore, after all that was not why i bought it in the first place. I wantet a good looking rust free comanche that could show my Jap'lovin friends what a real truck should look like!! At first I wanted to keep it at my parents place and work on it there, but that didnt work out. Its just an hour to drive but i have to much stuff to do when I'm there, milk the traktor, changhe oil on the cows, walk the barn, paint the dog etc... :ack: For more than year it just stood there, except the old man used it during elk hunting seasson last year. (He bought himself an XJ shortly after... :brows:) 2 weeks ago I got a deal on a garage not far from here, I share a spot with a good friend of mine who never use it. He just need it to store spare parts and tools. We are a total of 9 friends working on everything from a pontiac transam to badass formula offroad rigs in that garage. With my plans it looks like I'm gonna spend some time here for the next year or so... I have no big plans, just going to tear it down and fix it up, piece by piece. Removing all rust, lift it some 3 - 4", fit 35" tires, front and rear lockers, new bumpers front and rear, new rockers, new paint, stroker, you know, the basic stuff  How it stands today, 30" tires btw: D30 stripped down and ready for new everything: Ected locker for the rear, think I'm gonna whait whit this one untill i have lower gears to install: Skyjacker 3" lift kit w/add-a-leaf, not shure if this would be enough for my plans? don't expect any big progress before christmas, but as the new year starts I hope to be deep into my MJ build-up!! Hope the second try turns out better than the first..
  19. I have another project thread about this heap somewhere else in here already, but it has not been update for the last 2years and last time i checked all the pictures where gone too so I just start over again. First a little short resume: Bought this beaty in 06. 1986 2.8 5speed LWB amc20, fittet with a set of 33" GY wranglers (no lift  ) and a code3 rotating warning lights thingy on the rollbar. Only pic i have of it like it was back then I knew absolutely nothing about jeeps or MJ's at that time. All i knew was that the MJ was the best looking pickup ever made, it was 4x4 and they came with some beefy engines. I thought the 2.8 was one of them... I made some halfassed atempts to make the v6 performe a little better, including swapping the carb to a junkyard weber DGAV 32/36. It was a waste of time. Around that time I also stumbeld upon a website called ComancheClub.Com (check it out, its great!!! :D :clapping: ) I soon realised that i needed a 4.0L... Bought a rolled over 90 XJ 4.0L/aw4/np242 and ripped out everything I needed before trashing the rest. Donor XJ before teardown. Before I startet to install the new engine into the MJ i patched up the rusty floors and swapped out the stock foot style E-brake to the XJ hand E-brake. Cut down the length of the old cable and brazed it togheter again. Rust before: during... Done! About the same on the passenger side to. Just got a call from some friends who is coming over for will continue this later.
  20. Is it possible to get numbers like that running the stock renix computer? I would jump on a stroker build/HO head swap any day, engine work is just plain fun! but the thought of swapping out all the wiring and electronics again... :ack:
  21. Joop

    Ugh

Blah to much beer and trying to flush it down with someof "mom's-homebrew"mixed 50/50 with coffe.... :ack:   See'ya on the other side! By the way, the answer is 42.
  22. Think i have to clarify myself a little here. The renault oilburner w/exhaust fan is good for what it is, the only diesel engine ever available in the MJ. If I where you I would not rely on it as my only DD. Even around here parts are hard to get. Yeah, I hate you to! But I think i might like you if you trade your mustang against my diesel MJ! :clapping:
  23. Not shure about the yellow ones but i wouldnt mind the red one, should make a nice DD during the winter
  24. Sounds like you live on the wrong side of the atlantic, I have a diesel Mj as a trail beater/parts truck, and It should take me less than 1hour to gather up 4-5 nissan sd33t's, two of them are stored in my garage :brows: Joke aside, get the 2.1. Its a pretty good engine, way more reliable than the VM diesel that replaced it in 94 and a lot simpler than the VW option. And off course, its nice that its a bolt on. Maybe a little slow, but there are ways to get more power out of it if you want. If you choose to do it the hard way, I have to agree with Dirty, get a sd33. IMO one of the best diesel engines ever made. If I where to do a diesel swap, I wouldnt consider anything else. Not as long as there is engines available on the planet earth. And of they where all gone, then i wouldnt do it. Simple as that! By the way, you can convert a N/A into a turbo. A friend of mine did that on his nissan patrol. From what I know, all he did was to bolt on turbo manifoils, big intercooler and fired it up. Still running strong after years of abuse.
  25. I'm not 100% shure, but i think the MJ was never offered in the UK. If you want one you will most likely have to look towards mainland europe or scandinavia, best chance to find one would be sweden or germany. Its not as far as you might think. In addition to the obvius tunnel theres also ferry routes to both norway and denmark. Some few search-sites (the only ones i remember out of my head): Sweden Germany Norway I use to check them out every now and then just out of curiosity, and i have never before seen that few MJ's for sale before :dunno: Or you can get yourself a land/range rover :ack:   :rotf:
