  1. Fully agree with you, Don. IMHO Edd China was the main reason to watch the show. Haven’t watched many of the episodes with the new guy.
  2. Not sure what this one is. Lamborghini?
  3. BMW I8 on I-20/59 downtown Birmingham, AL. First one I’ve seen “in person”.
  4. And, of course, must be CHROME!
  5. Cut a cardboard template to the above dimensions following the door gap as a guide. You can use it on both sides to make sure they are even (not that anyone will see both sides at once, but you would still know if they were different). That's how I put mine on the truck
  6. If the body and frame are solid I’d go for it. The mechanical bits can be sorted out.
  7. I think the primary concern is the same as for MJs - RUST!
  8. In his post on 3/23 re air cleaner bolt, he said his truck had a 350 V8. While it’s not a certainty, I’d say it was a Chevy/GMC 350 V-8. I agree that he should provide full info on his set-up if he wants any information that is specific to his needs.
  9. Really nice original truck! Welcome to the addiction, er, club.
  10. I can’t believe that booster isn’t chromed 🤔
  11. Any power generating facility, including hydro, fossil and nuclear. U S Steel, Nucor Steel, Steel Dynamics, etc. Practically any federal, state, county or city facility Pratically any industrial plant They all have published policies regarding items banned from their property. Usually it’s printed on the paperwork you sign to get a pass into the facility. I go there to sell industrial equipment. That’s where my income comes from. Basically, in return for the right to enter the facility you must give them the right to search your vehicle. The search can be for loss prevention as well as for drugs, alcohol, weapons, etc. I have the right to refuse search of my vehicle just as they have the right to refuse entry to their facility. Since I need to repeatedly enter these facilities to earn my income, I really don’t have an option other than to agree to their policies. Not all facilities search every time you enter (some do), but there’s always one or more random searches each day and it’s a one strike and you’re out (permanently) kind of game. I can guarantee you that there are plenty of the same policies in PA.
  12. I’m seeing more and more places where you can’t have a gun (or even a pocket knife, in some cases) on your person or in your vehicle anywhere on their premises. They reserve the right to search your vehicle if you come on their premises (and they have several times). Getting caught means you’re permanently banned from their property and possibly having a chat with local law enforcement authorities. As I’m in industrial sales, getting permanently banned from my best customers is not a good thing. On the other hand, there are areas I travel to or through where I would feel a lot more comfortable armed. So what I’d like to have is a gun box/safe that doesn’t look like one and doesn’t have an obvious locking mechanism. Something that I could easily stash the gun in before I go onsite and retrieve after I leave. Like maybe a fake LoJack transmitter under the back seat (Ram back seat flips up easily). Not sure how the locking mechanism would work, maybe electromagnetic with a switch under the dash. Just an idea and any of you detail/fabricator types are welcome to take it and make it work. Obviously doesn’t address the “what if the truck is stolen” issue but I don’t know if there is a way to adsolutely prevent thievery.
  13. For reconnaissance runs I generally carry a small tool bag with a four-way screwdriver, 1/4” drive SAE socket set, 1/4” deep well metric sockets, 6” & 8” crescent wrenches, vise grips, channellocks, leatherman tool, knife, side cutters, 3/8” ratchet and 1/4”-3/8” torx bit set. If I’m going for something specific and large I’ll take a large tool box with all the above, 1/2” drive SAE socket set, 1/2” metric sockets, ball peen hammer, chisel, short pry bars, SAE and metric Allen sets, any specific tools I think I may need for the item I’m after, and a hand cart. I have gone in with a 18V sawzall, drill and impact as/when needed. And, yes it is a PITA when people want to borrow tools, but I’ve been on the other side of that transaction at times.
  14. Use self-locking nuts so things don’t vibrate loose. No fun removing those “B” pillars to get to the brackets.
  15. There should be demand for these because every time they show up in the “For Sale” forum they’re quickly snapped up. He might want to check availability of the plastic “nuts” for mounting the speakers and supply them (and the screws) as a complete set.
  16. Thanks for the input gentlemen. I think I’ll start this project as soon as my MJ fund gets built back up a little more. Recently changed the diff lube because the cover was leaking. When Rich had it done (before I bought the truck) the shop just used RTV as a gasket and it didn’t hold. While I had the case open I pulled the axles to check the bearings and replace the axle seals (driver side had leaked on the brakes) so that part will be old hat. Is it safe to assume the caliper location will be correct without any spacers on the brackets?
  17. I’ve seen several posts about rear disc brake conversions for D35 axles using ZJ components. What ZJ model years work for this and are there any that offer better compatibility? From what I’ve seen, I need to get brackets, calipers, rotors, brake lines and e-brake cables. Anything else? And, do the wheel studs have to be changed because the rotors are thicker than the drums? Will the axle shafts interchange to provide the longer wheel studs? Looks like the local PnP has several ‘96 and ‘98 models on the yard.
  18. Congratuations, Zach! A good work ethic is a great thing to have. It’s the #1 thing good employers look for and will serve you well wherever life takes you.
  19. We sell LED retrofit kits for the old 96” flourescent fixtures for which you can’t get replacement flourescent tubes. The kits bypass the ballast and put out a lot more light at about 1/4 to 1/3 the wattage. They come with four 4 foot long LED tubes, new end and center caps and the wiring to convert the old fixture. Also have LED replacements for 4 tube 2’ x 4’ drop-in flourescent fixtures for suspended ceilings. They put out way more light and some brands are dimmable like incandescents. A lot of industrial and commercial customers are converting for the better light, longer life (less maintenance) and lower operating cost. The LED manufacturers are also making high bay fixtures for warehouses, hangars, etc. The cost is better than the mercury and sodium vapor and the halide lights and they don’t turn off t when they get hot. I’m waiting for the price to come down on the 2 tube shop light fixtures so that I can replace all those in my basement garage and shop.
  20. That’s the truck he built for Chrysler. When they got through showing it they were going to crush it but Lee talked them into letting him “store” it for them. I think he finally managed to get a title on it. There’s a good “Lee” story about a supercharged Firebird but it’s too long and off topic for the forum. I ran into him in a Mexican restaraunt at lunch a few months back and he told me he had retired.
  21. Just my 2c. I don’t have a stroker, but if I were to get one it would be from HESCO. Can’t say anything from experience about their pricing but knowing their work I would not be at all surprised if they are higher. I do know Lee Hurley personally (he’s retired and Joe is running the show, I hear) and know his insistence on quality and that quality is still the name of the game there. Chrysler chose HESCO to build and package the throttle body and distributor upgrade kits for Jeep products (I’ve seen the kits being packaged in Mopar boxes). Chrysler chose HESCO to build their show MJ (one really stout, good looking truck). And hundreds of classic, performance, and exotic car owners/collectors have chosen HESCO as the only shop that touches their cars. So, if I wanted a stroker for my MJ I would go to HESCO. Your money, your choice.

    Hello

Definitely keep this thread going. Brings back memories of hanging at airports while learning to fly then being in aviation club. I got my private in my 40s, flew for a few years until work and life got in the way. The most relaxing, stress removing activity I’ve ever done (with the exception of a few Aw S#&$s!). I still look up every time a prop job goes over and when I drive by a small airport I have the urge to pull in, find an instructor and go bore some holes through the sky. Thanks for sharing your world. Best wishes for your brother’s health.

  24. Has anyone painted the trim around the taillight lens sections black? What type of paint did you use? Gloss, semi-gloss, matte, flat? Sorry I don’t have a photo example.
