  1. I have a 1988 MJ that according to VIN began life as a 2.5L. It's been swapped with a 1995 4.0L from an XJ. I need help finding the correct Air Conditioning kit to put into this vehicle. Any ideas?
  2. Alright... call me a sissy... but I have a new Comanche and it doesn't have A/C. I hunt in Alabama, and the humidity and mosquitos get thick real quick at the beginning of hunting season. I have taken a look at the Novak sight and almost vomited on my keyboard when i saw the price of their a/c kits. Is there anywhere else that sells them cheaper?
  3. Troubleshooting the A/C and hearing a clicking from the compressor. Here is a video of it while the climate control is set to max. https://streamable.com/l5k3z You can see something spinning about half a turn that coincides with the clicking. Is that the compressor clutch? Very new to anything A/C related. Any help narrowing down what the issue might be would be very welcome!
  4. I'm 75% sure my AC leak in my 91 MJ is at the evaporator (will be 100% sure before I proceed with the next drastic step). And, if I have to replace the evaporator I'll replace the heater coil while I've got things apart. My question Is whether it is possible to replace the evaporator and heater coils without completely removing the dash. Would there be enough room to change both coils by just hinging the dash back without disconnecting all the wiring and HVAC controls? Or, does it require more room to take the box apart? If I have to pull the dash I will (did it on my old 88), but would like to avoid it if possible.
  5. The AC in my 91 Eliminator worked well last year. Over the fall & winter it was laid up while I did some floor repair, cleaned the interior plastics, cleaned and dyed the carpet, etc. Fired it up this spring and everything that worked before the lay-up still works - with the exception of the AC. The compressor turns (clutch engages and compressor turns when the upper control is moved to Normal or Max) but it only blows ambient temperature air, about the same temperature as in Vent. The hot/cold door in the plenum works (cable operated) as I can see the arm move when I move the lower control lever from cold to hot to cold and the temperature of the air changes (hot air in hot/cool air in cold). The upper control also changes the air flow as designed (air through defroster when in defrost, floor in heat, floor, floor and vents in bilevel, vents in vent, and vents in normal or max). Also, the recirculation door opens in max (vacuum operated). The truck has R134a fittings on the ports and appears to have been converted but I can't confirm that 100%. I've ordered adapters (R134a to 1/4") to hook up AC gauges and check low and high side pressures. Low side was around 25-30 PSI according to the gauge on a R134a recharge can. The system took a couple of shots from the can and pumped back down to around 45 PSI suction and holding. No apparent effect on cooling. Any suggestions from the AC gurus on what I should try before my adapters get here?

While looking through my 88 jeep parts catalog for air conditioning components I discovered an illustration page titled "Receiver/Drier, Condenser and Hoses 6 Cylinder Engine w/FACTORY Air conditioning Cherokee, Wagoneer, Comanche" and the very next page has an illustration titled "Receiver/Drier, Condenser and Hoses 6 Cylinder Engine w/American Air conditioning Cherokee, Wagoneer, Comanche" My truck came with AC straight from the factory, this I know. The truck is an AMC. So whats the deal? Could anyone tell me what the difference is between Factory and American air conditioning components?
  7. I am trying to get my AC up and running. It is a cobbled together nightmare. I do not have an AC thermostat under the dash so I am going to order one. I have tracked down the wiring that plugs into it, but I have no idea where to route the temp. sensing end of the switch or where it is supposed to go. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I also do not have a low pressure switch. It isn't wired for one and the drier doesn't have a switch in it at all. Suggestions on this. Should I try and install one? The drier has a small plug where I think the switch should go.
