  1. No $#!&! Suppose that cage kit is from D&C? I designed that cage! Curious to see how it all fits with a ‘97+ swap. The original was mocked up in my ‘86. I’ll for sure be watching!!!
  2. Drive it. Enjoy it. Can't take it with you come the day the Grim Jeeper come knocking anyhow.
  3. Dang! Good deal for someone.
  4. The front valance is unobtainable at this point. Either need to figure something creative or find an original somewhere. I can tell you straight up that if you've got any plans of calling the Archers, they really don't care to talk about this stuff anymore.
  5. Awesome truck, dude. Seeing updates on this really takes me back to the rust of MN. I dig it! Let me know when you're coming back to CO.
  6. Is there such a fix for mobile devices? I've got the Chrome app on mine but all I'm finding is desktop fixes.
  7. ... nevermind. Need to clear cache for the stars to align properly as well.
  8. Hmm... no workie for me. Something I'm missing?
  9. When I did mine a while back, I pounded out the roll pin and then drilled the hinge hole put to 5/16"... I think. Just dropped a grade 8 bolt in there. Hasn't been a problem.
  10. Love me some deep cleaning!!
  11. Well, folks... here we are in August already! This month is all about another one of our up and comers that has built a very cool MJ over the past couple years. Haven't seen it yet? Better take a close look! This month we're happy to show... YEAR/MODEL ● 1987 Jeep Comanche 4x4 Pioneer Long Bed ENGINE/PERFORMANCE ● 4.0l with 4 hole injectors otherwise stock DRIVETRAIN ● AX15 with a hurst short throw shifter, Trussed HP30, Ford 8.8, NP231 COOLING ● Stock with aluminum Expansion tank ELECTRICAL/IGNITION ● Renix SUSPENSION/STEERING ● OTK Ironrock Offroad steering, about a 6.5 inch short arm lift, Spring Over INTERIOR ● Custom Center console and bedlined floors, otherwise stock with a nice bench seat. great for the ladies ;) BRAKES ● Discs all around with drilled and slotted rotors up front LIGHTING ● 2 KC hi lights up front and rear facing Flush LED cubes EXTERIOR ● Metallic Grey. Tell Us Your Best MJ Story ● I was coming home from playing lacrosse with my buddies and there was a little toyota corolla stuck on some train tracks. It was a Asian family from canada, they're all horrible drivers by the way, and they turned off of the intersection onto the train tracks. I winched them off and they paid me $50, all took pictures with me and invited to their house in Vancouver, BC for dinner. It was quite a weird experience but also pretty funny. CC is Awesome!... Why Do You Think So? ● I had never worked on any vehicles until my jeep and comanche club taught me everything. I am so thankful for this resource and I've tried my best to do as much as i can to give back Such an awesome truck! It's great to see the younger crowd having an interest in these old trucks. Way to go 'Rabbit! Keep it on the road and congratulations! -Ben This post has been promoted to an article
  12. Gah!... pictures are down. :fs2: Sorry, Bo. I really don't need another MJ right now. I've been driving this truck daily and we haven't really bonded just yet. It has been used a number of times as a work truck so for that I'm grateful. Can't help but think of long term plans for it though. I really don't know what to think of it right now... having another isn't an answer right now. :dunno:
  13. Bummer. I got dropped today.
  14. I am seriously dreading PB dropping me. I literally have thousands of pictures all over the interwebs. Is there any warnings they give?
  15. I've got two PB accounts. My original one I caught myself getting nervous at 89% capacity so I used my wife's email address to start a new one. Haven't gotten any warnings and all of my pictures are still good in my build threads. Should I be worried? :dunno: For the record, I've heard good things about using Google for photo hosting. Been thinking about starting with them. EDIT: Just tried a test photo with Google and got You are not allowed to use that image extension on this community. :fs2:
  16. Naw... I hated dragging the Cherokee's @$$ all over the place! I can't imagine how this big ol' booty would fair on some of the trails I run. :laughin:
  17. The end. :( Its getting the axles from my '86 and then... and then I really don't know. I kinda want to keep it, but I really don't know why. It'll probably end up going down the road.
  18. ... bummer. :( For anyone who knows Rick or has worked with him, he's totally awesome and old school from the Yahoo CC days. Got word from him the other day that the Varmint is up for sale. https://denver.craigslist.org/cto/6199563876.html
  19. I've been driving this truck for a few weeks now. This past weekend I was really happy that I didn't get around to cutting up the bed yet.
  20. Oops!... looks like we're a day late, but not anything short when it comes to quality Comanches! Have you ever looked at a project before even starting and then decided to pump the brakes? No shame in that! Sometimes it just makes sense to pick up where someone else left off. I've been there. We all have at some point. This month, let's have a look at such an example! Tell Us Your Best MJ Story ● The first time i took this jeep to do some serious off roading was to the frostbite event at Kansas Rocks Recreation Park. I was absolutely amazed at the capability and frankly, the jeep was able to outdrive me. It made me look like i had more technical skill than i did. But my biggest sense of pride came when i tackled “The Slab”. After watching several vehicles try and fail, and after one jeep broke the driveshaft just trying to get to the obstacle, I succumbed to the peer pressure and went for it. If it wasn't for my lack of technical skill it would have made it up without a single hiccup like it was nothing, but it took me two tries to get the traction I needed. Sure 'nuff, I got it! Crawled up it without even going over 2500RPM. In the past I have been used to mud and sand type terrain, but now that I am in Kansas, I have been expanding my technical trail ability thanks to this jeep. CC is Awesome!... Why Do You Think So? ● The wealth of knowledge is great! I needed to do a gear swap and locker install on my axles after the spartan locker blew up and destroyed the front Ring and Pinion Gear… If it wasn't for the help of the members and their know-how, I would have felt a lot less confident going into the project. With having the input from people here checking my work, I am very confident that my install will last for the life of the jeep! Comanche Club RULES!!!! Stay tuned! In the coming months I have a lot of plans for this jeep! I just found out today that my first child is going to be a baby boy!!! Let's hope that the jeep blood runs in the family! :] FULL BUILD THREAD HERE Way to go, Brannon! I think you did the right move with taking a good truck and making it great. I think a lot of times a project can stall out because they take longer than originally anticipated. By picking up where the past owner left off, you could focus on the finishing touches right away. I really like that you still have plans for it too. They're never really done, anyhow! Congratulations! -Ben This post has been promoted to an article
  21. My radiator came out of a Scout 800 with a Chevy 350 swapped in (why means it was cheap, used, and it was sitting around the shop) and I'm using the mechanical fan that came from the ZJ donor. I'd have more room if I went with an electric fan, but I really like the simplicity of a mechanical. I'm yet to see the temperature gauge go over 200 with this setup. Here's the best picture I've got off hand. It was before the lift, but it shows how tucked up my new front crossmember is. It hangs down about 1/2" lower than the stock stamped crossmember. I've got room though that I could've tucked it up higher... ah, well. My stock front bumper is temporary, but if I had decided to keep it and run the plastic lower valance then it would hide everything. Lots more pictures in my build thread too. :hijack:
  22. I've got another option that I honestly think should be considered by anyone wanting to do a 4.0 swap... think 5.2. :D Granted, if your firewall allows for it then a 4.0 swap will be almost bolt in. If you figure motor/trans mounts, a 5.2 fits great in our engine bays! Think about this... doing a 4.0 swap means that you'll need to do something about your front core support to fit a proper radiator. Why not cut it to fit a somewhat more standard size radiator that'll get way better flow to it? Something else to think about is that there are millions of 4.0s out there but they're also getting harder to find low mileage donors. The 5.2s can be found in ZJs, Dakotas, Rams, Durangos... way more available, easier to find, and a better chance of finding lower mileage engines. Even more if you consider the 5.9s too! Cheap too! I picked up my donor vehicle for $300. Anyhow, I digress. This is probably a bit of a hijack/rant, but after my 5.2 swap I'd definitely consider it over a 4.0 especially in a '86 truck. Have a look through MY BUILD THREAD.
  23. Thanks all! Yard work starts this weekend as nobody has been around for the last few months. I've got a contractor buddy stopping by who is giving a hand with the little bit of framing needed inside too. Time to work!
  24. Now after everyone in my shop has driven my truck, the issue has been thought to be actually coming from the rear end and transferring its way up the driveshaft. Apparently my old worn out rear end could use a rebuild. Good news? Maybe. Just something else on the list. :shake:
