Valve Cover Gasket Replacement

at least you didnt bust three bolts like i did  btw that red looks good  -
Well, if you want automatic your going to end up with an AW4 since they were pretty much the only auto trans in the Cherokees, you'll probably want a 4.0L engine just because they are more plentiful, easier to get parts for and more power to haul those grand kids and run that AC. As far as what year you can't really go wrong if you have a 4.0L just keep in mind the ranges of the changes in the XJ 87-90 are renix (little less HP, closed cooling system, more vacuum lines), 92-01 are HO(little more HP, open cooling system, less vacuum lines, 87-96 are the first gen body style(sharper edges), 97-01 are the gen 2 body style(little rounder), and the 97-01 have a different interior. I don't know about your local used vehicle market but I know around here if you want a reliable XJ for $1500 you'll end up with a pre-97 rig. On the older ones you'll want to make sure the refrigerant has been converted to 134a from R12 since you can't get it any more. I can't speak to transfer cases but that should be a foundation for your search.

swapped to the open cooling system, already had the radiator. Just eliminated the coolant bottle and replaced with an XJ one off the rad. Flushed the radiator to round off the job and now my truck doesnt overheat anymore

That looks sweet, almost as if it were made to go there  is it pretty sturdy?

you should be getting something like 14v off the alternator if it is functioning correctly. Take that baby to an auto parts store and have em test it.

If you want it always on with the truck I would wire it to a relay which gets power off the battery and switches from some accessory's power supply, such as the cigarette lighter. Relays draw very little power so it should not affect the lighter too much and you can always run an inline switch in the dash if you want to be able to control it for warming up like GirsMJ86 said. This way it would default to on when the truck is running and then you can turn it off by switching off the switch when needed.

i thought the vent position was supposed to blow blow hot air; doesn't it vent the engine bay? or something along those lines? I always used to use the vent option to cool my truck if it was starting to overheat when i had that issue, and it worked.

WAIT! you are telling me if you get in an accident your fuel tank can be damaged, causing a leak, and that fuel is flammable!??!?!? How did we not realize this sooner!

 "This is my 89 cherotruck."

That ranger seems to have a manual transmission, seems like it might be tough to know when to shift with an electric motor since they are so quite.

Comanche Of The Month - May 2013

every time i see this truck it makes me wish I had painted mine white! -
I happen to have a spare that I can confirm as working and send to u if u want, also i got mine from advance and it works great. like $30 if i recall but it works well. I have the same cluster in mine, i believe most people call it the 3/4 cluster, they all use the same sender (if they have gauges that is) so it should all be kosher.
-
I had to create an entire custom harness to wire them. Alexia, on the harness you created what gauge of wire did you use?? I'm about to buy an 18 roll assortment of differently colored wires for some future projects and want to be sure to get the correct gauge for this application.
-
I was wondering the same thing  If it is possible you probably would have to pull the entire regulator and tracks from the XJ
-
If you are just installing that fan as a secondary fan to the mechanical one you should just be able to wire it to the existing aux fan plug. It should be in that driverside corner somewhere, you can either splice it or made a nice little plug adapter. The fan relay should be switched on by the ac being on or the temp sensor in the radiator, from the factory.
-
my understanding is that u r gunna have to modify the firewall so its probably advantageous to have the engine out. I stand corrected.
