oh good, as you can probably tell hard wiring the tail light harness to the rear harness would make bed removal problematic.
-
are you going to hardwire in the harness or do you also have the rear harness side of the plug to change over?
-
There's your problem, Chrysler changed the plug for the tail light harness when they switched to the HO. You should be able to swap the plug on the rear harness side if you like or someone may sell you a tail light harness with the correct plug. There is a 91 in my local JY now. If you want I can snatch either the whole harness or just the plug for the tail light side the next time I'm there. PM me if you want to go that route.

The only difference should be between Renix and HO MJ's where I believe they simply have a different connector. So far as I know, which may not be far at all, any trailer harness had to be spliced into the factory harness. Can u post details of the truck you got the harness from and the truck u want to put it into? perhaps a pic? also you can find the info u need here: http://comancheclub.com/topic/19339-trailer-wiring-for-4-wire-and-6-pole-receiver/?hl=trailer+wiring

I love that whole write up but I have an 89 Mj so no c101 connector, If you mean the ECU connector I'm sure it wouldn't hurt anything for me to refresh tha tconnector so this weekend while I'm messing with it I will do that anyway. Do you know which bulbs go in which sockets in the tail lights? -
Her Favorite Color Is Chrome
relyt120 replied to CommaComanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You should check out this ebay listing there is a "laredo" 87 MJ. has anything you could ask for: Chrome taillights, chrome rear bumper in perfect condition, chrome handles and grill assembly, and even an elusive receiver hitch!. I don't know how many laredo mjs there were so this could be just a replica but it looks pretty nice so maybe you could get some ideas or inspiration or whatever.... Are you talking about the cab vents? I have never seen them be chrome. -

relyt120 replied to relyt120's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Looks like I spoke too fast, drove it to work today and the issue still persists. I have not replaced the bulb yet but I pulled the one I thought I replaced. Just to be certain can someone tell me which bulb goes in which socket? According to my owners manual I should use 2057 in the stop/tail lamps, 1156 in the turn signal lamps and also 1156 in the reverse lamps. no mention of 1157 in the manual but I take it that it is a direct replacement for the 2057 bulb. So I guess my question is which bulb goes in the top socket, and which goes in the middle socket? -

Its definitely the bulb, I pulled it out and now its fine. I'll replace it the next time I'm at the parts place. Thanks for that advice. Though one of the right marker lights still comes on with the left signal. Must have a wire crossed in the headlight harness, its a 99 harness wired to a 89 plug. -

I see where you are going with this..... Ill check the bulb when i get off work, i hope that is the issue. it makes so much sense! Or so little! Which ever way you slice it.... guess I probably should wonder why I have a random taillight bulb in my glove box. -

I did replace a bulb in the taillights recently but i can't remember if this started happening before or after that Fortunately not. I had a lot of Volvos and Saabs in the past - all Lucas House of Darkness junk. I have heard the horror stories let us all be thankful that they did not! I will go through the grounds as soon as I can,I have never done it on this truck before  , if that doesn't work wiring diagrams may be exactly what I need to figure this out. Thank you. -
so... My mj is my daily driver its a 89 4.0 auto on the column but all of the sudden last week some strange electrical gremlins appeared. Namely the marker lights below the headlights come on with the brakes and one bulb from the passengers marker lights comes on with the left turn signal. Everything that is supposed to light up still does and the rear lights are working correctly. Also the brake switch now makes an audible click when it engages now. It is obvious that there is a short somewhere in my wiring and I am assuming it is under the dash, since I smoke tested a couple wires several months ago , though I was able to repair what I thought was all of the damage at that time. I am seriously considering getting a complete under dash harness from an xj so I can be done with that horrible mistake once and for all. Direct swap? Opinions? thanks for reading
