Coolant temp sensor...
DirtyComanche replied to DirtyComanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Wait... Where's the one in the head? I was looking at the one in the block and going 'This thing plugs into the ECM, how am I gonna use this?' -
A few good ones have been mentioned. Stay away from the toyota one. It's a pile, IMHO. Actually, that's pretty much how I feel about toyotas in general. Nissan offers a nice little unit in some of their horrible trucks. I've seen one in an XJ. Isuzu makes a couple. The larger (good) one is rare other than out of service trucks. Which can be found. The smaller one came in the mini-trucks and some troopers perhaps. Honestly, if you want one of the smaller ones, buy an Isuzu pickup. They're actually decent trucks other than the IFS. Cummins makes a 3.3L engine that should fit. Chevy bellhousing pattern. Should be easy, but you won't find one in the boneyard. And the volkswagon one is actually pretty decent, and can be mated up really easily. I've heard of them in suzukis, so they'll fit a jeep no problemo.

They're leaf sprung on all corners. Have a soft frame. Have poorly designed steering. Have an amemic engine. Have horrible brakes. Etc... If a guy wants to put the time into them, they can be made to drive nice. 4wd or 2wd. I saw one at the 'rod lot the other day. It was chopped, had a 302 in it, and mustang II suspension with a chrysler 8.75 rear. It was pretty hot if you asked me. Basically, it's all about how bad you want it, and if it really is the right one for you.

anyone know how much lift SOA dana 44 gives?
DirtyComanche replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Oh yeah, D44 rear are 2.75" tubes. Unless you've got a weird one. -

Unless he's going junkyard. A juy can swap in some lower arched leaves to get the ride height closer. -
For a 4oh, renix era... Anybody have a clue how it's wired? I couldn't find the diagram in the manual, until I found it under the ECM stuff. Looks like the computer reads everything from it? Don't think I can use it without a computron. I'm still trying to figure out the tach and oil pressure sender. Think I have them in the bag though... Oh, does anybody know of any cheap aftermarket gauges?

Expanded steel, maybe. Might save a few pounds. Or I might drop the whole deck... -

Here's the propane parts. Lock-off valve. Liquid propane from the tank is fed through it. This one is vacuum triggered (see the hose?), but electric ones are common to. I couldn't find the electric one. An impco one will say 'Imcpo' and give a part number on the back. I don't know about any other models. Image Not Found Regulator/vapourizer. Unregulated liquid propane from the lock-off is fed to here via hose. It is vapourized by an element that coolant is pumped through and regulated at a steady low pressure (1psi or something). Image Not Found That's an Impco model E. If you've got a rag to wipe the dirt off it's pretty easy to tell. They made the 'Model E' label plenty big. There's other models, but the 'E' is ment for larger engines. Mixer. Just like a carb. They come with different base plates and can be had in different sizes. Imcp 425. Image Not Found Image Not Found They're labelled really clearly. The 425 is the most common one. But a guy might find an OHG 450, I forget how easily they're identified. In a dual fuel application an Imcpo 300A is the most common, and they're labelled just like the 425. Hope that helps. -
IMHO, I do not like that product. And yes, I had it.

Good sun screen, applied often, works. I often weld without a shirt on. -

Don't worry too much about appearance with 6011, it isn't known for looking good. -

i have used 6013 like twice for sheet metal i use 6011 instead. and of course i live in oregon and that is the easiest thing to come by here but whatever works i guess! 6011 penetrates much deeper than 6013. 6013 is ment for low-strength applications in the flat position. So, it works pretty well for welding in floors and not a lot else. But, it is a lot about what you're comfortable with. -

The vac axle doesn't change anything. Renix era MJ/XJs had either. The 4wd indicator has to be swapped possibly. Unless you're talking an electronic drive speedometer on the tcase.... In which case the cable setup is a direct swap (the parts are interchangable, I finially went out and checked). OBD anything sucks, IMHO. I don't care for it. -
Tail light ground wire Qs ??
DirtyComanche replied to BARILLMS's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Okay, there's a couple. There's one at the taillights that grounds the rear half of the truck. Look in the driver's side light. It should work as long as that ground is hooked up. Now, there's also a fuel system ground, and it is under the dash IIRC. -

If the gauge has a bad ground, or the sending unit does, it'll be all over the map. -

On pirate, in the cherokee section, the owner posted in the MJ thread. It's pretty beat now. -
Like my boss always said 'It ain't plumbin' if it ain't a Lenny." The funny part about that is he's a professional pilot, with both fixed wing and rotary certs.

WTB - One VERY LARGE buffing wheel.
DirtyComanche replied to DirtyComanche's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Yeah. I should just sandblast the joint and weld it back up. The propane is just going to kill it anyways. I'll wait and see if I can swap an HO head onto it at some point, and buy a header for that if it works. Maybe. The stock HO ones are actually really good. The renix ones leave a bit to be desired. -

Got rid of this crap. Well, I might need to remove some of it for re-use. I want this thing to run with only 3 or 4 wires (not including plugs). I think I can pull it off. Image Not Found And I'll budget a couple wires for lighting. I guess. I think I'll install a battery isolator too. Might as well. I dropped the tank. What a PITA if you're alone. Image Not Found Especially because it is almost right full. I guess I'll take it to school and use it to run our 320ci 4cyl. Hopefully it can run on 87... No tank. Might ditch the decking too. Image Not Found Or maybe the whole deck? Engine is pretty naked now. Not done yet, but close... Image Not Found I gotta change that disty out. Tomorrow, I guess. Image Not Found Interior is mostly done. Heater core is still in place. Image Not Found They don't make them easy to remove. I think I should just man up and order a header for this thing too. Since the one I had is cracked to rat-$#!&. And I realized that I gave all my intake mounting bolts to my friend, along with a pile of the EFI junk. Ohwell, at least I know where they went. And Pat, I forgot to take pics of the propane jazz. I'll remember tomorrow, hopefully. -

Exactly. Or just buck them off with a sawzall and don't worry about it. I can cut straight with a sawzall. -

Toaster ovens work great for drying rod. Just don't let the lady catch you.
