At least it broke down with a view.... once I got it home I was ready to burn it. Not only had I bought a trailer just for that trip, it broke down the day before season, and opening day the rain and snow came. The ol ford is great on the highway but heavy and doesn't do well in mud/snow with all the traction nannies so I was limited to the areas I could drive near and explore but did pretty good with 2 solid bucks. I busted out the ohms meter that I didn't know how to use, it had fuel but just cranked and cranked. Tested tps and that was good, tested cps and it was good also but replaced anyways and that didn't help. Seemed I was getting weak spark, so I replaced the coil pack and it sputtered but wouldn't run. After looking thru the fsm I found the newer 4.0s have a cam position sensor in the distributor. Tested mine and couldn't get a reading, headed to the junkyard and snagged one. Problem solved, fired right up and hasn't given an issue in 2 years now.- 32 replies

Oct 2016 Since salmon la sac it had been cooperating. A buddy had a car trailer i was going to be able to use for hunting season, and 2 weeks before it fell thru. I'd been excited all year that I was taking the jeep and at that point I was determined. Called u haul for a rental and it was going to be a total of around $1400 to take a trailer to ID, drop it off for two weeks and pick up and other for the drive home. Noway was I going to do that, used trailers were going for that much but needed decking and wiring, ended up buying a new one for $2100 and loaded up for the hunt. Showed up a week early to explore and the day before opening day that sputtering from a steep grade hit but this time it wouldn't restart. I'd driven 15 miles from camp for old jeep trail that looped way back around. Since I was on top of the mountain I got my bearings and hiked as the crow flies about 5 miles to camp. Luckily the night before I was at a bar at met two hunters from Wisconsin and caught them just before they were heading out of their camp. We took my truck one one of their quads to recover it. One lucky hunter got to stump jump the jeep 4 miles down a trail with no power steering, brakes and headlights that were dimming. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk- 32 replies

A bit more at Elbe trails where I finally got some trail damage crawling up a ledge. Snaked down just before the rear bumper and cracked off a piece of bondo from the lower part of the bed. I knew I should have added some protection from the bumper to wheelwell. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk- 32 replies

Went out near Salmon la Sac and explored some old mining trails, coming up a steep grade the jeep started backing firing a bit and was a tad over 210* so I went to pull over and it died. Figured I had a long walk out to civilization so I took a beer and looked at the sights near me, came back about 20 mins later and it fired right up. Found the culprit of that issue the next year. 2016ish I took it out to Naches trail, which is a historic trail for my area. The pilgrims came over on horse and buggy, and now most of the trail is doable in 2low I went thru one section most avoid and almost regretted it. Rumor has it the whole trail use to be that difficult.- 32 replies

Jan 2013 After that I was nearly burnt out on it but managed to swap in the new axles and 3 link. Shortly after that I was working on the jeep and had my bumper off. Somebody wanted it more than I did and one day it was gone. Put the stock bumper back on til I got another diy bumper from dirt bound offroad but I pretty much sat for the next couple years other than going to the store every month or so. At some point sept. 2012 I tackled the floor with some Classic to current floor pans. They claimed fitting Comanche's but we're clearly xj pans and took some massaging. I coated with rustbullet, seam sealed and did a.rust bullet top coat. I've recently pulled the interior to do a complete rewire and the floors are perfect still. On a side note, I was having issues with welding and and my little 110v welder, kept burning thru. I switched wire to some ers70 I believe, basically a wire that let me actually weld beads instead of tack tack tack Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk- 32 replies

Redoing my thread that i deleted before the photobucket fiasco. I bought this in 2011. Me and a buddy drove 6 hrs one way and I was so stoked I bought it without really looking at it. Shortly after the newness wore off I began finding how poorly it was built by the previous owner. My first trip out I went into bumper deep water, then discover the floor had many pinholes from rust, it would be a year before I tackled that then it mostly sat for a couple years since I was burnt out on working on it. It came 97+ hoakey-a$$ swapped with what I was told a 99 xj 4.0 that turns out to be held in place with a tj motor mount bracket with 1 bolt on the passanger side. After trying brown dog off roads motor bracket kit and it not fitting, I contacted them and they asked for the block number. Heard back shortly after and was informed it was a wj motor, and they had luckily made 2 wj/xj kits prior and hooked me up free of charge and donated the kit that didn't fit to wounded for warriors. Front axle was a d30 with power tax and teraflex steering I believe. Rear was a 8.8 with 4.10s on 35s and that was a dog.. I immediately put on some 33" Cooper stt after cramming the 35s into the fenders and and it began its journey of having mismatched color panels for the next 6 or 7 years. When H3resq was a member here we became friends, and when he went full width I was talked into buying his axles and suspension. So off went the Rubicon express long arm kit that was held on by a total of 6 bolts and 4 sketchy bubblegum stich welds. Install on the rock krawler 3link was a pain and took much longer than I planned. After I swapped in the Rubicon d44 up front and the mj 44 in the rear, it sat more.. I'll try adding some pics in somewhat order from new to current. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

I think reason46 lives in your area, he has a pretty sweet rig, twinsticks, armor and I think a LS swap was underway sometime last year. To bad his thread doesn't have pics since photobucket did their thing, you might be interested in reading it Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

There are quite a few mj's around here. Not everyone is into forums or listing all their vehicle specs for the world to see. Should leave a note with contact info next time if your interested in talking with the owner. Also, how's someone suppose to say who it is without a pic of the rig lol. A while back there were quite a few mj's for sale on Seattle Craigslist, 4 linked rears, 37s etc. Never saw them on the street or trail before or since. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

That's a pretty good pic. Do you play with light room or any other editing program? I'm amazed at what can be done, and I'm not even good with it. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

Got the tcase rebuilt. Apparently red rtv doesn't hold up to atf fluid, plugged the lube galleys in the main shafts and created a little wear on the drive sprockets. I did run it extremely low if not out of fluid a few years ago. Used a different case and guts I had, did the output bearings/seals and used some locktite 598 black with is compatible with atf. Fixed my 60+ mph vibration due to front output being being toast, but I still have a clicking noise while creeping. I figure it's driveshaft related since the inner part of the cv joint is bone dry and I only have 1 new grease able joint on it. I'll have to pull it and go for a drive before sinking more money into that stupid shaft.

I did the floor and rear cab. The tires only have 10k on them but they are 8 years old and I get a nasty howl around 40 mph, doesn't help I have phenomenal hearing. I end up wearing earplugs on pavement. Earlier this year when I rewired I put in a oem firewall mat and that helped my noise some more. I thought about some closed cell foam, really dense and thick, to put in the B pillars, but that phase passed once I began soddering wires. Found today that my tcase is about dead, very pronounced resonance you can feal, so maybe my tires aren't the culprit. I did run out of fluid a.few years ago lol Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

Butyl or asphalt based? After my fat mat fiasco I'll never do asphalt again. Also, if your bored look into sound deader showdown. He describes anything more than 25% coverage is a waste for what it's designed for. I ended up pulling my 100% fat mat cab and putting in some Norico 50mil and a layer on mass loaded vinyl. Helped a but I just need new tires. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

I put a set in mine, cheap speakers and had one driver door and one pass rear speaker most of the time. Put a new deck in, and a front component set, then some infinity kappa rears, pulled them back out and got my money back. Learned the rear speakers really don't do much, eventually I might put a small sub back there. Just some food for thought Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

So what do the gurus think of the cam? I know nothing of cams. Obviously has some wear. Maybe ran low on oil or never changed it? Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

Best tires for off and on-road?

I went from Cooper st maxx (nearly 70k mi) to the falken at3w, so far I miss my coopers. Went down 1 tire size and these are a harsh riding tire, perhaps the smaller sidewall plays a factor. I have 8k on them and they are starting to get noisy, wet weather takeoffs and fwy off ramps don't give me a warm fuzzy feeling, soft dirt was good but they love to throw rocks. I plan on giving them a few runs in the snow and if they still suck then cutting my losses and getting my cooper's again, plus my cooper's were USA made, these falkens are from thailand Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk -

Was bored on amazon last night and found these. Not that I know anything about tournaquets but it seemed like it'd do the job when I put it on my leg. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0713QFF2F?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_pd_title Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

Had to search your whole thread to find this again. Today I wired up my compressor to my rear defogger switch. I still need to get the locker to engage, preferably in the same switch and after reading what you did it seem like I'll have to swap the rear wiper switch over after attempting to mod it like you did. I may be bugging you for a little more insight in the future lol Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
