  2. Saw this online about a guy's new car's radio not working - Back at the dealership the salesman explained that all he had to do was talk to it, same as the BlueTooth function - It went something like "Dolly Parton" Radio said "What song?" "9 to five" & 925 started playing - "The Doors" Radio said "What song?" "Moon light Drive" & MLD started up - Fantastic! The guy started home playing every favorite song he could think of until he was nearly clobbered by another car running a red light. - - YOU IGNORANT SOB! He yelled - - - Radio said "We bring you this message from the president of the United . . . . ."
  3. Ought to be able to open from inside just as GOGMORGO said - - - 2 old school ways to thaw a frozen lock cylinder - - 1: Insert a key & hold a lighter/match under the key - - 2: Pi$$ upon it - - I have done number one many times - - - The usual common sense things apply to both, like keys without vinyl coverings for #1 & local laws forbidding public urination, indecency n such for #2 - - - U Don't want to end up on a sex offender list.
  4. This should be pinned - - - Worthwhile mod & has it all - Pics - How to - P/Ns - swap parts info - mod results

  10. Late one afternoon me & mrs brought our new 2 us 66 corvette home from a 3-4 week long bodyshop repaint - She drove vette & I followed - - A brake cylinder had started leaking & next to no brakes as she pulled into our garage - - Wonder of wonders she used parking brake to stop - Then back 2 normal: Didn't tell me - - - - Was now getting dark - didn;t fool with or drive further - Car looked fantastic at repair place - - Early next AM - Wonderful, warm, glorious, life is good type spring morning & Off to work - Fire up in N, watch gauges come alive & listen to rumble of factory side exhaust in our small garage - Release ebrake, noticed nothing wrong using slight brake pedal pressure- Put in R & idle out into alley then pull pwr glide selector into L - small amount throttle getting onto Moore street & nail it 4 a block r so - let low range pull it down alla time loving the sound of those side pipes - (pretty inconsiderate of neighbors/cops in my youth) - Quick side to side approaching Moore & 6th, run stop sign - floor it again & go roar[ng down 6th street - - - Now 6th & Moore is at the top of 6th street hill - Goiing East its topo is like letter J - 8 r 9 blocks Steep down then short up at a RR crossing - - - I will never forget that ride - - Went airborne at the tracks - landed flat - Amount of exploding interior dust/debris pancaking caused was an additional fright - - Nothing bad afterwards - Got stopped in a few blocks, calmed dwn & crept off a mile r so 2 work - Late model 66 with console p brake handle made 4 a quick right handed grab - probably made the diff in garage & slowing a little down hill after usual multiple stompings, in disbelief, of a 2 the floor, nichts, nada brake pedal - - - - Had everthing - pads, shoes, cylinders, lines, everything ('cepting wife) - replaced that weekend. . :MJ 2: .
  11. HOOF? Typo? H is next to the G - - - :hmm:
  12. That's a nice diagram in the previous post, but it has some problems such as there are no unused switch terminals & the Pass side switch is flat wrong - should be same as the others - - - - - The power window swap has been beaten to death here, on NAXJA & other sites - -Search turns up lotsa good info - Also lotsa BS - - - Anyway the addition of the regulators & switches is pretty straightforward & not hard - - I've done it twice on MJs & 10-12 times on Toyotas & a handful of others - - The wire harness config for a 2 door vehicle is simple - - I used a factory harness on my 87 & then made one for my 89 - home made was easier - I used copper 12 ga stranded speaker wire & a 30amp fuse - wired straight to battery cause that's what i wanted - - relay necessary if switched pwr would be desired - easy enuff to do either way - - - - - - - - Here's a couple drawings - - shows pin outs of switches used in 86-92 MJ/XJ - They're alla same & same switches are also used for the pwr locks - If you use the factory pigtail the #1 & 6 terminals will be jumpered - - center terms 3 & 4 are always the outputs - - Figures 3 to 9 show side view of switch lever/toggle position - Switches can not be put in backwards - they are the same up or down - - - - Fig 1 = Switch pin out - continuity between 2-4 & 3-5 Fig 2 = Terms 1 & 6 jumpered if using factory pigtail Fig s 3 & 4 shows switch at rest - switch lever centered - both motor terms/center terms to ground - I used a chasis ground on the door - Fig 5 = Switch lever up shows + to one motor connection - neg to other - - - motor turns in one direction Fig 6 = Lever down - Redundant - shows motor direction reversed Figs 7, 8 & 9 - Upper six terms are the drivers side switch for control of the pass window - Lower set of six are the pass door window switch - - - The 2 wires a-b & c-d run from DS switch to PS switch from the doors to under the dash, carpet or whatever Fig 7 shows Drivers side pass window switch config at rest - Output terms A & C flow neg/grnd to terms b & d of the pass door switch No additional ground necessary Fig 8 = pass window operation from driver side switch - - A makes with + & power flows across cab to B & mtr runs in one direction - Lever down & C makes with D & of course the mtr direction is reversed Fig 9 = pass window operation from pass side switch, lever up - - left center term makes with + & mtr runs one way lever down - right center term makes with + & the green grass grows all around - pretty simple :wrench:
  13. Nice - Should be pinned in every forum
  14. When/where was the last mech inspection done? I doubt everything wore out all at once. All too common to bounce from one rip off to another anymore. "Win some, loose some" seems to have been replaced with "Gotta take the bitter with the sour" "What a revolting development this is". . . . .Chester A. Riley
  15. Here's a FSM 4 a 88 XJ - windows/locks schem is page 7 sec 24-27 & a-c http://comancheclub.com/topic/11875-renix-factory-service-manual/ Shows 2 relays for locks - seems clumsy to me but might be necessary if equip wi keyless remote - - - windows shows no relay - ignoring ever thing but DS front & PS front - can be seen how switches control motors - pwr for PS flows through lock out switch but still can/will work from DS switch Can't see any one thing could cause PS window inop & lock prob at same time :hmm:
  16. Well, I was hoping this would b a 1st this & then that thing - - - - - It's been 5yr since I bought PW PL factory everything from a 2 door XJ 4 my since sold 87 - - Can't find my FSM - #1 son usual culprit - - Anyway, IIRC lock relay was behind PS kickplate & windows relay was below r 2 the side of under dash fuse panel - - - - - - I'm stumped - the locks & windows have a common power source - each door but aren't dependent upon each other - That some functions work rules out power prob - - PS window not working from either door rules out switch probs - - only thing left is a relay? - - - - - Locks are about the same - Isn't pwr - is not switches - is a polarity switching prob & points to a relay - - - Dunno - Made my own harness 4 my 89 so no help there - - If worse comes to worse it won't be hard to make your stuff functional bypassing the factory relays
  17. Sounds like factory install - PO could've done door swap but not likely given how easy to go the retro route - - Anyway, the switches were bypassed when 12v applied - correct? This points to relay prob - - - - Did locks & win act up at same time?
  18. Are U sure the PW PLs are Factory? Pics always help DS window works OK - PS work from master? PS work from PS door switch? Locks do not unlock from either switch? WHAT works OK wired to the battery? Both windows? Both locks? The setup is simple - Easy to troubleshoot - The door panels probably do not need 2 b removed - can check electrical by loosening the bottom only The multiple relays are for Lawyer concerns only & not necessary but 1st have to know what works/doesn't work & from what positions to troubleshoot - :wrench:
  19. I used a map torch couple yr ago on my 89 - Don't recall what used on the 87 but pretty sure was the same since the map is 1 of my most used household/shop tools - that & the fire extinguisher - Anyway, doesn't take much using a torch - half sec or so - Never popped one off - used pliers & twisting motion - Heat seems to take it out of whatever factory adhesive was used - Just figured it was similar to super glue & SG, like silicone is hell fer stout unless you twist it - - Just for the heck of it you might try twisting on yours sans heat - I removed a mirror from a dodge rampage once - It had been ina JY for a long time & the UV degradation must of been up there - gave it a twist & pop - - - I wouldn't worry too much about the delam thing - the vinyl has an expansion coefficient as near identical to the glass as can b made & without an air pathway not likely - more likely of a prob would be tiny, I mean small, nonhomogeneous piece of junk in the glass - Neither is likely but it could happen with lotsa heat - The most interesting man in the world said Heat carefully my friend :crossfingers:
  20. Search is a good tool - - - Google search is a better easier faster tool - - - Try it - - site:comancheclub.com tac - - Here is the #2 find http://comancheclub.com/topic/25241-87-25-tac-sensor/ Nice, huh?
  21. Your gonna like it here - lotsa help & SEARCH isa good tool - - Google search is better easier faster for CC info - - Enter SITE:COMANCHECLUB.COM & WHATEVER SEARCH ITEM/TOPIC - - Not case sensitive but all one word - site:comancheclub.com - - - - Jessica's a nice sounding name 4 a truck - Not one of the all to common manly types now in vogue - - - Not well known but all MJs are named - AMC Coded - embedded in the vin - Yrs 86-92 translates to LILLITH, IIRC - - - - Back 2 serious - do you have 97+ door panels as well as the dash? Going back to original dash may be more of a pain than rewire - Dunno, never did either - - Anyway, good luck & Pics are plus when getting help. :wrench:
  22. 23. I would not do this - - Not the outside part - - Inside - torch on the button for a sec & it will release - - I have done this many times over the years - - Am a retired glassworker & have many yrs knowledge of automotive glass - - Windshields are heat strengthened glass laminates - 1 pc vinyl sandwiched between 2 pcs glass - Trouble not guaranteed but asking for it going after adhesive from opposite side - Memento Murphy's Law - - - Given the age of your/our MJ & XJs I doubt if it has the original windshield - If it does or has an OEM PPG replacement odds are I supervised production of the glass - Fabrication would have been in Pennsylvania or Ohio - Not germain just sayin' I know automotive glass - - - - - - - I've used the Gentex mirrors with HomeLink, compass & map light for some time now - Don't recall the early model numbers but the newer/latest versions are gtx45 gtx50 or similar - - Had one put on the Mrs new minivan by dealer last year & they used an unswitched pwr source - No biggie since it's always garaged, but still - Memento Murphy's Law - - - - Before removing the button I use a crayon r sharpie to mark original location onna outside 4 a ref point - - - gonna be some residue spread around upon removal - not usually noticeable from a head on but more visible as viewing angle decreases esp from outside - usual pita whatever solvent works cleaning required - - - Adhesive for install gotta be UV resistant - I've had zero probs using permatex brand - - good luck
