danbyrambler replied to 91Pioneer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
How Does Part #8 Work Exactly? Hey! How exactly is a rainbow made? How exactly does a sun set? How exactly does a posi-trac rear-end on a Plymouth work? It just does. Sorry - Couldn't resist - Reminded me of some JD stuff Anyway, I think you may be missing a part or two - - Here's a vac diagram lifted from Cruiser's tech pics in DIY - page 4, pic #85 http://www.cherokeeforum.com/members/cruiser54-42565/albums/jeep-technical-photos/102110-vacuum-diagram-4-0-renix/ . :MJ 1: . -
Save your $ for awhile - - Fast & dirty check to start - When you turn on the AC does the compressor turn/run? - - If it runs that's a pretty good indication that the system is charged & just low on freon - - If it doesn't turn, then jump the low pressure switch - If it now turns then the system is empty/too low to cool - If does not run then other probs; clutch, compressor, electrical & on n on - - - AC gets tons of what's wrong alla time, esp spring/summer - - Fortunately, tons of help here on CC - - - Come back with a little more info & use search to mine gobs of info: questions/solutions/help/how to , , , Google search is great - - site:comancheclub.com keyword/keywords - - - examples - site:comancheclub.com ac not working - - ac problems - - https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=site%3Acomancheclub.com+AC+not+working https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=site%3Acomancheclub.com+AC+problems

danbyrambler replied to zfinger's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The switch I used on my 87 was an Airtex 1s4346 - 3/8NPT - single wire - closes 218 F plus/minus 8 - opens 213 F - - - Used it to trigger a relay - - worked fine - -IIRC it actually made at 220/222 & opened around 208/210 according to my IR laser gun - Had to shield the t stat housing wi a piece of cardboard to get readings when fan running -

Turning On A/c Kills Engine
danbyrambler replied to bongobill's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
:agree: & way too little info - Engine? Factory air? Dies on either AC or Max? On defrost? At idle or driving? Blower speed or temp settings make a dif? More to the AC than the comp & its clutch - - No engine running means no AC; Is AC charged? Hj/Low press switches OK? Vacuum OK? (Wouldn't think vac part of AC selection would cause shut down, much less a sudden one) - - Aux fan OK? Even when engine does the sudden thing the aux fan should have come on immediately upon AC selection & will freewheel 4a short time, engine or no- easy enuff to ck - Fast & dirty wi no AC - idle with Blocked rad - Aux fan come on at specked temp? What temp? Dunno What engine/sensor he's got - - Hard to believe a bonafide Chrysler/Jeep dealer would give up easily, much less pass onna chance to push/sell parts - Go to another shop for a 2nd opinion? - - - - "Apparently a short"- - Huh? Dunno who's terminology/opinion & generally "shorts" blow fuses/trip breakers/melt things & other probs easy enough to track down, esp for a dealership - Sounds more like ground prob - - Anyway, I'd start with AC system - easy to ck 1st & troubleshoot components one by one - Comp, clutch, fan, fan relay . . . . -

"Yeah The Who is some good rock for sure!" Squeeze Box isn't bad Country either My favorite place to stop by 1r2 times a week is mostly redneck wi some biker wanna bees thrown in - - New/pseudo Country blaring from the high tech box doesn't get it - - - Some Tull or The Doors - Such as Locomotive breath-L A Woman-Moonlight Drive - Usually gets things goin' - - Then something like Hank Snows cover of Millers Cave r A fool such as I - Hank r Elvis - calms it down - - Most of 'em know who Hank Sr & Jr are, but Thompson or Snow? Nah, ditto for Ferlin Huskey-Faron Young-LeRoy VanDyke-Cowboy Copas-Jim Reeves - - Unreal - Even the great stuff from the 80's is seldom heard - They all know the movie songs/themes like EB&D or EWWBL, but play sometnin' like Roll on Big Momma r You're the reason God made Oaklahoma & it's like "Wow, who dat?" - - - - The new boxes are great, but You can go through it at @ $2 a pop for the internet search songs - - Oh, well . . S'all fun

Broken Stabilizer Bar
danbyrambler replied to USAFAGumby's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Posted Today, 08:59 AM The issue is not in normal driving. The issue is that the manufacturer put that sway bar there for a reason. It's lack would show up if you ever had to make a sudden evasive maneuver, such as a sharp swerve if a child ran out into the street right in front of you. A complete replacement link is $16 at Advanced Auto. Are you really going to risk totaling your truck for $16? http://shop.advancea...ay bar link kit DITTO Above & This I know; you don't wanna have to stand on your brakes at anything close to highway speeds - - - Use discount code TRT30 if you shop advance - 30% off & they'll have it waiting - - - Other discount stuff for autoPepRockO'riley at http://www.retailmenot.com -
Replacing Windshield
danbyrambler replied to ftpiercecracker1's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I wouldn't worry about the glass quality - The basic mfg process hasn't changed much inna past half century or so but the inspection/Quality control methods sure have & for the good - Ditto for cutting/bending/tempering - - - If something has gone towards the neg it's the thinner glass thickness - courtesy of our fed government's regs - - - Anyway, There'll be a logo somewhere on the windshield - usually lower onna DS or PS but could be lower center - - If it contains "Guardian" then US made & prob US made glass - If it says "ASAHI" then mfg in Mexico - Huge twin unit facility just across the border from Brownsville, TX - Asahi Optical-Japan - constructed no sooner'n the ink was dry onna NAFTA - Pretty much wiped out the whole US SouthWest flat glass market - - Anything else is prob Chinese - - If the word SOLEX is there then it's PPG & a NOS piece since PPG's been outta the aftermarket business for some time now & much longer for OEM fabricating & Ditto for Chrysler McGraw logo - - - Look through the glass after the install - from Driver seat & passenger seat - Through it, not at it - Look at the vertical lines of a building or similar object with sharp vertical borders - - Move your head around so that you scan the most used portion of the WS alla time watching the distant image borders/lines - - Any imperfection will show up as a distortion of the backgrounds imagery - - Don't worry so much about Horizontal - Unlikely a prob given an MJ WS's viewing angle & raw glass orientation during the mfg process. - - If you should find something then it's your call as to wether it's objectionable - Imperfections inna inch-inch anna half border area on the edges are common & usually within mfg spec - Central viewing area it's basically defect free, but will be up to you - acceptable or no. -
Pics 2&3 show what I did based onna thread/post from NAXJA, PIRATE, maybe here on CC, somewhere - Not an original Idea, Just seemed like a good one to me Firewall ground stuff https://www.google.com/webhp?rct=j#q=site:comancheclub.com+firewall+ground+strap https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=site:naxja.org+firewall+ground+strap

Seems I was less than clear - - Didn't realize it was necessary to point out that the best/easiest use of a rewards card is for stuff you are going to spend money on anyway - Gasoline - Food - Insurance - Tuition Not advocating using a card to run up a BA debt & then make payments - - Keep it simple - just the $ you'll have to spend anyway - - Gonna spend $500 total inna next 3 months on Gas, Food, Insurance, Phone, Cable? - Chase Bank's offering $200 - - Too weak to resist the temptation of an evil credit card? Is that what's bothering you, Bunky? Then don't - Duh! I use 3 cards - Chase/5% back on Gas - AmEx/3% back at supermarkets - CapOne/1.5% onna everything else - Money back autoed as account credit - Account balances PIF each month autoed from my checking account - - pretty simple game plan - - You'll spend more time here searching for a DW cure than managing a card or 2 online. See Y'all at the next stockholders meeting

Been seeing mention of tight budgets here on CC for awhile - - - This might help some If you have a credit score somewhere around 650 & up it's worth looking at the cash back offerings at http://www.creditcards.com/cash-back.php Chase Freedom for example will give you $200 for opening an account & an extra $25 if you later add an authorized user, like the Mrs or whomever The hook is you've gotta use it $500 worth inna 1st 3 months - That's all - - Don't have to have a balance oweing - Just use it 500 bucks worth - Gas-Groceries-Insurance-cable-phone-Whatever you're gonna spend anyway - - Not a scam & Chase has bonus 5% back on Gas July-Sept & Jan-Mar BOA - Capital One - Citi & AmEx Everyday all have offers With a $500/1st 3month use excepting AmEx which is $1000 - AmEx has 3% back at supermarkets alla time-BOA 3% back for gas alla time - Cap1 1.5% back everywhere & free credit score report every time you log on - Discover also has this feature but has recently dropped their bonus for opening an account A little free money - If you've already one of these cards you can open a new account in the Mrs name, for example, then close the existing when you get the new card Hope this is useful

Nice interior - Clean & not torn up always makes things easier on mods/upgrades/restores Your alternator - - - A trip to AutoVancePepRileys should be easy enough to take advantage of their free alternator/battery testing Fast & dirty test with a voltmeter across battery terms - - 14.25 or so wi engine running These Jeeps are ground happy - - - I'm sure you know about the firewall main ground & potential probs over time - - - JIC here's a pic of FW location - - Another site, NAXJA I think, is where the recomend for the other 2 grounds came from - - Wasn't a fix or anything, just a precaution - - - There is no such thing as "too much ground" :smart:
