right side wheels rubbing brake hose and rear cable
Wildman replied to ratrapp's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If your running OEM Jeep rims, they should be 5-1/4" back set. Your parking brake cable, there should be a spring to the frame that holds it out of the way. The front brake line, you might need to bend the line a little to make it clear. -
I know, I know...........the one that's about 3/4" shorter in height is the old one  (Do I win the pine tree air freshener?????) Torque for the mount........just tighten until it's tight, and then give it another pull.....but, don't break it off  A little blue loc-tite would not hurt on the bolts either ;) Oh, and what you were asking......... It's in the '89 service manual supplement ( I knew that book would be handy ) Cross member to frame bolts - 30 ft-lbs. transmission to rear support bolts/nuts 33 ft-lbs.

Where to buy these parts?
Wildman replied to shelbyluvv's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The 'washer' that holds the electrical wires is just a 3/8" spring nut, pressed on, any good hardware store should have that, and don't forget to replace the o-ring under that connector ;) That rubber bushing......... :hmm: ........I'm sure something else could be used from a hardware store :dunno: I know 2 hardware stores near me have the isle with the 50 thousand little slide out parts bins for all the odd and ends stuff. No, not the 'big box' stores  Don, I looked on my parts manual, and the sending unit is one, and the fuel pump in one, no separate part number for that bushing. -
T-valve for airbag helper kit
Wildman replied to socal1200r's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I know what your think on this, but the problem with making one source for filling the air bags is that when you do that, say, going around a curve, the air from one bag will shift to the other bag, making the pressure 'unbalanced' That's why there is a separate fill for each bag, to keep the pressure to that one bag stable, on each side. If you have a sizable load on the truck, when the truck is sitting on unequal ground, the lower side will have less support (pressure) and the high side will be over pressurized. -
When you say "it wouldn't change gears" Just what do you mean :hmm: It does not shift from 1st to 2nd or what??? It could be a problem with the solenoids in the AW4, common problem, and easy fix. Take some time and read thru this article - http://www.transonline.com/transdigest/ ... index.html If you need some parts, PM me, I have some solenoids out of the AW4 and couple TCU. Yea, I strip down the 2wd AW4's before the cores go out  JT had this problem last year, and found a dead solenoid after the tests, changed them out, and was back up running :D But note.......it's also the time to change the fluid and filter too, cause you need to drop the pan ;)

That's all that it's worth to me. Man, I can think of better things to spend my $$ on than a promo sales coin. Actually...........there not a promo thing, they were handed out to all the workers/management at the Toledo plant on July 1, 1985, the first day the MJ went into production :D So, there is some "sentimental" value to the coins  Only for the Comanche addict crowd

The Renix has the 3 notches in the flywheel for the CPS, with 20 teeth between notches.
-
Ya, dido.......I don't get more than 15 cable channels..........so I don't get all the fancy cable programs :(
-
That part number don't sound right :hmm: You should have - 4.0 - '87-88 = Manual #5409 - Auto #5406 4.0 - '89-90 = Manual #5429 - Auto #5428 That's the last 4 numbers on the label (IE: 5400-5428) But your starting off with 5300 XXXX What's this on??? What year???
-
That started last week, and went with out a bid, and this is the 're-list' of that coin. Agree......he's asking too much, and I thought when he re-listed it, he would drop the opening bid......not so :shake: It took me a couple of auctions, but I don't think I paid more than $24 for mine last year. and shipping was only a couple bucks. Hold out, he'll either drop the price, or another one will come along :D

I thought you had it up and running.......with a newer engine :hmm:

Yea, the MJ and XJ are very similar, and the wiring is negative switched ;) There was a option for the lighted vanity visors, I have a '90 that has them. But there is not a wire up in the headliner for this. There is a wire behind the drivers side B-trim for the cargo light that you'll find in every MJ. If you going to be pulling the B-trim for the headliner replacement, the don't mess with the dome light now, just pop them out when you can get to the back side of them :brows: And how you find time at work to be in here :hmm: I don't even find time at home at night to be in here :ack: :teehee:

The back up light switch is on the drivers side, not the top of the BA 10 and this is from Rockauto.com STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS Part # LS316 More Info w/ Split Case; 2 Post Term. $14.36

 I know my sister would love to see me with the plow.......not that she wants to shove snow 2 weeks in a row :rotf: That's what she moved down there for......to get away from the snow :rotfl2:

1st........one of the Rules here is........There are no stupid questions  2nd.........Welcome to the Madness :ack: This topic might give you a little better idea on how to "repair" the dome lights - viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7512&hilit=dome+lights And, another one - viewtopic.php?f=2&t=13964 If your floor lights are coming on, your in good shape, that means the door switch are working correctly :D Yes, you need a small flat screwdriver to push back the tabs that hold the lights in B-column trim.
-
You have the perfect donor with that '90 XJ for this project  Reason is, it's still a Renix era electrics. You should not have to cut any wires, it's all plug and play with the connectors. The only thing you'll need from the AW4 is the wire harness and the TCU. That covers your electrical side of the conversion :D You'll need the other items for the conversion, Check out this link, and it should walk you thru everything you'll need to do - viewtopic.php?f=9&t=12206 There are other topics on this, but that one really spells out everything you need to change out.

Tail light problems keeping me off the road!!
Wildman replied to godchsr's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
:agree: Also.....check the bulbs in the rear tail lights, they could be installed wrong in the sockets, and make sure there 1157 bulbs. Other wise, you'll need to re-wire the rear harness, it's not that hard to do, and the OEM crimps on the wires go bad, and cause problems. That harness can be pulled out, and done on a workbench. -

4WD indicator light after locking CAD?
Wildman replied to 1987Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If the cover has RTV sealant, then it's been open before, OEM would be a 'paper' gasket. Some people just don't want to spend the $3.25 for a new gasket  The D30 only calls for 2.5 pints of 75W-90 gear oil, That's just a little more than one quart, so.....you could have over filled it by adding 2 quarts :hmm: -
Hmm............Seams like Richmond is getting more snow that Buffalo this year :hmm: Well....You can have it  Yea, I know someone else that moved down that way to escaped the snow shoveling duty........ :rotf: (Yup, she shoveled 3 times on Saturday :teehee: ) Looks like you door bottom sweep needs a little adjustment ;)

Same part # for 90/91/92...and 87/88, which makes be think they might not be selling the right thing That is the correct tranny mount you need for your AX15  Rockauto has it mixed up, and only lists that one mount..........because some tool ordered one before and it was for the AW4 or AX15, not for the BA 10. Oh......and I got a refund on it  SW.......Your going to have the bottom of your truck steam cleaned and chemically treated before you change that mount out, so you don't get a smug on your white gloves. :teehee:

4WD indicator light after locking CAD?
Wildman replied to 1987Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It's not uncommon to find water in the front D30 axle, the end seals are not the best, and if you overfill the differential, the gear oil will seep out of the drivers side  (this I learned) It wouldn't hurt at all to change that oil some time soon if you have no idea how long it's been in there. Glad you got the right color vacuum line........I just couldn't remember which one it was :hmm: Yea, I would think it might take a minute for the light to go off, because the vacuum has to bleed out of the switch, now that you have it hooked up direct.
