Actually, adding another main leaf won't make it that much stiffer at all. What makes an AAL stiff is when the AAL has a higher spring rate than the rest of the pack. If you use an MJ main as an AAL, it has the same spring rate and will be rather soft. I have done it, and noticed a 1"-2" lift in the rear with no adverse effects to the ride quality.

Another one of the several thousand reasons why I would never live in CA. :D Glad you passed the test though. Believe it or not, Massachusetts is doing away with emitions on vehicles 1995 and older! I'm so excited. None of the vehicles I own are older than 1995. I know my MJ would FAIL an inspection :(

I'd like to emphasize this step! I've had more than a few needle bearings fall flat onto the cap, and in my enraged state of fury I've crushed them into a million pieces. Most come with a little grease already in there (you can see in Jeff's pics) so they should stay in place. Just take it slow! Nice write-up Jeff!

I just used a set of ramps to get the front of the XJ off the ground, and a floor jack. Took me a couple hours with water breaks, but it wasnt that bad. 8)

I do this also! I only have about 140, but its still quite a bit! The funny thing is that I'm not 21 yet.....

Is this a request for certain "services" ;)

I hope LEAD doesnt mind if I add this to his thread. I took it a step further and made the whole transmission shiftable with switches. Just to add to this thread, I did this in my MJ. I couldnt get the computer to shift the stupid thing....so I made my own set of switches. I really wanted BrettM's control box, but it was too espensive. I think I have $15 into this, for wire, and switches. Here is a wiring diagram, which I drew up in MS Paint. The first pic looks much more confusing than the diagram, because I had to add power to the switches, which light up. The blue one is solenoid 1, and the red is solenoid 2. The metal 3 pole switch locks and unlocks the torque converter (and the little green light goes on when it is locked). This works great for me. There is no gear "hunting" on the highway, because the tranny isnt shifting its self.

Not sure if this would fit in here...but I use this page very frequently. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=89273 Thanks for the awesome page Watson!

Thats Jeepco's place, right?

I love mine! I can't even hear them now, and they lock up every time. I've got maybe 500 miles on them with no breaks. They do have a 2 year warranty, and as long as everything was within spec when installed...there shouldn't be a problem. Best $500 I've ever spent!!

Well we spent the day picking up both MJs. The good MJ is in fantastic shape! The only rust is a small patch of surface rust on the cab corner. Underside looks great! And it has the D44 rear axle, factory front tow hooks, a rear hitch, and a front skid plate. The parts truck is a mess...complete rust bucket. We can use the transmission, and the rear axle though. All in all it was a great purchase!

I want to start simple. 5.13s, spool, kingpin rebuild, hub rebuild, some form of hi-steer. I'll run 38s to start. I don't have a lead foot, so I think that the shafts will last me a while. I'll get alloys at some point though. I also have a 14 bolt rear which will also get 5.13s and a detroit. Before anything, I need to plate the MJ frame with angle iron. I also want to beef up the tracbar and steering box area. I expect to have these under the MJ in a year or two. 8)

The problem is you are running contol arms for a 4.5" lift. If you had adjustables you would be in better shape. I think that in your case, drop brackets would be a benefit (if you don't plan on getting long arms any time soon).

CW has a set, and has the install pictures in his build-up thread.

I'm Tim. :waving: :clapping:

1979 high pinion Dana 60 from a Ford F250 Snowfighter. Well I purchased it this morning. It's going to go great with that 14 bolt that I purchased this fall.

You can also add shims behind the LCA mount on the "frame." Look for a thread started by JEEPERZ, as CW posted many helpful pictures. What exactly are your lift components? 6.5" lift...how about control arms? Adjustable uppers and lowers, or neither?

It's a sticky. :D :fool: I always overlook stickies too :D

That was awesome! Eagle, can you take the game into CompUSA (or another store that sells computers) and try it in a more modern system there? I'm sure if you tell them that you are not sure if the game is the issue, or if it is your computer, they will let you throw the CD into the drive for 3 seconds. Good luck!

I think that I'll stick with some 37s to 38s with this axle. I'll only upgrade when I break (I drive like an old person). I just called the seller, and it looks like I can pick it up tomorrow for $650 I'm quite ecstatic.

Oh definately. I saw a post on Pirate where the upper kingpin had stripped the threads on the inner C, and they guy had to get new ones from Dedenbear. I'm just worying about that. I plan to re-build it completely with new bearings/seals. I just don't want to have to spend $500 for inner Cs or knuckles (at least not now). I think I'll give the seller a ringy ding tomorrow to see about picking it up. Thanks guys.

So I had a lead on a pair of 1978 Ford D60s but that fell through because the front was bent. I have since aquired a rear FF14b, but am still lacking a front axle. I found a 1979 F250 front D60 on craigslist for $750, and the seller said that the price is negotiable. Here is the email that the seller sent me; I know there are a few people in here who know much more than me when it comes to 1 tons. Suggestions/comments/recomendations?

This happened about a week ago. It took about 90 mins total for the trucks to arrive, and leave with the Rover. Everyone was ok. You can see our barn roof in the background. You can also see my Cherokee in a few pictures. :D I also forgot to mention that someone is stuck in that driveway at this VERY moment. People seem to enjoy driving off the side of the road. The people stuck now aren't in the water, but they are in a small ditch  I should start to charge for recoverys :D

My MJ came with a tranny cooler, and a D44 rear. But it still has the 3 leaf + overload leaf spring pack. :dunno:
