  1. As I learned on the farm, "we don't fix things that work."
  2. I'm a Civil Engineer and I discovered today that one of my reference books has drawings of Jeeps in it! 21 slot grille and everything. They are XJs, but close enough.
  3. I like the color too. Haven't owned a blue one before. The paint looks great from 20 feet... There is one tear in the driver seat that we hope to mend, otherwise the interior is really good.
  4. I like this thinking.
  5. As I understand it, the engine is supposed to run at 215 degrees and the electric fan is supposed to come on at 210 degrees. Sounds like 220 isn't outrageously high, but your e-fan should be kicking on.
  6. I guess we can aspire to be this guy, "How A Tennessee Man Amassed The World’s Largest Junkyard Of Jeep Cherokee XJs" https://www.theautopian.com/how-a-tennessee-man-amassed-the-worlds-largest-junkyard-of-jeep-cherokee-xjs/
  7. Good eye! Yes, it's like this one beat up two other XJs and stole their roof rack cross bars.
  8. How many Jeeps are too many? Asking for a friend... We have five at the house now. They keep following us home like lost puppy dogs. The Mrs. is thinking this may become her around town car, which sounds good as it's a reason to keep it!
  9. That's what we've done too. I asked the glass installer to give me back the metal trim, but no regrets with the rubber seal. Don't have to worry about it flying off or coming off in a car wash.
  10. I've done exactly this before. Certainly something to consider. I had to "buy" the vehicle back, which meant the insurance company subtracted $400 from what they were going to pay me.
  11. Son started working at O'Reilly's a few months ago so we've leaned full into that one. His employee discount is VERY nice. The discount varies by part, but is usually around 40% off. With the employee discount the prices are similar to Amazon or Rock Auto, where we were previously buying our parts. Finding parts in stock is now the challenge. Sometimes it's still faster and easier to buy online. Prior to his job at O'Reilly's we would tend toward NAPA.
  12. Did a few mods to the front end. Added a front mounted hitch and a chrome bumper. Both components were used, but match the truck well enough. The challenge of buying used was that we didn't have the spacers and brackets needed for the installations, but after some fab we got there. Before: After. Have to pay attention to catch the front hitch. I'm now kicking myself for not picking up the chrome bull bar I saw on Marketplace a couple years back. The 2 door XJ also got a grille guard. Fabricated new brackets from scratch based on factory tow hook brackets from our 4 door XJ.
  13. So sorry to hear that!
  14. Yes! Ship with some assembly required (i.e. welding, painting)?
  15. I think you definitely need to convert that note pad to a write up!
  16. A project that someone started, but didn't finish. The MJ body looks pretty good. https://www.facebook.com/share/1ArwWdRRtP/
  17. That's really cool! How compatible is this with other years? Is this the infrared system like what came from the factory on my 95 XJ or something different?
  18. Agreed. I did ask about the dash since we have a dark blue interior with cracked dash. The dash does have some cracks. Here are the photos I was sent.
  19. Been in contact with this guy. Still some parts left and he is willing to ship. Plans to scrap it in mid-August. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1646847576030585/?referralSurface=messenger_lightspeed_banner&referralCode=messenger_banner
  20. For what it's worth, my 2-door XJ was rear ended a few months ago. Worried about my XJ being totaled so I told the guy that ran into me that I could go through his insurance or we could settle for cash. At first he said insurance, but he called me later and asked me to get a cash price. I've got a contact at an autobody shop that is willing to operate in cash after hours and he was willing to straighten the frame, paint the rear bumper, and some misc. odds and ends for $750 cash and my son picked up a new to us bumper at the junk yard. I asked the guy that hit me for $850 to get the vehicle fixed, buy the bumper, and pay for my urgent care bill. He agreed and we took care of it with a cash transaction. Never involved insurance at all. Was a LOT cheaper for everyone involved. The XJ is back to as good as it was prior to the crash (it had already been rear ended before For some reason that XJ is a crash magnet).
  21. The power window regulator on the driver's door of our '96 XJ seemed to have issues. When rolling it up the regulator slows and makes a click every inch or so of travel. Bought a different one out of a '90 XJ that was being parted. Now that we've got it apart, I hope we are doing the right thing. The regulator out of the parted XJ has a different motor and therefore different connection. Looks straightforward enough to swap those assuming the motor that I removed wasn't the issue. Need to drill some rivets and it should be a straight swap. We plan to hook everything up and test it outside the door before we put anything back in the door. I wish I could reuse the brackets from the '96 because they are threaded rather than riveted to the door like the '90, but it looks like more trouble than it's worth to try to swap them. Are we doing the right thing? Is a clicking window the regulator and not the motor? The '96 regulator is the shiny one in the photos and the duller one is the '90 regulator.
  22. It's moved a long way from it's Ebay listing in Idaho in 2020!
  23. I'll vote for "like it!"
  24. Are you allowed to say that here?
