  1. I concur, the interior pieces should be the same.
  2. The Junk Yard. Our Comanche isn't the nicest and we didn't pay a lot for it, so we have a rule, the parts can't cost more than the vehicle. Recently had a fuel injector go bad so we pulled some out of a Renix XJ in the junk yard and chuckled when we found they were Ford injectors. So ours is presumably the 3rd vehicle (Mustang/Crown Vic. etc. XJ, our MJ) those injectors have been in. But if you want something not used, take a look at the sources I went to in the link below.
  3. This is a good heads up. We didn't know these were E-torx (thought it was just hex) and rounded the head off. That was 'fun.' Replace the bolts with hex heads when you put them back. Also make sure you unplug the CPS and make sure the plug is not snagged on anything in the engine bay... With this said, removing the oil pan is A LOT easier when the transmission is out...
  4. Had a relapse. Still feeding the addiction... After selling the blue automatic above, the Mrs. mentioned how she didn't drive the Jeeps because she doesn't particularly like driving stick around town and that I had sold the automatic we did have to a neighbor. My ears perked up at this and understood that I had tacit permission to buy another one. Found a '97 2wd automatic. Basically the opposite of the features I normally look for (manual, 4x4), but Uncle Tony's Garage convinced me to give the 2wd a try again (owned one from '06-'09). This is intended to be the around town, mom Jeep after all. Country trim (which is nice), extremely clean interior, 181K miles on the 4.0L, some blemishes on the exterior, but not bad for 29 years old. The Mrs. likes it! Back to needing to sell 1-2 Jeeps... Already ordered the 12x7 USA flag magnet that's going over the clear coat blemish on the tailgate. America! 2 of the tires on it were garbage so swapped them out with some old ones I had in the family "tire shop." The spoke wheels look good on it and the old tires will be good enough for around town for now. While changing the tires, I noticed that the bump stops were... kinda not there anymore. That's the biggest issue so far. In other news, I'm not particularly thrilled with what the neighbors have done to "my" previously owned blue Cherokee. But the good news is I get the stuff they take off. I'm going to put the front fender flares on the Comanche.
  5. Just the axles and springs in the bed made it ride that low? Wow!
  6. Those are pretty small tires. We usually run 235/75/15 on MJ and XJ. I can't imagine you'll see any difference with 215/70/15 over 205/70/15. You can likely go larger without real noticeable difference in performance. Given how little you drive it, I'd look for used tires. Can find used tires for 1/3 the price of new. I've gone to buying used tires for all of my vehicles... When shopping for used, it's likely easier to find 235/75/15 used than 215/70/15 or 205/70/15, but keep your eye out for any 4 matching 15" tires...
  7. Looks like it grew fender flares when you painted it. Good looking Comanche!
  8. Got ya. It's been a minute since we did this delete, but I guess you could leave the EGR tube. Found this diagram in an earlier post.
  9. We took it all off. We didn't use a "kit" we just made our own.
  10. Guess I hadn't realized the Renix and HO exhaust manifolds were so different, but now that you mention it...
  11. Those look the same as the rear wiper on an 84-96 XJ. Yes, a pain indeed. I've had those tabs come off and the wiper arm seems to stay on fine with the spline friction. You'll like the '97+ XJ wiper arms better.
  12. Should have foreseen this, but didn't. The lightweight fabric on the back of the bench will be too flimsy to hold up to passengers in the back seat. The fact that it's there at all is a small miracle (the fabric is missing from the back of our MJ's bench). Will need to figure out something different. A cover is the easy solution. Removing the cover and sewing in a more durable material is a better solution. But hate to put a lot of money into a bench that was free in a configuration that I may or may not want to ultimately keep. Will probably see if the concept works first and then work out the back covering if we decide to keep it.
  13. And as an Arizona expatriate, I appreciate the desert photos!
  14. Congratulations on your new purchase!
  15. Break the cap off and get a new one? And that gas is certainly bad. Our Comanche had been sitting for at least 5 years when we got it and the gas was orange and smelled quite bad. I still remember how quickly my oldest son moved when seeking relief from the mouthful he got when siphoning.
  16. Like I said, I was shocked when I picked it up! The upholstery looks a lot better after a thorough scrubbing and drying in the sun today. Have more scrubbing to do on the vinyl.
  17. Saw the bench for the first time when picking it up this morning. To my great surprise, the bench has headrests! Need to clean it up...
  18. Anyone have one of those laying around?
  19. Have had that thought too. If this gets too complicated, then not worth it and the bench will become a couch in the garage.
  20. The MJ has a bench. And you are right, three across is not the most comfortable, but not terrible if the two passengers up front are little (like my 4 and 3 year olds). Only driver air bag so at least some of the concerns about kids in the front goes away...
  21. Have a guy locally that wants to give us his gray bench out of his Comanche. This has got me thinking about a crazy idea of putting it in our red '96 XJ as a front seat. I've previously noted that I have a handicapped daughter that can't sit in the front seat (because she grabs stuff) and can't sit too close to anyone in the back seat (because she grabs stuff). A bench seat in the front would mean we can put three in the front and give her more space in the back seat. There are some pros and cons of course, and here are some that I see: Pros: Get three seats across the front (will need to get a middle seatbelt) - makes the XJ a 6-seat vehicle Should bolt right up (except conflict with hand brake) The bench is free! Cons: No head and neck support from the bench Lose the center console and air to the back seat Conflict with hand brake?
  22. I've always wanted one of these. Wild that there are still WWII Jeeps still in a crate! (Edit: I just read the fine print, "These are new reproduction kits, not leftover surplus.") Not cheap though are they? But what I really want to do is this...
  23. We've taken manifolds off a couple 4.0s. We took the fuel rail off both times. The fuel rail is pretty easy to take off.
