How much lift can I get away with?
jpnjake replied to Peanut_butter_mj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Here’s my truck with sagged 3” lift springs and a 3/4” lift puck to equal out to about 3” in the front and metric ton springs that are about 5-6” in the back now This is all with 31” tires And on a SWB where yours is a LWB -
Np, the black kinda hides the fuel door

That’s so much NOS I wonder who will end up getting it

I agree, currently looking on eBay for the unit, it plugs right into the 88+ style plug with no modifications. Just to install you have to remove the center vent, and move the heater controls to the bottom

Ok I just discovered something super cool while going through the data books today. For context on my dads second Comanche this double deck radio came in it, that replaced the lower vent and radio slot with this big radio. so today I’m looking through the data books and I get to the mopar accessories at the end, and I see a cool custom order radio. So a few hours go by and my brain asks if it’s the same… so here we are now. I’m thinking a “Comanche limited” should have a pimp radio like this, does anyone know where I can get the buttons to restore this, or any information will be extremely helpful

Ok I went and dug out all of the dealer books from the Jeep bunker… Here’s the years and pictures missing 86 and 88, I don’t have those books 1986: (Not Pictured) Models: X (New), XLS (New), Custom(New) (correct me if I’m missing some or wrong, I don’t know much about 86 only stuff) 1987: Models available: Two Tone(not a model, but still a paint scheme) Base, Sportruck (New), Pioneer (New), Chief (New), Laredo (New) 1988:(not pictured:( ) Models available: Base, Sportruck, Pioneer, Eliminator(New), Laredo, Chief 1989: Models available: Base, Sportruck, Pioneer, Eliminator 1990: (almost the same as 89) Models: Base, Sportruck, Pioneer, Eliminator 1991: Base, Sportruck (Updated), Pioneer (Updated), Eliminator (Updated) 1992: Base, Sport(New), Pioneer, Eliminator 1993: Models: Base, Sport package (New), Eliminator

I know some of the rarest ones were the 91 and 92 pioneer striped, you can see them on @acfortier’s silver star, the 91 and 92 eliminators are also rare, I also haven’t seen many original 4x4 86 setups, 86 also had a lot more odd options with the 2 tone paint and all

It’s a great truck other than the obvious, once keyparts comes out with cab corners that’s an easy fix, I’d also suggest checking out this thread, about halfway down the page he fixes a cab corner a little better than yours. Other than that great job with the truck so far, it looks great

I second the chrome -
Lol I mean the seat belt will hold you in place enough right… but seriously seatbelts required or else you’ll be on the other side of the Jeep, just ask some of my old passengers

Also here’s buckets for bench in my chief too, the only reason for the swap was because it came with buckets and it’s a restoration (apparently I don’t have many Good bench pictures…) IMG_6496.MOV

But Pete, when I had my bench in I could wear a cowboy hat while I drove lol that’s obviously why I loved my bench seat, it was so comfy and made me feel like I was driving a couch, The only reason I took it out was for the set of limited buckets that I couldn’t pass up. (apparently I didn’t get any good bench pictures while it was in there) But I’d say bench all the way, it’s so useful to have that 3rd seat, and just to be able to throw stuff in the middle

If your thinking about installing an air horn it’s not hard at all, here’s the pictures from my install, I even have it all connected to a factory switch (XJ washer, up is compressor, down (momentary) is horn), and you could add a way to activate it with a kill switch if you wanted. The horn is installed in the front crossmember, and the compressor and tank are mounted to the coolant bottle bracket as I converted to open cooling IMG_4690.MOV Personally when I go somewhere I’m worried about theft I pull my coil wire and fuel pump balist resistor wire, but I understand the appeal of a killswitch

I love this interior combination so much, the truck looks great, good work so far

Yes they are, the mini console’s are basically just a chopped down big console with everything in the same places

No problem, go tell some people how cool their builds look or ask some questions about how they did stuff, it’s a great way to get your posts up and get to know everybody

Jeep TJ gas tank swap? Whodunnit
jpnjake replied to ThatJeepGuy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I haven’t seen anything on it, but I’d also consider using an XJ tank (20 gallons), and you could cut in the gas filler neck and fuel door in behind the wheel well and it would look factory, you could also use an xj skid plate to protect it. I’ve also heard that ZJ tanks are slightly bigger (23gallons) and they fit under xj’s as long as you use the ZJ skid plate. I’ve also heard of people modifying lwb tanks to fit on the swb -
Here’s some pictures it’s slightly different on the 97-01 as pictured but the same basic design except the bottom peice on the old style is held on with metal clips and is 2 peice where the new is just one
