  1. 3:73 will do ya well. If you plan to go larger than 31's, ever.... go 4:10 but honestly 3:73 is a great ratio all around.
  2. micro fracture in the sheet metal of the pan maybe? Them things are built thin!
  3. The reason you might want to go SOA is instant 4-5" lift. Or as has been pointed out, it gets the U bolts pointing up so the threads and bolts don't get hung on stuff (and bent, damaged) when wheeling. Problems with SOA include driveline geometry/length, leaf pack warping "S" shaped without anti wrap bar in place, basically it ends up being a lot of work to get right. For your use case it seems to me SUA is the way to go unless you are building a "Hammer down" machine and are trying to stuff Dana 60's under it with 42" tires.
  4. Sometimes you gotta break some eggs before you make the perfect meal! Don't give up brother!
  5. I had to replace my entire fuse block then repair a few lamp sockets, rear wiring harness before my MJ came to life. It was a tedious project but I got through it.
  6. I have the skils and the software, please send the file thanks!
  7. The Durango pump swap it a good one, if you want to rebuild your steering box I recommend West Texas Offroad . They do a steering RAM assist for heavy duty needs. While you may or may not need to go that extreme, they do a great job rebuilding steering boxes in general. I've used them on 2 Jeeps, one CJ-8 and my MJ. P.S. when replacing your Steering box/pump make sure to bleed the s*** out of it BEFORE starting the engine. To do this you can put the front end up on jack stands, then with the engine OFF, slowly turn the steering wheel lock to lock about 100-300 times (no joke) adding fluid until you stop seeing bubbles and the system doesn't take any more fluid. If you don't bleed they system before starting up the engine you run the risk of cavitating your pump, meaning it gets ruined. Trust me, I learned this the hard way $$.
  8. Was this an OEM option? I ain't never seen one before
  9. A++ Keep up the great work!
  10. My Cj8 was a daily driver / weekend wheeler for about 10 years, then I got tired of wheeling Sat, running to Shucks (now O'Rielly's) on Sundays to fix the broke stuff so I can get to work on Monday so little by little it turned into the thing it was. Most mods were designed to run trails a Reiter Trails (aka Reiter Pit) in Goldbar WA. Dana 60s f/r Detroit locker in front, spool rear, 6:17:1, Blueprinted and balance 5.0 EFI, T-18, Dana 300 with independent f/r hi low for digging around stuff! BTW rolls were mostly flops, were always at low speeds so no worries there. I do not expect to turn my Manche into a thing like that, but I would like to add a few things!
  11. Naw I didn't roll over THERE lol... I did roll other places though, that's how I learned the limits of that Old Jeep! P.S. that was me in 2009
  12. Nice looking CJ8! I had one for "a bit" (1993-2010) it was my daily driver until it became a trailer queen. Enjoy the ride buddy! This is trailer queen mode
  13. I am saddened to hear this news, thanks for letting us know AZjeff I never met Pete in person, but we had some great conversations here on the forums, and boy howdy, did was that guy a wealth of knowledge! Soar in peace Pete!
  14. It can be true, but the engine needs to be built, not just bolted on to 😁 I ran a Clifford manifold, and header on my 258 and it was good, not great but that's because my engine wasn't blueprinted. To fix exhaust leaks look to remflex.com they make THE BEST exhaust/intake gaskets
  15. Don't forget you will need a tool to press the new one on, it doesn't just slip on easy, I used a steering wheel puller to do this (I'm crafty like that) You only need to press it on to a point where the bolt grabs thread, but to avoid stripping out the threads press the new one on as far as you can.
  16. so true!
  17. DANA 60 time!! LOL jk I agree with the others, definitely swap in a whole new axle, or waste time and money trying to patch together what you have.
  18. Hi Idle can also be caused by a vacuum leak, which I did to myself one time
