  1. That's an impressive tear down. Looks like it could have used a few more oil changes than it ever got.
  2. I always tell people that Comanche Club is the friendliest corner of the internet. I love coming here, helping where I can and learning something new. I've only ever found positive come from my truck, it brings out people that love it for a variety of reasons, whether they just like small trucks, had one, like the style or are surprised of its existence. I'm always giddy when people learn for the first time that Jeep made a pickup version of the XJ.
  3. I had no idea that they offered roll bar lights, that's awesome.
  4. As someone that lives in western PA, I'd definitely be surprised if you find much more than a hill to drive up and down in OH, it's a surprisingly flat state. Good luck with the build! Looks like a clean truck.
  5. What's the spark plug condition?
  6. Grand Cherokee's were disk brake all around and all Dana axles.
  7. Today I aired up the tires, hitched up the trailer and drove to Canfield, OH to buy a snow blower. I rarely drive it in the winter but it's a good dry day, though frigid.
  8. Yep, we have a NOCO one in the MJ. It's been limping along a very weak battery for a few years, cranks absurdly fast with the jump pack.
  9. They were very popular between the end of WW2 and the 1970s. The issue is in the late 60s the British automotive industry was a toxic place of mad unions, terrible management and increasing foreign competition. Quality suffered. My 62 Austin Healey Sprite has been astoundingly reliable with the only issue that has prevented it from running being a leaky water pump due to me over tightening the belt, the water leak got the distributor wet. They are fun to drive, very viceral, and get lots of attention. It makes delightful sounds and is super responsive with the factory dual SU carbs. If you want to stand out in your main street car show, show up in something that is cute and not old American Muscle. The thing I like most about it is parts are widely available and usually super cheap. Due to the British reputation, the purchase price of little British roadsters are also very low. Yeah, the Sprite was a fun story, my dad was an electrical engineering student and my grandfather a metallurgists in 1973 during the oil crisis. They bought the Sprite for $85 non running to turn into some sort of electric hybrid. The hybrid modifications never happened but they did fix up the car and drove it. Both my dad and grandfather used it to daily drive at some point. In 2020 during the pandemic I daily drove it for 7 months straight without driving anything else.
  10. A couple pictures of my Austin Healey Sprite when my grandfather restored it in the 80s. It only had PA classic plates on it at the time so these pictures must have been pre 1996 when it was last inspected. The pics are on my cube wall at work. The Corvair and Winnebago in the background of the second pic are both results of my grandparents businesses. They had an unsuccessful dune buggy business building them out of Corvairs. The Winnebago rental business was very successful. This pic is of the Mercedes 86 560SL my grandfather purchased apparently in 97. He loves his panoramic camera lense... My parents have this car now, the winter pic explains the rust it has. 😣
  11. Take a rare vehicle like an MJ then add the rarest engine, this one is special.
  12. I can't deny that. It was a balmy -11 deg F this morning.
  13. Looks like fun! I wish I wasn't 30 hr drive away!
  14. I'm not really an audiophile but have been having fun setting up my system. Picked up this Marantz 2216 from my grandparents, my grandfather was using it for a basement radio. It was sitting next to the sump pump and was quite muddy. I was gifted from a friend a set of JBL L212 speakers and the B212 subwoofer box. The speakers sound amazing. Sadly the sub had a blown amp and a crappy replacement PYLE speaker from the 90s. I'm working on getting the sub up to spec and sounding good. I am working on putting a little Fosi sub amp on it. Everything was free, I wasn't expecting to get into 70s/80s vintage audio equipment. I had always planned on purchasing a duplicate of the early 90s Onkyo component stereo my parents have.
  15. I would goto a shop that sells color matched automotive paint and have them mix up a match to the old paint on your truck. Due to age it's likely a bit off compared to the original factory color. I guess the question if there is a place local to you that sells color matched paint.
  16. My dad said his father tried to convince my grandmother that a late 50s Corvette was suitable for a family of 5. They all went to dinner in it once . My grandfather drive, grandmother holding my aunt in her hands in the passenger seat. My dad road the transmission jump and my uncle stood in front of my grandmother holding the dashboard grab handle. This was in 1960s Cleveland.
  17. Thanks, that would seem to indicate mine is working fine then.
  18. What are the symptoms of a failed thermostat on a 4.0L? Will it ever get to temp?
  19. That doesn't add up to me. If one does the statics problem, the external slave should have about a 2:1 advantage to apply force onto the throw out bearing vs the internal slave design based on the lever arm length. So to make the clutch heavier feeling, the surface area of the external slave would need to be less than half of the internal cylinder. I'd have to get some measurements of the piston diameters to confirm.
  20. Cool thoughts. The only thing I'll add to this is that it's clear that the internal slave has much more piston area than the external slave. I did am external slave conversion but kept my original master, that resulted in a clutch pedal of about double the weight. I'm hoping some day to get the correct smaller bore master to match.
  21. I'm not sure they sell parts for Comanches, but if you are ever shopping for rubber parts and come across URO, then avoid it at all costs. I've purchased parts from them many times as they are so much cheaper, they technically work but I always find they fit poorly or only last a few months.

    MJ on Maui

That's an awesome one! Almost a perfect combination of the two MJs I have had.
  23. Even though it's my vehicle with the most miles, my MJ is the one I trust most on a long trip. It's in the best condition of my highway capable cars. My 99 BMW M3 I'm always suspicious that the cooling system is going to explode and my 09 Civic Si is an electrical ticking time bomb. I do understand your feeling, just when everything seems to be going well, something bad will happen.
  24. These LED lights for the reverse lights are a phenomenal upgrade compared to stock. From my build thread: https://comancheclub.com/topic/68921-1990-comanche-eliminator/?do=findComment&comment=745859 Upgraded reverse lights with these light bulbs based on someone's recommendation on the forum. Amazon Link
  25. I understand that ZF8 speed swaps are the hot swap for off roaders in Australia. They are incredibly capable and tunable transmissions apparently. My parent's have one in their Grand Cherokee, it's a phenomenal transmission for towing.
