BeatCJ messes up a 1987 Comanche
BeatCJ replied to BeatCJ's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
It's been more than a while since I updated. Replaced the alternator, used the 100 amp optional alternator, it fit just fine in the base 60 amp bracket. I also upgraded the charge wire, added a fuse in place of the fusible link. I have collected some parts for the eventual swap to 4 wheel drive, an NP 242 transfer case, a 4.10 Dana 30. Still looking for a rear axle and a transmission. For my plans, I think 4.10 gears will be perfect. I am willing to use either an 8.8 or an 8.25. We have both laying around with 3.55 gears, so I could get gears and bearings, and go that way, too. I have passed up 4wd BA10/5 and AX-5s, I don't see any reason to go there. Missed out on 2 AX-15s by being too slow. I hope to get this done by fall, so no particular hurry. I need to pull and replace the new fuel pump. U.S. Motorworks got back to me, it will be warrantied, but I have to go through Summit Racing. And so far, they haven't answered my emails. -
HO exhaust manifold on a Renix
BeatCJ replied to JMO413's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Does moving the O2 sensor further down stream affect how it reads? It wouldn't be difficult to add a bung for that onto the manifold/header, too. -
Broken leaf spring...Standard longbed 4.0 1987
BeatCJ replied to DC3's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Look at Benz Spring and Oregon Auto Spring in the Portland area. I think they both will. -
Sorry, get it fixed and back on the road/trails. Get it out of my driveway and into his.

Hey Pete, I bet those flares would work on yours.

I just picked up an XJ Front with 4.10s today. It needs bearings, but the gears are good. I have the matching 8.25 rear end, but it's earmarked to fix the son's Cherokee. Be nice to get it out of my driveway. Probably should stop the threadjacking...

I immediately went to Google after reading that, every single one I found was a 3.7 V-6. And the 4 cylinder has 4.10s.

Gas overflow after filling up.
BeatCJ replied to eaglescout526's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
This was a typical thing for Ford Diesel pickups for a long time, like '83 to '06. Since many diesel pumps pump faster than gas pumps, the same venting wasn't enough. The guys that cared carried a chunk of 4x6 to run the back tire on. -
91' MJ - Temp gauge bouncing around
BeatCJ replied to CaptainPatchy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Where would you find an OEM Sender? I am gathering parts for the swap to a full gauge cluster. -
It seems high to me, too. I could see how it could be that much, though. I think it would depend on your level of comfort with the reputation of the shop, and your knowledge about mechanics work. I think I would agree, get some more estimates/quotes. And also, this would be a job I would do myself. A Jeep is probably as good as anyplace to learn. Nothing that is too tricky, except working under the manifolds.

Wow, great timing. I was just thinking about this, riding around with the window open and the seal biting into my arm. Thanks for posting. -
Stripped rear drum brakes

Say what? Where do you find the process? Does that go for a late model booster swap, too? -
BA10/5 to AX15 bellhousing bolts
BeatCJ replied to Bobby anderton's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Perfect, that's kind of what I thought. When I installed a ZF-5 in my '87 F-350, I built some tapered guide bolts for the 2 lowest holes. Got all the other bolts started, and swapped the right bolts in. Of course, a ZF-5 is quite a bit heavier. Even heavier than the iron cased T-19 I replaced. -
Not that bad a day. A couple of errands, and noticed the local Pick and Pull had the right year Cherokee manual, but the transmission was gone before I got there. What irritates is that it was running like a top until I shut it off and then it wouldn't restart. Yes, and the ballast reads 1.5 ohms resistance. I am pretty sure when I installed the pump, I was getting the same voltage at crank. In my mind, if the ballast drops the voltage to 5 or 6 at run, priming at 9.9 should still allow it to start. And I am getting voltage to the pump connector on crank and run.

BA10/5 to AX15 bellhousing bolts
BeatCJ replied to Bobby anderton's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Since I intend to do the same thing, do you use the same length studs, or add 3/8" or so for nuts? -
Yes, I have the C101. I cleaned/refreshed it before I replaced the fuel pump. I also cleaned to ground in the taillight, but I haven't added a fuel pump ground. I just got a tip for my ancient Craftsman soldering gun. I will pull the pump and try jumping 12 volts directly to it. Waiting for anyone to get home from work and help me drag it home. It's on the private drive, mostly out of the way, or I would just hook up the car trailer and use the come-a-long and get it home that way. Seems like too much effort for 1/4 mile... Yes, I want to do some circuit testing, my biggest problem is no helper to turn the key. I need some alligator clips for my meter, too. I had gotten groceries, and stopped to pick up my empty recycle bins. And then it wouldn't restart. Errrrr.

How did your cutting go?

I replaced the fuel pump a couple of months ago. Now I am back to crank no start no sound from the fuel pump. I checked voltage at the harness side of the plug, I have 9.90 volts on crank, and about 5.5 for 3 seconds on run. That means my problem just about has to be the pump right?

88 Comanche - $13000 - Portland, OR
BeatCJ replied to Ls2xjcomanche's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
I could go kick the tires, but $13000 is crazy, I don't care how much is invested in parts... That exhaust sticking down is really bothering me. -
One of the guys that works for me has a seizure disorder. He manages it just fine, 99% of the people that know him have no idea. His last couple have always been when he has been short of sleep. As the father of 3, you would think it would be a regular thing for him, but it's been close to 8 years since his last. Many, many people live with seizures, and it doesn't change their life at all. Keep your head up, you'll get it figured out. And for many of us, Fake internet Friends are all we have.

And worth EXACTLY what you paid for it. Both my wife and I are considered essential. She's a manager at a smaller hardware store, they've been crazy busy. And customer's have been stressed. as a manager, she's salaried, and working 10 to 12 hour days. Vegetable starts, landscaping products, power tools are flying off of her shelves. I'm an Assistant Fire Chief, and we are just starting to get a handle on what wildland Fire Camps might look like. It's going to be a strange summer for us.

I always craved a set of Centerlines. And still love the original Outlaws, had them on my 2nd owner 1987 F-350.

What do the other ends of the cables look like? I haven't really looked into it, but I plan on making the same swap, and I think I have heard the issue is at the other end.
