Swap XJ 2.8 into 2.5 MJ?
Car RamRod replied to lil_loco's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I can't not post here, due to past experience. Completely wash the 2.8l idea from your head. It's a complete boat anchor of an engine, that's wieghed down even worse with extensive emissions work. Something HAD to be done, I couldn't keep up with traffic on hills, and it sucked gas horrendously. I was all set to start collecting up parts for a 3.4 swap, when I found an 87 with a 4.0/5speed for $300. The engine was shot, but the trans was mint, so I went for it (also had a black interior :brows: ). I spent somewhere in the upper hundred for a reman 4.0, and besides that it was just a good deal of time that it took to swap everything over. Having driven the truck almost a year, I have absolutely ZERO regrets with the path I took. It's got plenty of power and on the highway I get well over 20mpg. I've even done so well as 24.5 a few times, and 25 on one road trip. So if you can find a good donor vehicle, that's a great swap. If not, I've heard good things about a 3.4 swap as well. Just stay away from the 2.8. -
Not much really..... took my tow strap out of the toolbox for another mission, and just did some research on the few mods I'm doing next. OTOH, I did ponder that if gas had been this cheap when I did my 4.0 swap (last fall), if I wouldve gone for a 350 chevy instead.

only the real nerds will catch this reference (I'm one of them of course)

wow I've never seen lo-pro tires for a 24.5 wheel. Crazy. All of my "holy $#!&" pictures are on my phone. I need to get them off of there.

wow that's quite a list there. Didn't you only finish that black interior last spring? -
I did mine dark metallic green and love it. With the flat black accents it's got that "off road" kinda look to it, but it's also a smooth color. Hides dirt and dents extremely well also. I can throw up a few pictures if you're interested.

1. I play junior hockey, love nothing more than it. 2. Both my jeep and mustang are worth more than I have into them. (sounds silly but I'm really good at wrenching on the cheap) 3. I work on heavy trucks and absolutely love vintage trucks. 4. I'm a really calm, well spoken, well educated individual, but I can get heated and throw that out real quick (i.e. any time I step on the ice. 5. I like all animals, but dogs have their own place in my heart. Especially my own.

What's so great about a Comanche?
Car RamRod replied to bilgamesh's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I love my truck. It's small enough to drive anywhere (live in the city), it hauls a good amount, gets good mileage, 4wd, and it tough as hell. The uniqueness of it is great as well. For a mini truck I couldn't own anything else. I'm not sure what I'll do in a year or two when I need to upsize to a full size truck. -

who designed the clutch master cylinder?
Car RamRod replied to thejum57's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I used a crows foot socket to get mine off. It's a PITA, like your pictures show. -

you guys are nuts if you really think any of the following (not you sarcastic folk): -that's an 1/8th mile track -an amc 401 can't make a good deal of power -a pickup truck can't hook up that's a badass truck right there.... give credit where credit is due.

I've seen 24mpg pretty regularly on trips here in the NE (slight hills and such). On one trip on LI I was able to see 25mpg. I'm hoping with an alignment and those fancy injectors people are using (mine are at 260k), I can see 26. Thats on 87 octane.

that was ruthless.

I'll give you that..... I forgot that I do have 3.55s from when I had that powerhouse 2.8l. Talk about mpg's
-
I haven't done it, but I have gotten 26mpg in my truck. That's with tired 275k injectors in it which I'll be replacing soon. And it's a longbed 4x4. A really healthy 2wd swb should be able to out-mpg my truck, fwiw. That's a renix/5 speed truck also. If any style 4.0l mj is gonna turn such a number, it would be a truck like that.
