Cranking but no spark.

Oh good thing; I had no idea why it would have gotten stuck, and I would have felt terrible if my advice broke something on your truck. Good to hear you got her fired up. I would also be lost without this site. -

6 or 7mm I think. I used a swivel socket, a 12" extention, a universal, another 12" extenion and I think a 6" extention on that, and that put the ratchet behind the transfer case. I supported the contraption on the socket and in the middle, while my father turned the ratchet, and it was in and out easily. I also lowered the transmission down as much as it wanted to (4 or 5 inches), and that made it a ton easier. Lastly, DO NOT drop the CPS bolts into the bellhousing. Good luck Matt -
rear bumper build up plan?
Car RamRod replied to tkgibbs27's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That's how I made mine. -
comanche87, I also suggest using bondo made for smoothing fiberglass; it holds up better to water.

Sounds like another victim to the CPS. What a damn plague this thing is. I feel bad for people without sites like this to point them in the right direction with this damn cps. -
I'll just clean down to the metal and show there's no rot if that'll make the sale.

yo man I was inside gettin a bucket of wings, you shoulda came in!

<------the seller. Like I said Rob, if you change your mind, just let me know and hopefully I'll still have it. Matt

+1.

I'm not stuck on the lightbar or extra turn signals, but I'd have to see them in person to make final judgement. However one thing that stuck out to me was the air breather on the valve cover....isn't that a no-no on PCV engines?

I like the maglite mounts. Where did you find such a thing?

I'm about 2200 deep in my truck over 2 years, but I think it's worth 3k with all the work that I've done.

What to use to replace the floor pans?
Car RamRod replied to bobweiser's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My DS floor was really bad, so I made a new one out of 1/4" diamond plate. Image Not Found However where it wasn't too bad I made a patch panel from sheetmetal, with tec screws and silicone. Image Not Found Then I topped it all off with some bedliner. Image Not Found Hope this helps, Matt -
While we're on the subject of Oil Filters...
Car RamRod replied to Carl'sMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I use shell rotella 10w40 in my trucks and my f150 since that was new. Everything else gets mobil cityguard that I got from a friend for the price of free, a barrel that is. And in the stang I run quakerstake 20w50. 5 quarts of that and 2 quarts of 10w40. Everything gets hasting filters with the exception of the mustang; that gets motorcraft. -
When my CPS went, it was an intermittent no start, but after I got stranded at work I figured I'd go for it and change it. Well the new one didn't work at all. So I returned it for a different one, and that one is working fine (knock on wood!). Matt

ZJ "mini" overhead console
Car RamRod replied to Car RamRod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
no, I think that's a fairly old thread. I was only referring to the written content in the thread. hornbrod: sounds fancy.........how did you like the zj console when you had it? And what did you have to do for a temperature gauge? -

link fixed, sorry about that. -
I was looking to put one of these in my truck. I read through this thread http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/view ... rheadrough and I'm still not sure if this is a self contained unit (only need to run power, acc. power, ground, etc)? Also, if anyone who installed one could let me know how it's working out, I'd appreciate it.

15.4 miles to school each way. I do that 3 times a week.....and don't drive it anywhere else lol.

I'm gonna just go ahead and change the o2. It came out of a 273k truck so it's probably due. As for the speedo being off, it's more than just the tires. I have larger tires than stock, but I also have a 3.08 speedo gear in a truck with 3.55s, so I'm not even going off that (even though I would like to fix it sooner or later). Randy if you could post that link up when you get a chance that would be great. Matt

I was in the same predicament months ago. It's unbelievable that such a junk motor could be produced. I ended up finding a 4.0/5 speed comanche locally and used it as a donor, switched EVERYTHING over. It has worked out pretty nicely so far. If I didn't find the donor, I probably would have done a 3.4l swap, but then I still wouldve been stuck with the 3speed auto. Another idea I had was to freshen up the 2.8 like you said, and put a 5 speed behind it. Then gear it accordingly so you could use 5th gear at 65. I think that's another viable option. Good luck.

Thanks for the idea. I may not go for those right away, but I have a set of low mile 19#ers out of my car, which should be better than the 270k ones I'm running. I totally overlooked the injectors. Thanks for the ideas randy, here's what I have covered already the engine is freshly rebuilt, so compression shouldn't be a problem. I'm running 31's, so they shouldn't kill me too badly. But my speedometer is off anyway from the speedo gear I'm using so that part doesn't affect me. The brakes and all should be alright, but I'll check. And I'll pull a plug soon and check it out for sure. Could be a small vacuum leak here and there, I need to fix up the vacuum fittings with some RTV just to be sure. Also, anyone know how I could check the condition of the o2 sensor? Thanks for the suggestions, Matt

wouldn't be worth the time, the HO motors seem to get worse mileage anyways :dunno: the 99+ intake might help, but you have to adapt TPS and all sorts of stuff and swap power steering setups yuck....I don't need any more big mods lol. I was really just curious what I need to check/adjust Renix wise to try to get better mpg, and also to lean it out a bit.
-
Well I have a good 1000 miles on my 87 renix 4.0. I have some spare time this week and I'd really like to get a few more mpg out of her; I'm only getting 15 city/highway and I drive pretty easy, shift at 26-2800. I'm definitely gonna put the 02 sensor and see how gummed up it is from the last engine and breaking this one in. Then what else is there to check (I know the renix engines can be picky) that could lead to my truck not running that well. And it is definitely running rich, I passed emissions by a hair due to running too rich. So what would you guys suggest that I check out? And how? Thanks Matt
