Well I think I'm going to give these a shot. Thanks 89 Comanche Eliminator 2wd 4.0L 5 speed PukeGoat Factory Original

I've seen this. I'm just wondering if it's the same size. They are not what I have. Also the OEM stock Cherokee rims that currently on the truck, the caps are different sizes. I don't know if the hole is a different size across the comanche line up. But I do know the rims I have were only offered on the Eliminator. The OEM Cherokee rim that is similar is not the same. They are missing the "rivets". Is that the only difference? Wherever I find sizes they are listed at either 56mm or 60 mm. I know 60 doesn't fit. I have those. The hole and the caps that came with them measures at 58.2mm. Right now I'd settle for some plain caps that fit. I can find stickers to put on them. 89 Comanche Eliminator 2wd 4.0L 5 speed PukeGoat Factory Original

Where can I find these? I'm not any luck online. I want the factory original look but now I'm just looking for something that will fit the Eliminator rims. Approx 58 mm opening. Any other model old or current that has caps this size? I have the original caps but they are in really bad shape. All four look like they spent too long in the sun and melted. 89 Comanche Eliminator 2wd 4.0L 5 speed PukeGoat Factory Original

I'm a Chief Engineer in the Merchant Marine. I keep all the machinery and systems on a tugboat working. Including the sewage system. Been elbow deep more than once. can't get much dirtier than that. On my off time I'm a volunteer fireman. Get pretty nasty doing that as well. 89 Comanche Eliminator 2wd 4.0L 5 speed PukeGoat Factory Original

My winch. Carries 2 1/4" wire on the left of pic. 2500 feet. Right drum has 2000 feet of 2" wire under the lines as a backup. yes we do break them. The lines are use for when we go alongside barges. FYI we tow barges full of up to 80k barrels of petroleum Story of this picture. It was taken onboard the tug Delaware about 100 miles west of Manzanilla Mexico during a transit from Jacksonville Florida to Seattle.Over about 3 days the entire boat got covered in seagull excrement. It was extremely sunny and about 95 degrees. Took the deckhands two days to pressure wash it all off just before we go to LA. Never was more glad I'm no longer a deckhand. Cooled by Keel coolers, basically large radiators built into the bottom of the hull. Only works well while vessel is moving. Hooked up pushing on something not moving makes my day get very interesting. Interesting on boats is NOT a good thing.

My toys. Its not an engine bay. Its an engine room and is two levels. These pictures are from my first tug I was Chief on about 20 years ago, the Choptank. I'm currently sailing on the tug Delaware but she has the same engine setup only the gensets are smaller to meet stricter emission standards.Still John Deeres and use a lot of the same parts just 4 cylinder not 6 and it turns 200 rpm faster toPowered by two, Caterpillar 3516 diesel engines. I'm the Chief Engineer on an ocean going tugboat. And I got married in 1995. Some version of this is always a username on everything so I don't have to remember a bunch of different ones. 89 Comanche Eliminator 2wd 4.0L 5 speed PukeGoat Factory Original

Transmission identification and advice
tugboat95 replied to Manche' Boi's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yep, mine was built on March 6, 89. So I have the Peugeot and I have confirmed it. That being said. I don't have a horror story. Mine has 111,000 miles on it. I've only owned it since December. No issues at all with it. But I'm like the OP I'm watching it. I've read and heard some stories, but I think the consensus is as a daily driver its fine. If you want to climb mountains or hard core off-road it's gonna break, just a matter of time. As for me, the first instance it gives me trouble that a five minute fix won't take care of I'm dropping an AX15 in it. I will not chase good money after bad. And it probably won't be coming out of a junkyard either. 89 Comanche Eliminator 2wd 4.0L 5 speed PukeGoat Factory Original- 15 replies

Mine is an 89 Eliminator 4.0 5 speed. But to my understanding the 89 model only came with bucket seats and 2wd. Not a whole lot of options. It just looked good at the time. My current MJ has factory AC but 30 years ago the one I had didn't. Neither have cruise control. My current one has manual windows and a three piece back glass. I also believe in 89 they all were Colorado Red, but I could be wrong. I do know they had specific wheels. Look at picture. XJs had similar but only the MJ Eliminator had the "rivets" around the edge of the wheel. Is this the type of info your looking for? As for value. It's all in the buyer. No rust and running like mine is has to be worth more than a rusted out bed and a bad engine. Mine is all original even the dull paint (I plan on a paint job this fall), and to me that's worth something. But I know guys have a lot more invested in theirs all modded out, jacked up and even turboed with beautiful paint jobs. That's not my style. Personally I'm restoring mine back to show room floor quality. A lot of of people don't want one like that. So which one is worth more? Factory original numbers matching, no rust ANYWHERE is getting exceedingly rare. That's a thing in muscle cars....is it for Jeeps??? 89 Comanche Eliminator 2wd 4.0L 5 speed PukeGoat Factory Original

It does sound high. He's getting you on the labor. If you pull it yourself, you can get a brand new crate engine for less than half that. That's what I did on my last project. Guy wanted 7600. I bought a brand new crate GM Performance 350 for $1900. Just stock nothing fancy. Added about $500 more in hoses sensors etc. Borrowed an engine lift. My teenage son (otherwise known as free labor) and myself pulled it in 2 four days. Installed a new one in 2 five hour days. Taking our time. Ate lunch, I think I answered at least one volunteer fire dept call. Unless you're going for numbers matching type of stuff, you're better off installing crate engine. Any savings you get rebuilding you will lose in labor costs if somebody else machines it. You gotta pull it anyway. Put a new one in its a lot quicker. 89 Comanche Eliminator 2wd 4.0L 5 speed PukeGoat Factory Original

Thanks for the info. To go the next step. I'm planning on having the entire coolant system flushed. I really want the engine passages as clean as possible. Has anyone had any issues flushing out one if these old radiators. I'm aware of the bleeding of air issues of a closed system. Is the radiator (it's in good shape visually) going to hold up to a machine flushing it under pressure? 89 Comanche Eliminator 2wd 4.0L 5 speed PukeGoat Factory Original

As the weather gets warm I'm noticing that my 4.0l is running about 212 to 215 according to my gauge. I'm not sure what it was a few months ago when I first bought it since I didn't bother looking. Seems a little warm to me but It runs great. It's a closed system and is in serious need of a flush which I hope to give it in the next few days to weeks.. As part of it I plan to install a new Tstat. Which is better for these 4 liters, 185 or 165? Seems I have 2 choices. My diesels run at 165 and my 350 gas engine runs at 190. Fans are working as they should but one of the shrouds is missing. What should I be shooting for with the planned work. Or should I go further. Anybody know where is a good spot on the block to shoot with an infrared for a consistent temp to double check the gauge and what should it say at that point? I usually double check a certain joint in a coolant line on my diesels and it's about 5 degrees hotter than the gauge. I've learned over the years every engine has its own normal. I just have to learn it. These 4.0L s are a little different animal than I'm used to. Gotta learn a new normal. Any pointers are appreciated. 89 Comanche Eliminator 2wd 4.0L 5 speed PukeGoat Factory Original

I know of 3 terminals across the country that have trains sitting and waiting to be unloaded. (As of last week) Tanks are full nowhere to put it. They pump out the train cars as the tanks allow. And you're right distillates(gasoline) have a shelf life. How long ago was that gas we just bought made? Who knows? 89 Comanche Eliminator 2wd 4.0L 5 speed PukeGoat Factory Original

They are already filling train cars and even pipelines across the country. My cousin works on the NYC to Port Jeff (Long Island)run. He delivers 90% of the gasoline used outside the city on the island. Facility usually takes in 30000 barrels a day. Last 3 weeks it was only 7000 barrels per day. His barge carries 80000 barrels. He's doing a lot of anchor time. 89 Comanche Eliminator 2wd 4.0L 5 speed PukeGoat Factory Original

Never quit working although as of yesterday I'm on my 21 days off. Just did a 21 day hitch on the tug. (I work 24/7 for 21 days then 21 days off) La harbor is very slow. Almost zero containerships coming in and very few tankers. Only saw 1 car carrier in 3 weeks. Hawaiian trade thru Matson shipping seems to be the only thing steady. When I left yesterday there were 25 tankers anchored waiting to offload and nowhere to do it. And 5 cruise ships just sitting. There is a flotilla of ultra large crude carriers currently heading to the west coast from Saudi(too big for canal). Nobody knows what they are going to do When they get here. Shore tanks are full refineries are shut down due to lack of demand. World is actually running out of oil transport. If it floats its already full. Oil shipping right now is lucrative. Being paid to store it. But when it ends it will crash hard. 89 Comanche Eliminator 2wd 4.0L 5 speed PukeGoat Factory Original

My go to everyday driver is my 2012 Ram 1500 crew cab. With that awesome Hemi. Before I got the Comanche I had a 99 Suburban that I rebuilt from the ground up. New rear end, new suspension, new brakes and control arms, all new ball joints mounts and bushings, and a new crate 350 engine from GM Performance. Rode like a Cadillac. Drove it from the Atlantic Ocean to Seattle and back thru the southwest. Sadly I sold it when I got back. Still not sure that was a good idea. Just might buy me another one. 89 Comanche Eliminator 2wd 4.0L 5 speed PukeGoat Factory Original
