I'm also working on replacing the o-rings on the oil filter adapter as well as a couple of other leaks. I also have to get the shift linkage sorted out. It doesn't have enough range to fully engage 4lo. So I'm going to look at linkage bushings and maybe tweaking the shifter to allow some more throw.

I've been tinkering on my XJ for a few years now. It's my second XJ. My first one was my daily driver back when it was new. This one is a 2001. It has a Rubicon Express 3" lift and 265/75R16 tires on cheap Quadratec wheels. The original axles are gone. The XJ Dana 44 I swapped in has 4.56 gears, a Truetrac, and disc brakes. The front high pinion XJ Dana 30 I swapped in has 4.56 gears and a Truetrac. It's a 4.0 auto with the 242 transfer case. With the limited slip and full time high range it makes a nearly unstoppable winter beater. The tires rub off road though so I started installing some bushwhacker flat cutout flares to make room. They cover the tires well and transition nicely into the JCR bumper and rock sliders.

Whenever someone says Deuce, I think about the "Deuce and a quarter". I always forget about the pre-Nova Nova.

Sounds like a Chevy engine with a mechanical secondary Holley, along with a 4 speed manual in a Buick Electra 225. Could be a fun car.

Yeah, that beats my multimeter by a little bit... In my career I work on low level software (operating systems, device drivers, control systems, etc.) and I know how to read schematics well enough. But when it comes to actually hooking up the test gear, I'm at a loss. I know what to ask for when I want to test something. I just don't know how to run the gear.

I'd like to see some stuff. Especially testing equipment and how to use it. I know a bit about circuits and have been tinkering since I built an electric buzzer for a science fair back in the late 70's. I even wound my own coil for the electromagnet. But I haven't kept up on tools beyond a basic multimeter over the decades.

I remember having a Compass as a rental once. I was underwhelmed. It was decent enough and got me around town for a few days. And it had plenty of room. It would get the job done but I personally would look for better candidates. Still, you could do worse.

Two here. I know of others with more than me.

Hell yeah. Or the Syclone.

Yeah, the Bronco II is in the same league as the Mustang II.

It's like a car, only bigger.

Nice. You going to take it out of the box when you get home? (it's funnier with the more boxy first gen xB...)

Really, a CJ 2 or 3 would be a decent run-around-town vehicle.

That doesn't look quite right...

When I had my electric fan in the J10 I ran an 80A relay with 10GA wire. The controller would trigger the relay that would turn on power to the fans. For the power wire I put in a fuse that was sized to the load the fan would put on the system. The fans ran brilliantly. The problem ended up being an over-bored 401 V8 that ran way hotter than the cooling system could handle but the fans were great.

I've seen him do enough videos with some pretty janky redneck stuff and bad decisions to be a little skeptical of anything he posts. But I think in this case he's on the right track and has some pretty solid facts behind him.

I do have to say that I don't hate the new Bronco. I think the Sport is a little small but the regular Bronco 4 door would be a good daily driver/moderate wheeling rig. The IFS would sure ride nice on the road but it looks tough enough to do some mid level trails without too much drama. The turbo engines would be nice here in the mountains. While the 3.5 ecoboost would be great, the 2.7 is no slouch. That's probably the one I'd pick. I could replace both the Crosstrek and the XJ with just one vehicle. I would have one MJ as a built wheeler (when it's done) along with another that I could keep 2WD and make a little more "fun".

Where did you get those? I need a set.

This is a level many of us aspire to get to with our MJs.

I agree that it's an impressive body of work. It does belong in a museum. Totally respect the effort that went into it. It's just not what I'd do with my MJs. -
Crossed a threshold yesterday. I got the garage organized well enough to put a vehicle in the "work stall". The XJ is on the other side. It's time to get the MJs out of storage and get them started.

It's interesting to see that level of preservation and I totally respect what that takes. But for me the real joy is getting your vehicle out on the road and/or the trails and driving it. I'd much rather have a restomod 71 Chevelle with a well built modern drivetrain than a factory original SS with the LS6 454. I'd drool over the factory original at the car show but let someone else keep it like that.
