A good reputable pump brand. I have a napa one in my truck that's still going strong. Bosch was the OEM pump but their pump has shrunk and won't fit without any modifications. -
Retrofit A/C to non A/C MJ
eaglescout526 replied to JeepFanatik's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Its recommended to go as new as possible. If your 4.0L has the AC delete, all youll need is just the Compressor, no need to source mounting brackets. Should be able to get all new parts from anywhere. -

eaglescout526 replied to JeepFanatik's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If your truck is still Renix, you'll need to source Renix era parts for your 4.0L. Lost of guys on here have added AC to their non AC trucks. 2.5L on the other hand is tougher to find parts for. -

Valve cover grommets
eaglescout526 replied to eaglescout526's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
*update on this* So I needed to do a tune up today, gas mileage was bad, new sparkplugs, oil change and a VC gasket. I experimented a few days before and used Minuits idea of heat but to the grommet and not the valve cover. Oil as lube didn't work and neither did freezing because the grommet is as hard as a rock. Used a torch, heated up the grommet and viola I was able to get the new grommet on with a screw driver and gently pushed the lip in and down to sit in the cover. Now to retire the 30 year old original grommet. -

@Ωhm, ready for round two? Lol. But welcome to Renix 2.5L. How the fuel pump system works and a great way to verify it works is put the key in and turn it to the start position but don't actually start the engine and listen for the fuel pump to prime the rail. If you don't here anything from the fuel pump then chances are its shot and needs to be replaced. The ECU triggers the relay except at the priming sequence. -
Renix ECUs interchange

Yeah I don’t know if applying 13+ volts to the ISA was good for it. The ECU doesn’t have a built in surge protector. Thinking on it, 12v probably gets to the ECU with all that other electrical in front of it before the 14 charging volts does and the ISA is probably a 12V motor too. So the 13+ volts straight through the ECU to control the ISA probably didn’t help. Which makes sense why the tool existed. Miracle that person didn’t destroy their own ECU. The MS-1700 tool probably would’ve been able to control the ISA or at least read data on it from those ports. -

Absolute carnage of the resistors. Thats impressive. Would you mind posting this link to the adjustment procedure of the ISA. Kinda want to verify the validity of it(with AMC books). On a side note you are one of the few people to really mess up a Renix ECU. If you ever have to adjust the ISA again, just unplug it from the engine harness and let the engine scream with a tach, REM or the dash tach to adjust to 3500 RPM, that's usually how I do it and have no issues afterwards. AMC had a special tool back in the day called the Elb.99 something like that, that would plug directly into the ISA and let you adjust it from there. Course all the tool really was was a way to control it via power, ground and a switch. Could easily be made at home now that i think about it. Never seen the tool in person. Shame there really isn't any old Jeep dealers out here. -
Kinda obscure of a design but interesting. I feel if AMC was more successful and didn't succumb to the Chrysler buy out we could've very much seen stuff like that from AMC being proud of that system.

Ugh. The catalog can be tedious sometimes. I can look under YJ but yet it still shows all the ECU's for the SJ, YJ, XJ and MJ's in one page. I have never seen a YJ computer for the 2.5L, but if it has the same connection plug for the ECU then it should work in our trucks. That being said, the YJ is an interesting animal for the 2.5L TBI. It uses the same exact setup all the way down to the ECU operations but who knows if the ECU is the same. 87-90 2.5L ECU's can be had, there might be a couple at AMC salvage and even some guys on here who moved away from their 2.5L might still have the ECU. There should even be some reman ECU's out there too. -
Wall hanger then?
-
Aw hell yess a muscle grill J-truck! If ever in the OEM bumper market(But that front bumper looks to be in great shape), apparently old square body chevy trucks flipped upside down fits really well with those SJ's(at least the front does). That off-road/weekend warrior Wagoneer on Jay Lenos garage taught me that one. But nice fricken score!! Need more pics and a good cleaning.

Alternator Recommendation
eaglescout526 replied to WahooSteeler's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Honestly, smart money would put money towards any delco part that will fit our Jeeps. Delco makes GM's stuff so you can't go wrong with them when buying aftermarket parts. Nope, no reman or new Mopar 4.0L Renix alts. -
Alternator Recommendation
eaglescout526 replied to WahooSteeler's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Delco/Remy is the OEM alt supplier for our Renix engines. I would avoid AutoZone. We kept having a company come in a replace their power steering pump every two months because it was an AutoZone reman and the company was too cheap to go with something good like a Mopar unit. I could look and see what's left of the Mopar alts but I don't think there's much left around. -
That's my kind of level of detailing right there. Nice job! If you want to go the extra mile, take the door handle screws and paint them black to blend in better and not look out of place.
-
Be sure to register the truck. Looks like you have an auto 2.5L. Rare bird. Wonder if its got the A999 or the AW4
-
Lol there it goes.

Hey that's weird it didn't @ me for some reason. Welcome to owning that glorious Renix 2.5L. PN for that hose is 53002877. But its no longer available. Honestly its just a hose similar to what all the old carbed stuff would use.

If you can't buy it, make it: Cupholder
eaglescout526 replied to fiatslug87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Oh yeah I did that too. I think it was Rylee144 who did that one from amazon where he got it the lid to tuck under the seat itself. I was more referring to something from the factory. -
It seems the main site only really shows the signatures. I know mobile browsing doesnt. Not sure about the app.

Its a shame the bench seat never really had anything to accommodate the same way buckets did. At least it would've been cool if the mini consoles could've had something. -
Build date says 1986. In service date says 1985. How does a vehicle get put into service before its built? Which is why the theory of Chrysler putting in some data backwards has come up as plausible.
