Ugh, nothing worse than having to repaint after a new paint job. I've also noticed sub-par quality on the aftermarket 97+ header panel that I installed on my truck prior to paint. Half of the mounting bolts broke off just like yours (nothing a little bondo couldn't fix!) and the top portion doesn't fit perfect either. Not worth repainting for me now, but will swap in OEM if I ever need to replace it.

Made some great progress the past few weeks with installing the front axle, front suspension, and steering. Went with Wide Open Design custom aluminum steering links with 1 ton TRE's along with CavFab OTA track bar bracket. I'm really happy with how the steering geometry lines up with everything. Also got the Quadratec Hardrock wheels (wider version of the stock Rubicon wheels): Remaining to do: Clean up the rear half of the frame and get it painted. Pull out the rear axle and install SOA brackets. Measure for shocks (ideally with maximum travel) -- will be testing this beforehand. Re-upholster the headliner and visors and get them installed. Install correct weather stripping on the doors. Once all this is done, I'll likely be getting it re-geared to 4.56 with a front e-locker. I think that will be ideal with these 33's.

Ha! If only I had found them when I needed to make one. Plus they don't do the under-hood emissions sticker... And they are in Europe...

Really excited to see how this turns out. Also, I can really appreciate having the intake and exhaust manifolds on opposite sides of the engine. For that fuse block, you can actually buy replacement terminals from Del City and just swap them over (assuming the plastic isn't too far gone).

Been making some slow and steady progress on the truck. I've got most of the suspension parts accumulated and have been cleaning up the fender wells in preparation of installing the new front axle. Before: And after: Still debating on whether or not to run fender liners or pool noodles... Also have a bunch of brand new and reconditioned parts ready to install once the paint dries. 5.5" RE lift springs, Core 4x4 adjustable short arms, WJ knuckles and brakes, CavFab OTA track bar w/ RE bracket, freshly painted front driveshaft and axles (with new u-joints). Front axle with new ball joints, upper control arm bushings, and ARB cover (will be doing e-locker when I eventually re-gear). You can also see the Quadratec Hardrock wheels in the background (same style as I currently have, but wider and with better offset). Hoping to have the truck back together and on 4 wheels before the end of the year. Will then switch to the rear end for SOA to match the front lift.

I got a dash from the junkyard from a 95 or 96 XJ in near-mint condition. Painted it grey to match the rest of my interior. There are good ones out there in the JY, just need to get a newer one that wasn't exposed to too much sun.

It depends on what your goals are. What will you be using the Comanche for? You also really need to think about unibody strength with axles that big.

While it's fun to point blame, the bill actually had bipartisan support in Congress (that's how it passed). The additional $2B appropriation after the first $1B was quickly exhausted even passed the Senate 91–5. That being said, it was an extremely costly program and likely did not achieve the goal of reducing emissions and getting old cars off the road (traded in vehicles needed to achieve less than 18 mpg, while newly-purchased vehicles only had to hit 22 mpg). Investing in improving infrastructure and green power systems in the country would have been a much better use of funds.

I'd love to know more about what rear axle it's running as well as how they spliced the cab to the camper frame. I also enjoy the fact that they took off the "4x4" emblems and stuck them on the side of the camper... despite it now being 6x6...

Head down to your local pick-n-pull. They are the same ones used on Cherokees 84-01 IIRC.
