Bored out throttle body
ghetdjc320 replied to jamespwsullivan's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Higher comp ratio and an updated head design such as the Edelbrock in combination with cam, intake exhaust and TB’s are good places to start. Of course a stroker kit can also add some displacement. There is a decent amount to be gained on a 4000cc engine though. It’s just been my observation that certain TB and cam choices on a stock 4.0 can improve your overall HP numbers but do little to improve torque and/or move it too high in the RPM range. But ultimately, a good running stockish 4.0 benefits greatly from proper gearing. It’s by far the best bang for the buck as the gears are you’re torque multiplier. -
Bored out throttle body
ghetdjc320 replied to jamespwsullivan's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The taper in the throttle body helps improve velocity and contributes to that low end torque. Jeff does a great job boring TB’s and I’ve ran several from him but the torque band always shifted higher. Painless performance made a “perfect” throttle body that maintained a nice taper but opened up the bore further. With supporting mods, it’s a nice setup. -

True. The Holley mid-mount to me is the best overall solution *if* it fits. Jeff at Novak thought it would fit but may need to swap the larger novak fan to the other side. This tc pump setup from PSC also struck me as interesting. Supposed to be for an LS3 which is a very similar configuration: https://www.pscmotorsports.com/psc-pk1871-ls3-m.html It seems that, even though there are a lot of aftermarket accessory drives, they have yet to crack this configuration to get a remote or even integral PS reservoir setup. Id love to just move the alternator to the passenger side head, but again, no one seems to make that setup in the -1 corvette spacing. -

Curious what your thoughts are in regards to flipping the pump over so the inlet would run to the outside. I keep trying to come up with a way to eliminate the vette reservoir to reduce intake interference... It appears that your PS pump is held in with 2 bolts. I was speaking with Blaine (Savvy, BMB and Vanco) about this, and he suggested trying to find a way to fit this reservoir near the alternator: https://www.chasebays.com/products/chase-bays-new-dual-baffled-power-steering-reservoir?_pos=2&_sid=92fea590c&_ss=r -
Gotcha. Been looking for an alternative ps reservoir to the vette unit as it interferes with the intake tubing in my setup. Let me know if it works for you or if you come up with an alternative

@Limeyjeeper Does that blue one look like the Holley mid-mount setup? -
My thoughts were in connection with the PS reservoir. Do you happen to know what you’re going to be using yet?
-
Awesome, thanks! Do you know what offset you’re using? Looks like stock -1 corvette offset but hard to tell. What bracket setup is that?
-
Out of curiosity, is you ps pump mounted below the alternator or what is your accessory configuration?

That’s odd indeed. They netted 3” over stock 4wd springs for me that were still in decent shape. My original springs were 3+1 4wd springs. The 1280 4 leaf pack is also what I got from GS Edit: I do wonder if they changed the arch of the springs as they were made aware that they were not in spec for replacement springs. The free arch was too high and given the high spring rate, lifted most trucks.
-
Not sure what to say but I netted 3” using the above method. And it never settled down more then maybe a 1/4”. Were they the same springs?

Custom Gaskets for HVAC

Any updates on these? I’ve got the dimensions and vector traced files for these and the MJ rears as well if you want them. -
Just a quick note for future reference, the general spring 4 leaf and 5 leaf packs both net the same lift at around 3” over stock 4wd springs. The difference with the 5 leaf is the added overload spring but it doesn’t change static ride height with an empty bed.

Where Can I Get Window Parts?
ghetdjc320 replied to Traveler's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
PPR makes good replacement seals. For the best fit, try to find oem. -
The dw200 is still a lot of overkill for a 4.0. Get the Bosch one posted by stroker or grab a replacement Carter. Unless you’re running a much larger engine, it’s a good idea to stick with a pump you can find a replacement for at the local auto parts store.

Anyone out there with an MJ 44 rear axle? Truck is located in northwest Arkansas. LMK what you have. Ratio is irrelevant

Comanche mash-up in Utah

IMHO that’s what I’d call an abomination -
It outflows the stock pump by quite a lot. It’s not terribly complicated but it’s not a direct swap by any means. There used to be a Bosch pump that would adapt their turbine style pump into an XJ hanger. For a simple direct swap, Carters are the go to for most.

Can someone make a pattern of headliner board
ghetdjc320 replied to fiddlermj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Do you want measurements of it as a flat piece? Reason I ask is there are a lot of compound curves in the headliner. If you have an original one that still hold a true shape, you can fiberglass over it. Seen it done and it turns out quite nice so longe as it’s finished with something else. You do know you can also just order one from sms headliners correct? -

I’ll have to measure pinion angle once the front once castor is set. Ideally the pinion will be at zero. The actual driveshaft angle should be pretty decent with the HP front. When I first test fit everything, the drivetrain angle was about 6-7 degrees. Ultimately I’d say the transmission was able to be raised up around 1.25” and maintain a really nice uniform gap all around once the tcase housing was cleaned up. Essentially did a tummy tuck. I’d imagine the smaller np231 wouldn’t have this issue or one could just run the drivetrain angle as it sits but your front output yoke would be angled up a bit more than ideal. Keep in mind that I still have a tiny bit of factory rake -

An interesting tidbit of tech from Novak regarding LS swaps in MJ/XJ platforms: ideal engine slope angle is 4* down towards the rear but up to 7* is considered acceptable. This can mostly be adjusted at the transmission mount. I’ve noticed that between the Novak engine and tranny mounts and the quick draw bellhousing, the ax15 can sit quite high in the trans tunnel. I was able to remove some unneeded tabs on the NP242 and tuck it up also nice and tightly. I plan on fitting the Barnes XJ skid plate on it at some point and will report back with the fitment (still a few months away).
