Wanting metal Tail light boxes? Possible group buy?
whowey replied to brimy311's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Those look like crap warmed over... I have seen a few of those laying along the trails at The Cliffs and Badlands... they tear off against the trees and make some pretty good holes in the body in the process. -

Turning a parked beater into a decent daily driver . . .

The AMC 2.5 is basically a 4.0l with two less cylinders... so yes the AMO is fine. And no you don't want to switch back to XL. -
GL5 gear lubes contain sulfur, which is what damages the bronze synchros. But GL-3 gear lube was and is the correct fluid for the AX-15. Since GL-3 is no longer available, GL-4 which still contains no sulfur is now the correct fluid. Chrysler has a history of completely blowing the fluid recommendation for these trannies. They are the ones that started putting the GL-5 gear lubes in that damaged the synchros. Now after the AX-15's have their warranties expire.. only now Chrysler recommends to use motor oil. The same exact situation happened with the AW-4 fluid recommedation. Up until Apr 08 Chrysler recommends Dex III in all AW-4's, going so far as putting a note in TSB's specifically exempting the AW-4. But in Apr 08, when the 2001 7/70 warranties would have been expiring.. they suddenly reverse course and start recommending ATF+4. Doesn't leave me with much confidence in any recommendations for Jeeps.....

Mike... I will send you a pm with the complete explanation but the high zinc formulas are what you want for the 4.0l. -

I think Rob has chosen kerosene after talking to me the other night... I believe he saw it as a cost and availability issue. Even though propane is probably more available than kerosene.... Several sellers in our area have 24 hour availability on propane. I have almost the exact heater he is looking at... its propane and I love mine. He doesn't like the fact that 20lb grill tanks only last about 4 or 5 hours at full throttle. But you don't run it full throttle all the time. The only by-products of a correctly running propane burner is Carbon Dioxide and water vapor. Not ammonia or Carbon Monoxide. But you need adequate oxygen flow or the heater will not correctly function. The scenting agent will leave some smell though.... Using kerosene... you cannot paint in a garage while running a kerosene heater. Paints, enamel auto paints in particular will pick up the kerosene smell.

What about the ones with Ben Franklin?????

Rob... Propane...less fumes..about half the cost... easier to find a replacement tank on Sunday afternoon. Host a wrench day at your place.. I will bring mine up for you too try...

RICK!!!! You probably have been back for a long time.. But its cool to see another old hand around...

It should start feeling like a new truck... you have replaced just about every hillbillyed up piece on the thing.....

Fuel filler neck.... the piece that runs from the place you put the gas nozzle to the gas tank... B-pillar.... The part of the cab right behind the front doors. A Comanche only has an A and B pillars. The A -pillar is the part of the cab by the windshield. An XJ may have a C-pillar or a D-pillar. Start at the front of the vehicle looking at the side. The part of the cab infront of the door, holding the windshield is the A-pillar. Now just count them off going back. behind the front door is the B-pillar. If you have a 4 door vehicle.. the part behind the back door is the C-pillar.. etc.... The fuel sender is inside the fuel tank. When you pop off the hoses and retaining ring, the part that slides out is the sender and the pump rides inside the sender. The reasons they tell you to grab this stuff is that it is all Comanche specific. It wasn't used on any other vehicles that we(as a community) know about. So it is hard to find in usable shape.

That is AWESOME.... its a pretty good replica of the Thriftside beds on the J-trucks.

I had a set front and back on my old snow plow truck, with the on-board control kit.... Two things to remember.... First, careful of any object, debris, or other parts getting to the bags. They are kinda expensive to replace and a bit of a pain to do. Second... Keep them clean... environmental hazards like road salt, water, dirt, mud, etc. can damage the bags no matter what the kit sellers tell you. Airlift doesn't do a particularly good job of educating their dealers on different vehicles. The local one here kept trying to tell me I couldn't use the kit that has the bags inside the coils on the back of my ZJ. They said I needed the frame bolt kit because of my leaf sprung rear....

Lousy rotten technique displayed in both instances. The owners got exactly what they asked for by not controlled the recovery of their own Jeeps. A few minutes of shovel work would have done wonders in both cases... A special dose of foolishness for the Wrongler owner.... His winch cable isn't the same color as the mud...obviously it wasn't pulled out.....

The yard we hit is kinda schizo in how they turn them over.. Some are in and out very quickly.. others sit.. There is a VERY clean 91 XJ that has been there for three months at least.. and it was still almost complete minus the radiator.

First... Sodium Silicate doesn't harden with heat..... It hardens when it cools. It get more fluid when it heats. We use ALOT of it in the concrete construction industry... Second.. the deadline was not 90 days on CFC vehicles to be crushed. It was 180 days(six months) and there has been a big push to extend that deadline as CFC really overwhelmed yards with vehicles. Third... you cannot sell any part lubricated with oil.. OR a frame(or unibody) of a CFC vehicle.

You guys live in Kookafornia... do you really need to go the JY to find those?? I mean I used to see them right in the airport....

First time i heard that, So AMSOIL dealer ? . . . Me too . . . I'm my best customer, rather i'm about my only customer. . . Mike I love old big iron... just can't afford to have one.. or a place to keep it. The older I get the less I am into muscle cars, even rare ones. I have to pay for my Jeep problem somehow... ;)

Pat... we already talked about this... when you got the 35's. Lower it... save the money....

No flatbed MJ? :( Rob L. Nope, that one has disappeared... I'm going to guess we start seeing parts of it listed for too much money on CL in the next few weeks. I'm a little surprised you aren't at work today. We have 3-4 inches on the ground today with it still coming down pretty good.

I got a little bit of cash and A couple of Visa gift cards from my parents and my outlaws.. My kids bought me The Life of Brian on DVD. My wife bought me a refurb computer. So now I have to decide whether to get some MJ parts...or a Lock-Rite for the front of the wheeling XJ. I am absolutely the hardest person in the house to buy for. I normally don't tell anyone what I want.. and if I do I change my mind.. or go buy it three weeks before Christmas. I wouldn't give presents or get them.. But its not really an option with my wife and kids.

You do realize that 125 is the channel where they have non-stop infomerical types of programming??? They had the all Bobby Flay thing a couple of weeks ago sponsored by Helmann's Mayo... Found some good looking recipes on there... And when the new JK came out it was the Jeep Channel for a few days.

I would be VERY concerned about doing business with them. First I found this... http://www.rockymountainextreme.com/sho ... hp?t=67210 Second.. they have an image on their website that is copywritten by Amsoil, Inc. Their E-bay store(and location) reminds me of Mako Off-Road. Cheap knock-off parts, incorrect descriptions and listings. Same kinds of complaints.. crappy service..don't maintain good communication with customers.
