What are folks opinions of the 2009-10 Cadillac CTS
whowey replied to jeepdoggydogB's topic in The Pub
Hello Rob, I totally agree except that the newest MB's reliability ratings aren't that great according to JD Powers. I know it is hard to beleive but the Cadillac CTS received an 8/10 while the Nissan and others have scored less. I llooked at an older S500 and the best years we can get an acceptable realibility rating is a 2004 when they still made them in Germany. I'd believe it... Government Motors has spent tons of cash bringing their luxury line up to par with the foreigns.. My Dad's GF has an 08(i think) STS.. it is one damn nice car and a real improvement over the other caddy's she has had in the past. -

according to google, that adds an hour and 20 minutes to the drive. :( Ouch. sounds like a lose-lose choice to me. possible traffic time, or guaranteed drive time. :( :( :( Umm... that's guaranteed traffic time vs. a nice drive in the country.. The Kennedy Expressway(I-90) is under construction right now... and to make things more lovely... The Eisenhower Expressway(I-290) construction starts on Thursday(Apr 1)... Sooo both of the more direct routes are under construction The Tri-state Tollway(I-294) has some spot resurfacing that is going to be starting the next week or so.. but most of that is supposed to be overnight work. And those tolls are killers. The Tri-state(I-294) to the Reagan Tollway(I-88) isn't bad... but its all tollway. And if you don't have I-pass get ready to get soaked. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Inter ... 29_map.png -

why is it hard to shift into 2nd gear?
whowey replied to BigDaddy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Huh? AFAIK Chrysler recommended GL-3 for the AX-15 right up until they changed to motor oil, and they did that basically because it's nearly (if not completely) impossible to find GL-3 gear lube. And what's this about the AW4? When did they ever recommend anything for that besides Dexron/Mercon? Related question (sort of): Has anyone tried that Pennzoil Synchromesh manual transmission lube in an AX-15 ... or, for that matter, in a BA 10/5? It's formulated for the NVG 3550 and 4500 trannies, but why would it not work in other manual transmissions? Chrysler recommended GL-5 lubes for the AX-15 at one point.. they later rescinded it as they didn't like replacing synchros in warranty... There are owners manuals out there with the bad recommendation in them.. I'm very surprised you never read any of the info covering that on Naxja. In Oct. 2008 Chrysler changed the recommendation for the AW-4 from Dex/Merc to ATF+4.. for ostensibly the same reason as changing the GL recommendation..They no longer wanted to purchase Dex/Merc for their service centers. Ninja Edit... Did some searching of the Naxja archives.. Found a thread from 2003... Eagle.. you posted this...May 1, 2003 3) According to DaimlerChrysler, the AX-4, AX-5 and AX-15 should use the Mopar product meeting spec MS9684, which is rated as a 75W90 GL-3 lubricant. HOWEVER, according to the engineer at Pennzoil (who claims to have all the tech bulletins from DaimlerChysler, that product should be used only in the AX-series trannies 1998 and newer, and the older ones should use 75W90 GL-5 gear lube (which is what the '94 FSM calls for. -

whowey replied to BigDaddy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
They never made the GL-3... they wanted to reduce the number of things they had to buy from outside sources... as long as you reduce the fluid change interval it won't be as bad... But... the correct fluid is available.. and we already know that Chrysler completely blew the recommendation for the AX-15(and the AW-4). -

Well.. if you listen to Chrysler the AX-15 no longer requires any GL... they recommend motor oil now... -

Well.. maybe I can convince Correy into showing the purty yellow synchro rings in his AX-5 rebuilding project... -

The AX 15 in my 1990 had balky shifts into second and reverse all the time, and flat out did not want to shift into those gears when cold. I drained the oil that was in it and replaced it with Red Line MTL. Now there are no problems at all, even when cold. I'm gonna be swappin oil this week. Did you put in the standard MTL? I was just perusing Redline's web site and they have a lot of options in fluids nowadays. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on which one to go with for an AX5, or whatever it is in my 86 4X4 5 speed. I think I'll pick up the 75W140 for the rear diff while I am at it. http://www.redlineoil.com/Products.aspx?pcid=7 Yes.. regular MTL is pefectly fine for your AX-5.. as is the MT-90. Amsoil MTG is another choice. It is what I recommend to my customers. The key is to look for a fluid that still meets the GL-3/4 specification.. but does not meet GL-5. GL-5 fluids are the ones that contain too much sulfur for the bronze synchros in your tranny. -
A must see .... TRIP PICS FINALLY UP! Pg 6 *****************

NOOOOOOOOOOO..... Those two cheap assed, cherry picking bastards don't deserve one bit of that collection.... A collection like that needs to go to people who honor the dedication and desire that it took to create it. -
Yes, you could buy the body kit on the after market. There was a seller on E-bay that sold them for some time. Also there was a handful of makers for body kits for Cherokees. The front portion would be exactly the same as the Comanche.

Where to buy bulk sodium bicarbonate a.k.a baking soda
whowey replied to pilotblake's topic in The Pub
HF sells a specific soda blaster unit... It is pretty cheap... I have been looking for an excuse to get one... -
Hey... one finally arrived at your house not being towed in.... The neighbors are gonna poop themselves..

Can't say I'm the least bit upset that Bill Self lost... Good on court coach... But he recruited to win this year... Typical lousy program building from him.

Pictures of Comanches with Toppers.
whowey replied to knever3's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I just want to shake my head...My old boss at work had not one but two Comanches. An 87 he got new with a roll bar that he had a cap put on... and later a 92 with a hi-top Brahma top on it. Both were supposedly MJ specific. Both trucks ended up getting crushed when he moved and had all of his collected crap scrapped rather than deal with selling it. -
No studs allowed in Illinois... The Michelins on the Waggy are in good shape.. but I might pick up a set of Tread Wrights or if I don't blow all my cash on owning 4 Jeeps a set of BFG AT's for it.

With my purchase of a Waggy.. I have a new project to work on... Quite a number of the CC members have pretty good tastes in auto project details. So I want to get your opinions on some details. This Waggy will be mostly for cruising around in and towing my XJ/MJ on a trailer. So a monster wheels and tires aren't going to happen... So I have a couple of options available to me. It is tough to find many options in 6-lug wheels. Option A. The ones that came on the Waggy or Option B. A set of alloys I got a couple years back with some tires I bought Both are aluminum, so I won't gain a rolling weight reduction. And both are 7 inches wide, so no width gain or loss.
-
There are still quite a number around. There were some many piled up that many big processors applied for and got some extensions on the deadline.
-
I have them on my XJ... I can't complain.. the brake pedal is the same it always has been.. But I still have the old crappy MC/Booster on mine. Shooting the fluid out of the MC though sounds like something is clogging up in there and the fluid is coming back instead of going through it.

In the seemingly never-ending search for a new truck... Could I ask someone a favor of running one of these for me... The quick check stuff shows two different number of items.. and the dealer has told me there are two VERY differing amounts of miles on it in the two calls I have made to them... 2FTDX17WXVCA16591
