Can Spell Comanche

Can Spell Comanche (2/11)

  1. JK dana 44 is a much better unit than the TJ d44. bull. it's wider, with no change in axle tube diameter. geometrically, it's weaker because there is more leverage against the differential housing. trussed (properly), yes it's stronger than a stock tj44 up front. stock...nope, not a chance. :shake: JeepcoMJ: Wider = weaker. Also the fact if you look at my list I said keep it the same width. Hence the TJ D44 fitting right up for it.
  2. Eagle makes a very interesting point and :agree: I think I buy more stuff than the average person and have always had a problem when dealing with people on buying their stuff. If it's good quality or desirable and the price is fair there is no problem. When it's a piece of sh*t and the price is out of sight is something else. Usually I just thank them for their time and walk away. Don't p*ss somebody off. You may want to deal with them later. More than once I have ordered some *sshole off my property when they ticked me off. I offer something for a fair price and they insult me with a counter offer. One thing I have found that works pretty good for me is to keep the conversation friendly, Don;t get aggressive or show annoyance. Don't tell them it's not worth what they're asking. Just say it's a little more than you can afford. If it's something I want but think the price is to high I tell them to go ahead and try and sell it for what they're asking. However if they haven't sold it within a week- 10 days, I tell them to call me and I will give them $XX for it. I find this works for me over half the time. Every body likes to dicker. It's part of the game. Just be reasonable about it. Happy shopping. Jim :smart: I am with ya Jim. I take it a step further though, and have them a business card of mine with the price I want to pay, and my phone number. I tell them, that if you call this number, you are guaranteed to get this much when I come back. It works great. Its like giving someone a check, and saying hold on to this for me. Almost like they have the cash in hand... So when they get looking at that card, they see the money in their hand. I suggest everyone do this. Rob L. That method works even better when done in front of their wives.
  3. Capitals are the only area team I like, and they are killing me this series. :fs1:
  4. Heck I would be happy if they just started building them again. But design wise. 1. Full Frame - keep width the same 2. Extended Cab option, small bench or jump seats 3. 6 or 8ft bed difference in the ext cab option 4. Dana 44 Rear 5. Rubicon package, front D44 (TJ) with locker options 6.a. Base Model is 5spd 4cyl 4x4 (no truck should be 2wd). 6.b. Engine options 4cyl / 6cyl / 8cyl / small diesel - V8 can be a special edition only. Diesel needs to be a reliable small one for what we are building to stay in the Comanche sizing. 6cyl should not be a dang mini-van engine. Bring back the tried and true 4.0L's. 6.c. Other options - Automatic / Bench or Bucket Seating / Off-road package (beefier suspension parts / no carpet) 7. Good tow rating, let me pull at least a pop-up camper or a small boat. 8. Stock tire size should be started at 31" All-terrains. Rubicon Edition starts with a 32" Mud-Terrain and full skids. 9. Rust-Proof :clapping: 10. Swing out bumper tire carrier option Otherwise styling keep it the same.
  5. The new FJ Cruisers do have visibility issues. Driven a friend's a few times and didn't really like it. The new JK 4drs Like and hate it. :D Likes SFA Optional Front and Rear D44's Optional Front and Rear Lockers and Sway bar disconnects Actually fairly roomy for a 6' 350lbs guy like myself Optional 4.10's Dislikes Those optionals are only available on the Rubicon models. If you get the tow package you get 3.73 gears, so order the no tow package and just add an after market one. Lack of a V8 option from factory. Overall though, they do make for nice rigs and I wouldn't turn down one given to me. If your mom wants a daily (and seeing your in Canada) with 4x4 I would say it is a solid choice.
  6. Cheaper to keep her. And to warn ya she does read the forum and has an account too. That and she knows engines, so hard to pull one over on her like that. I'll figure out what I want to do with it this week.
  7. correction the $1200 was the engine not installed. :fs1: Alright who has the build sheet to do the 3.4L swap.
  8. :agree: too. The only thing that needs done extra to it would be the flywheel machining right? :help: Its hard to put one over on the wife though saying I need this and that when she likes doing this stuff as much as me.
  9. Rob, if she wouldn't go for the 350, I doubt she would even humor a 4BT discussion. Well just got the quote from the shop. A certified rebuilt 2.8L installed with 3yr warranty for $1200. I told the wife to call him back about a 3.4L, cause if it isn't much more I might as well.
  10. It's an Auto and I'll keep it auto. I know 93-95 Camaro's are donor years for 3.4L's. What other donors are there for this so I can begin my junkyard calls?
  11. Couldn't you keep the jig and stuff and just use it on a one on one basis adding a 'custom charge' to the orders? Keeps you as a supplier, but also takes into account it's not a big ticket for you. Else like the others said, sell it to someone.
  12. Loss of compression, oil coming out of the crank shaft in the front. She left a mess on the side of the road. Should be getting a full estimate of the damage later today. Really I'm mainly venting and fishing for ideas of how to put her back on the road. Cause I don't want to scrap her, and unless I can show the wife I can find a reasonable cost solution, she will say scrap or sell it and get yourself another. Going to have to go get it from the shop its sitting out now and let it sit in the drive till I figure out what to do with her.
  13. So I get the new brake lines on the MJ and the engine decided she finally wanted to go. Now I'm looking at my options. Junkyard 2.8L 90 day warranty or something else. I know the 3.4L is a bolt in with a machining of the flywheel to neutrally balance it. What other options do I have out there? Remember all options have to gain a wife's approval and she has already nixed the 350sbc idea that floated in my brain. ;) 86 4WD Longbed If a 4.0L is an option, how much work am I looking at? I know the clip needs changing and possible firewall massaging with hammer. Cause my only other option is to sell it and buy another. I'm only using this as a light wheeler Green/very Light Blue camping vehicle. So I don't need to go extreme and was actually going to be fine with the 2.8L. So lets hear the opinions and see the writeup links.
  14. $6300 is a pretty good dang budget to work with. Is the preference for the 92 or newer for the Family Rollbar? 91's had the 4.0L HO as well. ;) I use http://www.searchtempest.com/ when I want to search multiple Craigslists in my area for specific items at the same time. You should be able to find one inside her price range. I know I've seen a few 97/98 with auto tranny and 4.0L go for less than $7k. Finding a YJ auto is very hard though.
  15. Also depends where your located. Cause if your close to certain people, you can get things cheap.
