Building My Dream Comanche
Torq_Shep replied to brandino's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I agree with the above. If you are going to do a full 4wd swap you will have a much easier time smashing a 4.0 into the 86 bay than trying to fit a Toyota v6. Nothing wrong with the 4.0 or the Toyota v6 (3400) but getting a donor cherokee is the way to go about that full swap. With that being said... you could also swap to a 3.4 GM v6 easily but that doesn't solve your man trans upgrade or 4x4 as easily. -
Those medications are the same ones used to treat bipolar. I was on like 3 or 4 different ones after an episode that left me in the hospital for a few days. I would get tremors and an occasional rash on my stomach. With that being said after 6 months to 1 year I noticed side-effects of most of those medications would go away as my body adjusted to them. Hopefully that is the same for you. Although I am no longer on them.

While I do not know for certain. All ZJ 4.0s I have seen are D35. Honestly, if it is in good shape I would grab it. I kind of like the ZJs.

Painting the instrument cluster bezel

All three of the eliminators I have owned have had the chrome lines. But all had black dash panels. -
Painting the instrument cluster bezel

Does anyone know if the eliminator ever came with anything other than the black dash? -
Yeah I messed around with it a bit. I am going to go buy the HF stud welder as I am too lazy to weld screws onto the body panel like I usually do. I think I can get it straight enough to be happy with putting a little filler over it vs. welding in a new piece.
-
I don't think the picture shows the extent of the damage. I have done a fair bit of body work and this is right on the edge of welding in a different piece.

If anyone has a drivers side B pillar segment from about 1.5 inches above the vent indent to about the bottom of the rear window frame I am interested.
-
Under 1/4 inch of bondo I found this... I can pop it out a bit better than the previous person but its pretty dinged up. Should I hunt for just this section of B pillar and weld it in or should I mess around with straightening and re-applying body filler? My guess is most of it would be under 1/4 inch but its pretty messed up.

Top corners of the rear windshield frame. They don't look rusted out but I am not sure those should be open?

While that is true the 3.4 has okay aftermarket support to make it comparable to the 4.0. I had one in a van, it was fine, not a 4.0 but not a bad engine by any means. Except getting the coolant system bled out. That was a pain.

So I bought the Team Cherokee REAR XJ hinge for the lower hinge on my drivers side door. I will take pictures of everything once I get it out in the sun and put a coat of primer over it. There is a small difference in the front and rear hinges on an XJ but apparently they work just fine on the front. The body side mount is tapered instead of square so there is slightly less weld contact. https://teamcherokee.com/rear-door-hinge-assembly-oem-cherokee-1984-1996/ This is definitely the cheapest way to replace your door hinges if you have already broken one off. Mine had massive wear on the inside half of the hinge. I could have redrilled them to a bigger pin but as one was already busted off I went this route for the bottom hinge. Top hinge is from another member on here but I could have used the rear XJ hinge for both hinges.

Happy Thanksgiving! Partner is at his parents place which gives me more time to squirrel away parts in the spare bedroom, roommate made turkey, potatoes, and okra so we had that for lunch (and probably for dinner). Other than that just working on the truck until Sunday. Got the drivers door hinges welded on, going to put the reinforcements in, then strip the cab and move it to the backyard for cab paint.

This makes my massively undersized 24x24 shop look lame!

Alamo Access in San Antonio has a 1993 XJ, an 86 MJ, a 1999 XJ, and a 199? ZJ.

I am removing my 3-panel rear slider (I believe it is OEM) and I split the gasket when I removed it. I can probably repair it but I was hoping someone might have a good one they would sell when I go to reinstall the slider.

Ended up buying Nason Primer and Basecoat to go below the PPG clear that I have.

I learned to drive in a 90 XJ Laredo. First vehicle was a 1994 2dr XJ AX15 4wd. Wanted a truck and learned about MJs and decided to sell the XJ to buy the MJ. Drove the MJ through college until I was too broke to pay tuition and sold it... fast forward to career with some amount of disposable income and like cycling through 20 some odd other vehicles, and MJs somehow keep getting purchased.
-
Isn't that everyone with 2 MJs? I have one torn to bits in the garage and one beat up one I drive around while I work on the other one.
-
I was thinking the same thing. Someday maybe I will have a Comanche that clean...
