  1. The word lever is not in the first post. I did re-read and see he's talking std trans, so that puts out the other cases.
  2. I throw out other possibilities to check that I have come across. Since the TVS cable was altered from the factory setting, I figured re-checking it wouldn't be a bad idea.
  3. Washing the heavily greasy motor. Rookie mistake, My first fuel injected Jeep
  4. Guess I forgot to ask if it had a dash 2wd to 4wd switch (that would be NP228 or NP229)
  5. two separate things. There is a trans control bit in the TPS. Water messes them up. TVS being adjusted is different.
  6. I'm talking about inside the sensor. Pressure washing the motor can force it in and the cleaning chemicals eat up the windings (found that out the hard way. Less than a week after a brand new sensor on my '86 Comanche)
  7. I throw in the air soft pellets in mine
  8. Sounds like you have an NP229
  9. Or spider gears went k :hateputers: aplooey
  10. Chrysler came up with retarding the cam timing on the HO to cut pinging by cutting the amount of air/fuel getting into the cylinder (AKA VE or Volumetric Efficiency) A trick not lost on the stroker guys.
  11. It's light enough that a beefed up 999 or 727 would work.
  12. corroded TPS can affect it too.
  13. Could be throttle position sensor got wet. I'd readjust the TVS cable tighter to see if it changes
  14. Ouch! Mine is in Seattle for $3500, I drive to Abbotsford once a month to see my Grandkids.
  15. If I found an MJ with 2.8L or 2.5L with 3 speed auto, I would look for a 904 from an 80-82 Eagle or Postal Jeep with GM 4 cyl (they have SBC bolt pattern) and bolt in a 4.3L V6 with EFI.
  16. You sure it's not a blown headgasket in the middle?
  17. Rockers can't be too tight. They're torqued down to zero lash, not adjusted to zero lash. I'm wondering what he bumped (now that we know it's no spark) C101 connector? TPS unplugged? Is this the same one making a knocking noise from the dist area?
  18. Why not find a reasonable priced motor and swap to LPG? I had no probs finding it for much less than gasoline in Canada (except Quebec)
  19. That's cool. Just make sure the balancer isn't oil soaked and the centering rubber isn't hanging out. It makes a BIG mess when they let go at freeway speeds (or high RPM) It took out the hood, battery, rad, mechanical fan, aux cooling fan, waterpump and destroyed the pulleys on the PS pump and alt in a Cherokee I saw on Hwy 2 this summer (my phone was dead or I'd have taken a pic of the mess) >8^O
  20. I was looking at a Toyota Motorhome with dually rear and thinking about this thread.
  21. Did you know there really used to be a cable driveshaft used years ago? I think it was 1930 or 1940 something Oldsmobile. It weighed nearly as much as the motor!
  22. Someone is supposed to come by this evening and buy it from me for $750. (just the motor with no accessories)
  23. Check voltage going to the coil?
  24. Dist drives the oil pump If it was loose because someone forgot to tighten the bolts, it can drop down and seize the motor from no oil pressure. Dist gear can also be wiped out by a bad/loose oil pump.
  25. If the belt (especially Vee belts) are worn, it can slip and give you no PS. Ditto if the harmonic balancer is spinning on the rubber under load. Does the voltmeter read suddenly low too?
