  1. heater control possibly unplugged?
  2. '91 was the same as my MJ's old one.
  3. I'm still getting 17 mpg (or 15 while hauling 2200 lbs of gravel through the mountains to my cabin)
  4. I have the harness from the '89 MJ I just scrapped. I put aside the factory harness for the Marchal fog lights I just put on with the chrome front bumper that's extended to hide a winch.
  5. If no vacuum gets to the ball, none gets to the heater controls either!
  6. I have the problem where the wipers don't stop where they should and just run when on intermittent and that is the park in the motor is worn out (I have spares but it works soooo....)
  7. You can avoid modding the booster by grabbing the pedal from a newer XJ (95 up I think) That's what I did with mine.
  8. I took the one off my '73 J4000's column which is now on the scrap truck. (5 ton '71 IH Loadstar dump bed)
  9. I hauled another 2200 lb load of gravel yesterday. To my cabin this time (10 miles of Hwy 2 and 4.5 miles of pot holed driveway)
  10. neither work with the other. The '89 MJ I parted had an HO plate with Renix sensor and it just misfired so the guy I got it from gave up on it.
  11. The '89 was 7mm. I had to borrow the socket from my buddy (engine harness is on my for sale list. No C101 connector and for AW4)
  12. That works for carbed rigs. The timing is controlled by the computer on the 4.0L and limited by the knock sensor which can mistake internal engine noise for ping.
  13. If the timing chain actually broke, there will be more damage (bent valves for one) You have to count the links on the chain and gears to line them up plus make sure you get the kit with the tensioner. I did one before I broke my shoulder last year and it was a pita!
  14. yes
  15. photos and a signed certification
  16. On the slave, try adding Crisco cooking oil. I did that when mine blew out and got another year's driving out of it (screwed the clutch master and line, but I had planned an auto swap anyways)
  17. I'm on several IH boards. Someone there would love those parts! I'm about to post my '71 Loadstar 1800 for sale/parts. 345 5 speed and 2 speed axle. It could carry/tow 4 Comanches and hardly blink!
  18. With my shortbox 4.0L AW4, 3.73 gears and 33" tires I hauled a Metric Tonne (yes, 2200 lbs) up a VERY steep hill from a stand still at the bottom and I was able to hit 35 (speed limit) before the top without using low range.

225,000 on my MJ now and previous 4 cyl had 300,000 when the speedo quit and the guy I sold it to blew the head gasket. I ended up getting it back and swapped the motor. My son took the old motor, replaced the head gasket and ran it in his MJ till a rod came out the side (he punctured the oil pan wheeling and was trying to get home)
  20. I have been hit from behind 7 times since I moved to Seattle while waiting or stopping for a red light. 2 were even caught on the red light video
  21. I have a Honcho with title and the PO passed away so the state won't allow me to transfer it because the right to sign from someone ceases when they die.
  22. Torquey enough to, say, pull stranded people out of the snow in the winter possibly? I've been wondering how well it performs compared to its larger option. I drove to Ouray, CO with my Comanche weighing in at 6500lbs (canopy, tools, spare parts, 3 spare tires, food, water and 3 adults). That was through the mountains at minimum speed of 55 mph too. In low range the TBI 2.5L had even more power to spare. The turd point hate? Not so much!
  23. Starter hanging loose? Cracked flexplate?
  24. Ground on the block is loose or the ignition switch slider snapped in half inside (just fixed mine)
  25. Late '86 ones were internal balanced and OK. Earlier ones were external with skinny rod bearings that died easy. I'd go 2.5 with TBI or MPFI from a TJ. More power than 2.8 and easier to work on.
