  1. When I converted my '87 to auto, I used the harness underhood from a '90 XJ and got rid of the C101 connector at the same time, but I haven't hooked the battery up yet.
  2. certainly. I doubt 37" tires are enough to find the relative strength difference between the two. :rotf: On the semifloat, I was spinning around with my son in his Jtruck in the snow and we went over a small curb sideways. There was a small clunk and the truck stopped moving. I thought he blew the spider gears. When the inside of the tire hit the curb it pulled just hard enough that it sheared the C clip holding piece off (just like the Dana 35s do) No more C clip diffs for me!
  3. It could also be carbon in the intake or exhaust valve jamming it open, bent pushrod, broken valve spring, bad plug and a couple other things I can't recall off the top of my head. Ah! Stuck open EGR valve! (that's where carbon chunks sometimes come from)
  4. Looking for a completed project or the start of one?
  5. Life kinda got in the way and I actually had some energy for a change so I have been trying to knock out some of my projects while I can. I finished fixing my van and it is sold (waiting 3 weeks for the rest of the cash. I got a '92 Grumman as down payment) I've been building my Eagle wagon (still need to swap in an XJ rear diff and fix the valve cover, but it has a 727/NP229 in it) and getting rid of my other "toys". My '82 Chev C20 with 454/TH400/4.10s on 33" tires went away (that cut my fuel consumption in half) and I helped my son move at the same time. I'm organizing all my parts and stuff to get ready to move by the end of the year (going to the swap meet next month with a fully loaded Grumman P3500) so I have my '87 MJ awaiting time to finish (sitting in my buddy's garage and soon to come home when the van goes away). My '89 MJ project (making an extended cab short box out of a longbed MJ) may go away and become someone else's dream. Not sure yet what's happening with the pumpkin ('68 Travelall) but an AMC 360 or 290 may go in place of the BG241 6 cyl. That or a 4.0L with EFI (I can use the 2wd AW4 from the project MJ to do that) That will leave the 2 FSJs (Honcho stepside and Black Jack monster truck) that I will decide which to keep. Everything else was hauled or is about to be hauled (including my 5 ton '71 IH flatbed hauler) to scrap. Then I have to decide which to keep, but I think it will be done by sales attrition. Whatever isn't sold I'll keep. One of the Jtrucks stays and whichever of the Eagle, MJ or pumpkin that's left stays. So, how busy is YOUR summer? The score: 1 Eagle wagon parted 1 Datsun 720 made into a trailer 1 '66 Travelall cut in half and front part about to go away (was going to use the 304 for a V8 conversion in the '68 but ga$ price$ went up!) '82 Chev C20 sold (bye bye 454 TH400) 1 '88 XJ parted '82 Spirit sold (actually swapped with a buddy that is helping me get stuff done and we are converting it to 4x4 like the Eagle) '71 Loadstar 5 ton flatbed dump about to drive in with one BIIIIG load of scrap then hand over the keys. Cleaning the yard of all excess spare parts and get ready to sell by fall. I still need to flatten the 5th wheel travel trailer (after all the parts are out of it) and make a car hauler out of it. Just a little busy I guess.
  6. I took the valve off, rerouted the line directly to the axle (after moving the mount point down the tab the level sensor was on) and capped both ends of the return line and plugged the valve by the master. I also changed the wheel cylinders for ones from an AMC Eagle (larger diameter) and I'll be adding an in-line adjustable pressure valve from Summit to stop lockup (also did the XJ double booster)
  7. Dakota is closer.
  8. Just an FYI, but I converted the internal slave bell to external by getting the proper arm and throwout bearing and where the pivot ball normally sits on the external slave bell there is a hole pre-made. I went to the parts store and got the universal pivot ball from the "Help!" rack, reamed the hole in the bell bigger and JB Welded the ball in the hole. That's how I put an HO bell in my '84 XJ 2 dr with a '94 YJ motor and EFI system.
  9. Later 2.8 motors (starting late '86) are internally balanced. If the motor has EFI, it's balanced and the "improved" version. (wider rod bearings, etc)
  10. No doubt it could be done, but WHY? The XJ seats 5 as is, to make the center front passanger comfortable, you would need to get rid of the center console, I would think. Posts here tell you how to use MJ bench seat mounting brackets for a change to bucket seats. So just do the reverse. Use bucket seat brakets from the XJ to mount the MJ bench seat. Would think you would want to move the XJ shifter to the column, if it is an automatic. For sake of the front center passanger. Baby seat in the middle. :rotf:
  11. I would read the bottle to make sure that's not for wet clutches.

  13. There is a clip for the cable to the shift indicator that has to come off (I'm doing that swap myself)
  14. Did you try just adding a clamp on ground to the edge of the tank?
  15. Put it in drive and do a lawn job!

    Jeep to VW

Just wait till the electric gremlins kick in!
  17. I already have 2 (had 5 but I rolled one and parted 2)
  18. After the second fill with Crisco, it didn't need anymore till the pilot seized up
  19. See if it's in the harness. All the 4 cyls have it
  20. That's why I did the corn oil/crisco cooking oil in instead of brake fluid
  21. maybe the bog was 1/2 frozen when they went onto it?

    Head joke

Yup. Radio equipment and nightvision goggles on too!
  23. Ground on the block to frame is good? (not the battery one)
  24. It takes about an hour if you don't need a new front seal. Belt and 1 bolt plus pulling the rad to access it. miteaswell do the waterpump while you're in there if you do the seal.
  25. When mine started leaking at the slave, since I was going to auto anyways, I filled it with cooking corn oil and got another year out of it.
