  1. It wasn't all the way installed when you put the motor/trans together then.
  2. If it's 4.0L, then it's AW4. The 2.5 came with AW4 or 904 (early years). The changeover to 23 spline was 8th month of '90 when HOs came out. Much later ('97?) the 23 spline changed pitch and are a problem when dealing with older 23 spline cases.
  3. I found one here with 3.07 in it but can't get the guy to sell it.
  4. Bit late, but run a can of injector cleaner through. Loosen up the joint between the cat and front pipe, put nuts between the 2 pipes for a spacer to see if the power comes back. Pull to the shoulder, shut it off, wait 15 minutes then try again. Renix resets everything on each restart, so it will adjust for altitude. (found that out going to Ouray)
  5. Any surface that is soft tends to sink in. I have a cracked skull (knocked my right eye out of socket) from doing this on concrete when the Duvall quake of '95 hit. Even sudden wind gusts can push things around more than you would think.
  6. in '02 I took my stock '86 with 2.5, ax-5, NP207 with 4.10 gears and 235/75/15 to Ouray and back with 3 adults, canopy and a load of spare parts, tools, camping gear (rolled over the scale at 6,000lbs with a nearly full tank of gas) and 3 spare tires (2 stacked on the spare holder underneath. We used them all!) Averaged 17 in the mountains and 22 on the flats. (had clutch slave troubles too) It liked 85 octane better than anything higher (LOST power with a tank of hi-test. WTF?)
  7. The Fram filter collapses internally and the material blocks the oil from getting out. My '91 E350 with a 460 in it almost had to get a new motor because of this. I got lucky and reverse flushed the oil gallery with ATF and my tire compressor with the filter off. The pile of CRAP that came from the filter that imploded plugged off the oil gallery and caused cam and crank scoring.
  8. If you lift it later and keep the 16", 255/85/16 is 33/10.50
  9. IAC needing adjustment?
  10. If it has the rubber insert, then shops won't touch it to cut it down.
  11. That EPA rating was for the 258 with T5
  12. Just a little nit, but do not EVER use this type of compression fitting on brake lines! Aside from being illegal, they are unsafe and panic stops cause them to blow apart plus vibes make them leak. ONLY use flared not compression fittings!
  13. Just rolled out of the garage yesterday. 727/NP229 in it and my XJ's old 8.25 axle going in, then my MJ will get finished
  14. Crazy crap on the highway always seems to happen around me on the highway (lots of crashes that I just seem to miss) When I'm late, traffic seems to part for me. If I leave early EVERYTHING gets in my way!
  15. I put my axle on axle stands (on flat ground) with a windup jack under the pinion then used a level under the old pads until the bubble was centered, then put the new pads on top the correct distance apart and welded them on. Old AC buzz box.
  16. Where in the world, Carmen Sandiego?
  17. You should've gone with a 4.3, so the V8 swap is easy afterwards. Chev S10 headers should work, but I haven't tried. Oh, make sure it's NOT a front wheel drive motor (I went through that with the one I had. Only 50K on the motor but it wouldn't fit the '86 I had)
  18. Houston, we have a problem! Unless someone swapped your trans, it will be an AX-15. If you look under the shifter boot there will be 4 or more bolts holding the shifter to the trans (more bolts means T 5 or something else) 3 bolts on a round collar is the infamous BA 10/5.

    What To Do?

I would go to the county and get the tax info which has payer addresses.
  21. :???: Do tell, do tell? Thicker oil and it didn't leak out after the second fill up. People don't seem to know the only fluid to be used in the early master/slaves is Castrol GTLMA because the other brands eat the seals.
  22. It's the Jersey Devil
  23. Since I was swapping to auto anyways, I did the fill with Crisco trick on mine and got another year before the pilot bearing seized to the trans input shaft!
  24. The bolts holding my lower control arm to the body came loose on the right making that kind of noise.
  25. So the guy I bought them from did lie!
