I almost didn't see it in the pics and thought it was just pics of the landscape. Only then did I read it had a camouflage wrap. That thing must weigh an unbelievable amount, but looks like a fun toy. A question arises: what is that registered as- an International or a Jeep?

rear view mirror fell off... again
AMCJeepMJ replied to Blue88Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Its all about preparing the surface and the curing time of the adhesive. Make sure all old adhesive and residue has been completely removed from the glass [razor blade], and then go over it with rubbing alcohol to remove any oils or other chemicals. Do the same if possible to the mirror puck where it mounts to the glass. Also make sure temperatures aren't too extreme and allow plenty of time for the adhesive to cure before any drastic movement or adjustment of the mirror. I've never had to put a mirror on more than once after it has fallen or been pulled off. A local windshield repair place may have a suggestion for a strong adhesive or other techniques to use as well. -
When was the last time you drove a Wrangler or CJ?
AMCJeepMJ replied to Blue88Comanche's topic in The Pub
I haven't driven a Wrangler since about 1999, but we have one of these on the side of the house that needs a battery: Go Diego Go! -
Gave it the day off yesterday by driving the Buick to work, and then drove the Jeep to work today, narrowly avoiding a recently run-down deer carcass spread across both southbound lanes of the highway. Yuck.

Eesh- I wish I would have known it was worth so much when I pulled it from my 86 this summer.

Blahhhh I've been stuck with the task of bringing a wine to compliment Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow with relatives. Standard stuff- turkey, fixins, etc. I'm thinking for white a riesling or gewurztraminer, and for red a pinot noir or zinfandel [no white!]. Any thoughts on this? Any wine connoisseurs? I have no regional preference [Napa/Sonoma, Oregon/Washington, Chile, Australia, etc.].

IMO rectangular lights look best for bumper mount. If you have an aftermarket bumper with grill guard, then round.

I swapped a 90 XJ column into my 87 MJ, and it was pretty easy to do. I gained intermittent wipers and tilt, but it did not have a telescoping feature.

New aftermarket MJ Bumper!
AMCJeepMJ replied to Rymanrph's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So, I shot Nates4x4 an e-mail with a few questions about the MJ bumper last week, and received a response today: Thu, Nov 17, 2011 at 12:26 PM Hello, I found out about your MJ rear bumper through a thread on comancheclub.com. My questions about the MJ rear bumper are: 1) Are there any provisions for mounting a license plate and light to it? 2) What is the turn around time from time an order is placed for it until it is received? 3) Can it be made/produced with an additional 2" in overall width to protect the entire rear of the truck? 4) Are the tie-ins for a long bed or short bed model, or does it not matter? I look forward to your reply. Best regards, Jeff His reply: Mon, Nov 21, 2011 at 12:18 PM Jeff, This was prototyped on a Long Box, I have done research, but not test-fitted on a short box. I have emailed a picture of the mounting bracket separately, if you would like to compare to your frame rails. Turnaround time is 1 week until shipping. Shipping is 1-5 business days depending on your location. There are no currently provisions for a license plate and light, however, I would be happy to accommodate this at no extra charge. One way to do it would be self-drilling screws to screw the plate and aftermarket light to the bumper, or we could fabricate a bracket for you to hold the plate and light. 2" Extra width is no problem. No charge for this. Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Nate Note: there was no pic attachment, but can just refer to their website if necessary. Thoughts or comments? -
Put in a 3rd bag of sand in the bed, replaced wiper blades, tried the cassette player for the first time in 4 years- it still works!

Make sure what you're intending to do is legal in your neck of the woods. My thoughts would be that a Lund with strobes would be distracting, as it would directly flash onto your hood, as opposed to a roof-mounted [or headache rack] setup where the roof itself deflects the light [magnetic strobe or bolted light bar]. Also, if you take a good close look at your local constabulatory Impala, Charger, or Crown Vic, you will notice that the strobe lights are separate lights from the actual brake or turn signal bulbs, usually with a secondary hole in the back of the lens for bulb socket fitment.

Remove the track bar and inspect where it meets the body. If its out of round, then there's your problem.

Make sure its really DW and not just tires out of balance.

Track bar.

Nope, didn't enjoy them one bit. j/k Nice job on the salvage... you got yourself a new toy and you saved it from becoming a washing machine.

I picked mine up from Morris 4by. I've ordered from them a few times and have no complaints.

I drove mine in the snow today and will be hauling a patio set this afternoon... in the snow.

New aftermarket MJ Bumper!
AMCJeepMJ replied to Rymanrph's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
As a bonus, their front page says all orders ship for $.99 in the continental US. For light trailering duty, I think I would go for the hitch sans the d-ring mounts to afford a place to put a license plate and its light. -
YES the AMC Jeep sticker is full on rockin'. Point us in the direction where to get one?

I did 3/4 pallet of sod this spring, and had 15 rutted highway miles. It was swaying bad on the tired factory 2WD suspension setup. Ended up taking the back roads to keep it under 35 since it made me more than just a little nervous. Sod sucks to load and unload, and even more so when a canopy is on the bed.

Heater Core Replacement
AMCJeepMJ replied to dragonsfyr's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My GM H-body [LeSabre] requires the entire dash to be pulled to change a heater core. I took a look at one in the local salvage yard to see what it'll take to do it and its a major PITA. It is currently being used as a summer car [it has ice-cold air conditioning] and remains in the garage from September to May. -
I hope the $1500 was for the entire warehouse full of scrap and broken fiberglass.

Transmission output shaft bushing? If its worn it'll cause the driveshaft to wobble [like mine at 55+].
