Heater Core Replacement
dragonsfyr replied to dragonsfyr's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That was an adventure in swearing..........Keman pulled most of the dash while I was getting the seats out (this was on Tuesday) then it started raining.....get the pop-up over the truck (more swearing) the instructions above were sort of accurate (I needed 7mm, 11mm, 5/16th wrenches) There were 5 nuts to remove from the outside of the firewall not 4 (two of which the studs came out with the nut, weeeeee). The heater core was NASTY as well as covered in oil. New heater core went in with new weather stripping and the swearing commenced on the re-installation of the dash, when it came time to put the instrument cluster back in we found out the speedometer cable was broken. Wednesday; Got new speedometer cable, installed, swore a lot while getting the rest of the dash back in.........it is now back in the seats are re-installed and I have HEAT.......YEAH -
Heater Core Replacement
dragonsfyr replied to dragonsfyr's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My aversion to pulling the dash has to do with the last time we had the dash out (that was to replace the wiring harness). My radio now blinks with my turn signals......... hmm (I have a little brother who is a ASE certified and he is the one that did it). SO pull the dash it is :wrench: :( . I should be able to get to that this weekend between homework, housework, work, kids appointments, and if it's nice I'm going for a motorcycle ride :clapping: . -
Heater Core Replacement
dragonsfyr replied to dragonsfyr's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks for the input ....will try this later today. -
Alrighty Then; My baby (Ghostie '88 Comanche)decided to dump the contents of her heater core on the floor. We have the new core. The question I have is........Wait for it.......Can the heater core be replaced without removing the dash. The reason I ask is that I had a ford once that said you had to remove the dash to replace the heater core and (I did it without removing the dash), also had a Chevy and a Dodge that I performed the same manual labor on (I hate removing the dash of any vehicle). If it can't be done ....OK but if it can could I get an explanation of how (right now I can't find my Chilton's and it is getting kind of cold outside). I do not have AC. I already upgraded the cooling system to Open (yeah CSF Heavy Duty 3-core radiators are the BOMB I have a second one waiting to go into the '89 Cherokee). I did use search and did not get any results that answered my question. So hopefully someone will have "all the right answers" :wrench: and I can get some heat back in my baby before it gets too cold and I end up riding the Motorcycle anyway.

How do I detach a bench seat from floor brackets?
dragonsfyr replied to MJRemi's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
We used a sawzall to remove the brackets so we could mount them on my bucket seats. -
Just Empty Every Pocket ;) have faith it will all work out, just think by the time your done you will almost have a new truck   Heh.....I've already done that with the XJ and she isn't even a realiable DD (front end messed up , rear making "popcorn sounds") you get the idea........I have emptied every pocket several times on my Jeeps but I wouldn't trade them for ANYTHING else (except maybe a UniMog).
-
Had the same problem with my first '89 XJ (did the same conversion on the brakes).....never did fix the problem just knew it took longer to stop than it should...... I know no help from me. Sorry.
-
Especially not the way I drive...........Lets see I finished off the head gasket less than a month after I purchased the truck.....since then it's been clutch master, radiator, water pump, now clutch slave.......I will start looking for the other tranny......
-
well I have all the reciepts from all the previous owners (I'm the 4th) and the transmission has never been touched (other than fluid changes)
-
so I need to call the dodge dealer for the part? and hope it isn't higher priced than schucks? as well as deal with thier stinking (poor at times) customer service when dealing with non-garage owners............oooops was that my out loud voice?
-
I guess I should put that in my sig......I forget these things sometimes :brows: Ghostie has a 4.0L I am unsure of the make or model of the transmission other than it is a 5 speed (obviously manual since I am fixing clutch issues  )
-
OK so we fixed the clutch master problem (and the wiring problem that stemmed from the leak) now the slave is leaking........we have also replaced the radiator (high flow 3 row core open system conversion) and the water pump. Schmucks wants $150 and a week or more wait to special order the clutch slave.......anyplace I can get one cheaper? I don't have time to cruise junk yards (they aren't open when I'm awake anyway). I guess my tech question is: when does the money pit end and I can have my reliable DD?????????????
