  1. I didn't keep good notes on this one, I believe this was the Springfield MO Pick-n-Pull in Nov 2015.

  6. Found this 89 in the summer of 2015. I don't have good notes, but I think this was at a yard in Toledo.

  9. That might be someone else? I have a clutch master cylinder, but no pedals/pedal hangers.
  10. Dang, recently saw an 86 XJ. I'll keep an eye out.
  11. Thanks. These compressors aren't cheap, especially the ARBs. I'm not a fan of mounting them where they are constantly exposed to the environment. I've seen JKUs with them mounted in the rear cargo area. There are also mounts for under the hood, but that seems like a bad place to me. I've read on a couple forums that the underhood heat can lead to premature failure, and phone calls to ARB got responses to avoid it if possible, and extend the compressor air intake if it is mounted underhood, to get cooler air. I'm a fan of a permanently mounted system in my off road rig, but another option is the portable option ARB (maybe others?) offers. I have this one and use it in my tow rig when I'm not pulling the CJ on the trailer. https://www.amazon.com/ARB-CKMP12-Performance-Portable-Compressor/dp/B004P9A35E/ref=asc_df_B004P9A35E/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312061943738&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=1738591818904421315&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9023661&hvtargid=pla-490738717419&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=62469739336&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=312061943738&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=1738591818904421315&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9023661&hvtargid=pla-490738717419
  12. XJs/MJs have a dash light that illuminates the green ring around the cigarette lighter. Normal, if the dash lights are on. If they are not on, something weird is going on. Or as Oldmancomanche said, maybe your lighter is jammed in and heating up all the time, which sounds like a recipe for disaster- I'd check that asap.
  13. Not for an MJ, but I mounted the ARB dual compressor beneath the driver seat of my CJ. Made an aluminum mounting plate that is sandwiched between the seat base and the sliders. The compressor is mounted on the bottom of the plate, "hanging" down. A key mounting concern is to run adequate wiring. I have dual 8ga leads straight from the battery, one for each motor. The dual ARB is a beast, it filled a 5gal tank from 0 to 150psi in 4min 12sec. Then I upgraded my grounds, and it dropped to 2min 21sec. Later I switched to a 2.5g tank and a 120psi cutoff switch, and it fills in 1min 8sec.
  14. To clarify what jdog is saying, the vertical tab circled in red is spring loaded. Use a small thin flat blade screw driver, or similar tool, to depress the tab, then pull out the lock cylinder.
  15. I was in a hurry, and still turning the idea over in my head as I went into the yard. I did an online search before posting this and didn't come up with anything. Yes, the paint marker annoys the heck out of me. It's gotten to the point where I just tell them not to mark anything. I had a younger guy get adamant about it, but the other guys there straightened him out when I offered to walk away. Well good to know. The guy at the counter and I have talked before, and he remembered me. At one point he asked for the vin numbers, but we got sidetracked in our conversation and he never asked for them again before completing the sale. I just looked back at the receipt from my previous trip, and see that they got me on the warranty scam. So I have a warranty on a pair of wiper arms and a pulley. Great.
  16. That would make sense to an extent, but the sign mentioned a new law.
  17. So I went to the LKQ in St Louis yesterday. There was a sign as you come in the door, stating that any parts sold must have the VIN number of the car it came from at the checkout. Wish I took a picture as I believe it stated this was a new federal law. The sign suggested taking a picture of the sticker that the yard places on each vehicle. Has anyone heard of this? I am curious what the purpose of the law is. Also, they tried to add on warranties to each part I bought, at an additional cost, without telling me. This is the second time I have seen this, it happened to me at a yard in Oklahoma, and I didn't catch it at the checkout. While a warranty might make sense for some people, on some parts, it doesn't for me. I mean, an extended warranty on a brake pedal?? I really find this a deceptive practice. Just passing this along. Curious if anyone else has experienced it, or can shed light on the new rule.

    ouch...

Glad you are ok. This year has been notable so far in that I've been stung by wasps 3 times. Once on my head at a junkyard. Then a month later, on my right ear at home, and then the next day on the arm at another junkyard. The one on my arm swelled a little and was noticeable for 3 days.
  19. Both rear quarters are crunched, but it didn't look eaten up by rust. Couldn't get a look at the bed floor. WJN 15" Aluminum wheels. Would those have been Turbines? Or 5 spokes? It's wearing a full set of the steels.
  20. In the Pick n Pull on Truman Road, Kansas City 19 July 2021. Pioneer, 4.0, auto, column shift, short bed, 2wd, bench seat
  21. I wonder if a battery bolt wrench would work. They are 5/16" and 6 point. Don't know if they are too wide to fit on the bolt without interfering with the yoke though. https://www.amazon.com/OTC-4615-Long-Side-Terminal-Battery/dp/B000IHNXHM
  22. I remember trying to fix the one in my 1989 XJ Wagoneer. I ended up throwing it away. I understand wanting to keep something original, but a better substitute are the reel lights that were available in Chevy trucks and SUVs late 80s-90s.
  23. IT'S A RED CAR RUDY! Hahaha one of my all time favorite movie quotes. Thank goodness for yellow primer. Hatari! has some great early CJ5 scenes. And it was the inspiration for the "dinosaur catcher vehicles" in The Lost World (Jurassic Park II). I can't be the only one who felt it right in my heart when Walt offered to let Thao take his car on a date in Gran Torino. Karate Kid I'm a big fan of Stephen King stories. Besides the obvious Christine, there is also a short story Dolan's Cadillac, which became a film. Also one of my favorite short stories, Mrs. Todd's Shortcut, which I'd like to see make it to the screen. I liked "Drive" I also like that absolutely no one has mentioned F&F.
  24. Haha, possibly. I'd make a phone call, get a ride home, and hook up the car trailer to the Silverado. Assuming I wasn't on a MJ cross country road trip!
  25. I'll offer a course of action. I see Comanche off-road builds all over the FB. Most swap the rear axle to something stronger (8.8, one ton). There must be original MJ D35s out there. Buy a left over MJ D35. Put a good Detroit Trutrac gear driven limited slip diff in it. 3.55 gearing is pretty common, if that's what you want, and that is what it has, find a ring and pinion guy who will take a shot at reusing the gears. You are out the cost of the axle, shipping, a Trutrac, installation/ring&pinion setup, and misc (brakes, u-bolts, new u-joint maybe). Now you have a bolt in axle, the right width, with limited slip that uses factory brake parts. Save your old axle as a backup if the new one explodes. The downside is you are still throwing money at a D35. That's a gamble, but for a mostly or all street driven truck on a budget, it's worth a shot. If it explodes, you have a backup axle and a cool story. I sold an extra MJ D35 for $100 a couple years ago. Complete drum to drum. EDIT: it was missing the brake guts, and had 3.07 gears.
