So the truck I just bought was making a squealing noise, I was thinking it may have been the water pump... actually after a good hour long drive the noise pretty much went away... So I took off the serp belt today and turned the different pulleys/idler/etc.... long story short is I think I need a new harmonic balancer. Just looking for a second opinion. The back of it has rub marks. I hope it's not too bad, I hope it didn't cut into the cover too badly. I just got it so I have no idea how long it's been like this. Any specific recommendations on replacement part? I searched, a few guys had problems with Dorman, but overall almost any brand seems to be good. I've also read that this is a good time to do the crank seal on the timing cover... I only want to do this job once, any other advice?

Is This Right? Stuff Not Connected...
91Pioneer replied to 91Pioneer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks cruiser, I was looking under the hood, I found the line going to the vacuum ball but it was connected to other stuff. It seems odd the blue line would just hang out there and do nothing but I believe you :-) I also looked under the dash and I can see where the blend door cable has popped off the clip thing. So that'll be an easy fix. Thanks. -
Is This Right? Stuff Not Connected...
91Pioneer replied to 91Pioneer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The truck did not come with A/C. I can select vent/bilevel/etc. fine but the output temp does not change. Thanks. #1 that hose that should connect the blue line to the vacuum ball, is it supposed to be blue also? -
Trying to figure out my first MJ here folks. Let me know what you think of these things... should they be connected to something? #1 - blue vacuum line goes nowhere, it's by the firewall under the coolant pressure tank: I don't know if it's related but I have heat only (no A/C) and the temperature selector does not change the actual temp, it's always hot. #2 brown 2-wire connector over kind of beside the master cylinder: #3 a single red wire on the passenger side of the engine bay, lots of length to it Thanks.

OK folks well I'm finally a Comanche owner. I picked up a pretty clean '88 short box. You can see my "Going to look at an 88" thread here: http://comancheclub.com/topic/41721-going-to-look-at-an-88/ Here's a quick low-down on the truck... 4.0L 4x4 5-speed (BA-10). It has 235,000 km (146,000 miles). Silver on the outside, not factory paint but is pretty close to factory color, blue interior. No options really, no air conditioning, no cruise. It has tilt, and a sliding rear window, that's about it. The good: - Very little rust compared to most around here, one "ding" that's it - Has full gauges - It always starts, the guy told me it starts after 5-6 tries, nope every time, just let 'er crank for the 5 seconds or so it needs (I don't think he let it crank long enough) - Recent full safety inspection - Floor boards not totally full of holes LOL The bad: - Previous total loss vehicle (sideswiped but mostly fixed) - So some body damage needs to be fixed (front fender, door crease/dent) - Heater temp control doesn't change the temp, it's always hot - A bunch of rust spots, but all minor and repairable - Used to have a remote starter so there are some cut wires under the dash I don't have all my plans in place on what I want to do to the truck, but first up will be maintenance type stuff: - cruisers's renix tips (grounds, wiring, cps, etc.) - replace valve cover gasket - fix squealing noise from engine (belt/pulley area) - replace ignition cylinder lock (can start without a key right now) Long term I may even repaint the truck or swap out a grey interior. Or maybe an AX15 & NP242. I'm not in a rush to do that stuff though. Pics below.

Removing Door Panels
91Pioneer replied to Hillcountrymac's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That video is not very good. Doesn't show how to remove the two rods, doesn't show the back of the window crank handle, doesn't use the proper tool to remove the panel. Oh well the dude tried I guess. -
FYI it's called 4x2, not 2x4. 2x4 means you're talking about lumber LOL

Driveway Ornament To Daily Driver: 7 Years!

Love the truck! And I like all the details, keep the pics and details coming. -
I like it, the "Tremor", it's a one year only deal http://www.fordf150.net/2014/

Hey gogmorgo, did you do the wiring harness upgrade too? If so, did you retain DRLs?

Living in Canada I have to say RockAuto rarely is a good deal after shipping. Shipping stuff here can be outrageous for smaller/cheaper items but sometimes it is cheaper to order from them. Personally I've never ordered from them but I've used them to shop and compare pricing (including shipping), along with availability.

I don't know where you heard that, but definitely no.

Cleaning Products For Engine Bay
91Pioneer replied to 13 Legion's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I would not risk it by using a pressure washer. Use a good degreaser (I used Simple Green), then use a low pressure from your garden hose and a brush. Go to the dollar store, pick up a cheap brush for like cleaning dishes with a handle, it'll help you clean it and then you can toss it when you're done. High pressure washer can work but it's also alot easier to get water into places water isn't supposed to get into. -

That truck would be worth at least three times what he's asking if it was up in these parts.

Built A New "stock" Bumper....
91Pioneer replied to krustyballer16's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
Nice! Maybe you should start selling a slightly different unit, a stocker where you would attach the end caps. That would keep cost and labor time down, and I bet they'd sell. If you used a flat black paint the imperfections would be less noticeable, that kind of looks glossy or semi-gloss. Can you use any kind of high build primer before powdercoating I wonder? -
Lights on the bottom for sure. They integrate nicely there. When on top they just totally look out of place.

Does that 50" light bar have some wicked bad glare off the white hood or is it not too bad?

Have ya got any more daytime photos of the new fusion orange rig?
-
PACIFIER, those tail lights just look so wrong, but the paint color gave me a hard-on. OK not really but damn that color looks great on the MJ. You don't happen to know the paint code for it, or what the paint color is off of, do you? p.s. Cab vents on the hood...?!? Interesting...

Is There A Skype Group Or Irc?

This is one of the more active forums I'm on, I see no need for a chat. Use the shoutbox if you want, I never look at that either though.
